CENTRAL PHILIPPINE UNIVERSITY FEDERATION OF OVERSEAS

ALUMNI ASSOCIATIONS, INC.

PREAMBLE AND STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

“Bound by the Central Spirit, we, the Central Philippine University Federationof Overseas Alumni Associations, committed to building a global federation ofindividuals and groups of alumni; fostering cooperation, collaboration andcamaraderie among Federation members; providing the means by which themembers can exchange information, support one another and remain vitallylinked with the Alma Mater; and committed to assisting Central PhilippineUniversity attain and enhance its vision and mission.”

CPUFOAAIThe Central Philippine University Federation of Overseas Alumni Association, Inc. (hereafter called CPUFOAAI) “partners with CPU and its Mother Chapter, the CPUAAI, in working to strengthen the common bond in the attainment of CPU’s vision and mission,” which are:

VISION: “ A University committed to Exemplary Christian Education for Life (EXCEL) and responsive to the needs of the total person and the world.”

MISSION: “The mission of Central Philippine University is to carry out a program of spiritual, intellectual, moral, scientific, technological, and cultural training, and allied studies under influences which strengthen Christian faith, build up character and promote scholarship, research and community service.”

VISION STATEMENT:

“The CPUFOAAI bound together and empowered by the Central Spirit, is committed to building a global community of individuals and alumni groups; and alumni/ae, and to foster cooperation, collaboration and camaraderie among themselves; providing the means by which the members can exchange information, support one another and at the same time remain vitally linked with the alma mater; and committed in assisting Central Philippine University (CPU) attain and enhance its vision and mission.”

MISSION STATEMENT:

“The CPUFOAAI is a federation of individuals, groups, and alumni/aeassociations which dedicates its spiritual, moral, intellectual, and financial resources to increasing the capacity of CPU to fulfill its purpose of “spiritual, mental, moral, scientific, industrial, technical, cultural training, and allied studies for the youth, men and women, under influences which strengthen, Christian faith and build up character and promote scholarship and research.”

2. PRODUCED A“REFERRAL HANDOUT” from the

response to Survey/Questionnaire, which were sent to all the

Chapters and officers two times. It is hope that the

“referral handout” will help the Chapters prepare for their

members’ aging curb, meeting its members’ needs, retain

their current members; and at the same time reach out to

the younger generation and do recruitment.

3. TASK FORCE:Composed of various CPUFOAAI leaders. Worked on a proposal

to raise funds for CPU. On July 13, 2013, the Task Force concluded

that due to the CPUFOAAI organizational structure and its

volunteer leadership, it was next to impossible to have enough

volunteers to work on the project and meet the monthly remittance

quota/requirements, thus the proposal was not pursued

4. IMPLEMENTED THE GLOBAL REUNION HOSTING/

VETTING AND VOTING PROCESS OF CPUFPOAAI

OFFICERS.

5. “GLOBAL REUNION HANDBOOK (GRH)”:The Global Reunion Handbook Committee has produced the GRH.

Josie Dayao, Chairperson is circulating the draft of the GRH to

Chapters, officers and the membership for comments & more

suggestions. Then the GRH will be presented to the Board for

comments/suggestions & approval.

6. NOMINATION COMMITTEE:

Mandated by the ratified CBL, the nomination committee

produced a report on June 7, 2014. The report was approved by

the Executive Committee, whose action was also mandated by the

ratified CBL. The report included the 2014 nomination, election

and appeals procedures, which were used during the 2014

Global Reunion (GR).

December 31, 2012 - CPUAA - Calgary Chapter

October 15, 2013 - CPUAA - Thailand Chapter

October 19, 2013 - CPUAA of Central California

9. INDUCTION OF OFFICERS:January 11, 2014 - CPUFOAA President gave the message and

inducted the CPUAA SoCal Chapter officers during their 40th

Anniversary of the founding of the SoCal Chapter.

9. BUSINESS TRIP :June 22, 2013 -The President attended the CPUAA Norcalaa Chapter in SF Bay

Area and showed the members Dr. Ted C. Robles report and, discussed the

following 2010 Global Reunion residual issues: the 10% Embassy Suites hotel

rebate and the 10% Souvenir Program net profit that was due to the Federation.

The 3-years Chapter dues and the wisdom of having two Chapters in Northern

California to meet the needs of the members that have to drive 3-4 hours to attend

the Chapter meetings in either the Bay Area or the Central Valley. Before the end

of 2013, the Federation received all the funds that were discussed.

June 24, 2013 –The President attended the meeting of the CPUAA Norcalaa

Chapter members living in the California Central Valley (Sacramento, Modesto,

Merced, Stockton, Fresno and other places) and discussed the 10% hotel rebate,

the 10% Souvenir net profit due to the Federation, the 3-years Chapter dues and

the wisdom of having two Chapters in Northern California to meet the needs of

the members that have to drive 3-4 hours to attend the Chapter meetings in either

the Bay Area or the Central Valley.

The Central Valley members enthusiastically agreed to have their own Chapter

and not have to travel for 3-4 hours. By October the members created Central

Philippine University Alumni Association of Central California (CPUAACC) and

elected their officers.

July 7, 2013 – The President attended the CPUAA SoCal Chapter meeting.

Participated in the deliberation, gave a report and gave Dr. Robles the proceeds

from my June 1, 2013 fundraising.

September 20 - 21, 2013 – The President attended the Florida Chapter Steering

Committee meeting with Swan/Dolphin staff; and on the 21st attended the Chapter

meeting & discussed the global reunion preparation.

September 28, 2013 - The President met with the Boston Area Alumni, who are

now planning to form a Chapter.

October 5, 2013 - The President had a heart to heart dialogue with the Northeastern

Chapter, which resulted in the Chapter actively joining the CPUFOAAI.

January 11, 2014 – The President attended the CPUAA SoCal Chapter

40th Anniversary, was the keynote speaker and also inducted the officers.

as they quoted the CPUFOAAI postings.

Helped the Chair of the HS Centennial preparation/messaging.

Helped facilitate donations during the Haiyan Typhoon disaster.

Linked alumni with CPU, International Ministries & other groups.

Linked alumni with the preparation, reservations, dissemination & other

activities of the 8th CPU Global Reunion information.

12. DONATIONS:

CPUAA Norcalaa Chapter - donated (to CPUFOAAI) the 10% rebate

from 6th CPU Global Reunion hotel lodging from the Embassy Suite

Hotel in July 2010.

CPUAA Norcalaa Chapter - donated (to CPUFOAAI) 10% from its

proceeds of the 6th CPU Global Reunion Souvenir Program income in

July 2010.

CPUFOAAI donated $2,000 (2013 - $1,000 & 2014- $1,000) towards the

Alumni Homecoming.

CPUFOAAI donated $1,000 towards the Kindergarten building repair

fundraising and helped with fundraising linkage with Chapters,

individuals and CPU.

CPUFOAAI donated $3,000 towards the Typhoon Haiyan fundraising.

13. FUNDRAISING:a. May R. Vail Lee’s Fundraising for Work Student-God’s Grace Program

Endowment Fund (WSGGPEF) = $2,932.10

14. CHAPTER DUES:a. 2013 –Federation Dues collected = $1, 700 from seven (7)

active Chapters (BC-WA. Calgary, Florida, Greater Toronto Area,

Montreal, Northern California, North Texas and Southern California).

b. 2014 - Federation Dues collected = $1,150 from 15 active

Chapters (BC-WA, Calgary, Central Calif., Florida, Greater Toronto

Area, KSA, Las Vegas, Michigan, Midwest, Montreal, Norcalaa,

Northeast, North TX, So Cal & So TX) .

15. INDIVIDUAL DUES: = $360 from 27 new

members.

16. GLOBAL REUNIONS:September, 2012 - Successful - 7th CPU Global Reunion in Sidney, Australia; and

election and induction of officers.

2014 - 8TH CPU Global Reunion –was hosted by the CPUAA Florida, Inc.

(CPUAAFI) in Orlando, Florida on July 24-27, 2014. CPUAAFI is a State of Florida

and also a Federal non-profit organization. The CPUAAFI members worked so

hard to deliver a very successful Global Reunion (GR) that alumni immensely

enjoyed. Election and induction of officers were also held .There are some

recommendations that future CPUFOAAI leadership will have to implement.

17. RECOMMENDATIONS:a. Recommending the next leadership develop a fundraising strategy for

CPUFOAAI.

b. Recommending that Federation Leadership review, clarify, and revise, as

needed, the relationship between the Federation and the Chapter hosting the

Global Reunion, including structure, process, and criteria for “ownership” of

the Global Reunion Queen Fund Raising Event.

c. Recommending reevaluation of the existing CPUFOAAI regions due to the lack

of Chapters or at least alumni living in the area and to develop and implement a

plan to restructure the leadership to reflect attention to issues of sustainability,

relevance, equitable representation, etc. Possibly taking into consideration the

population density and driving distances (i.e., Northeast, & DC).

d. Recommending 2nd Vice President position be eliminated and Regional Vice

President (RVP) report directly to the 1st Vice President (VP). Current set up creates

a top-heavy organization. Where representation might be needed in the future, a

Regional VP (RVP) positions should be created rather than a 2nd VP.

e. Recommending the development and implementation of a realistic and sustainable

strategic plan that includes systematic and timely information sharing to Federation

and Chapter leaderships with regard to appropriate roles, responsibilities, and

obligations of federation membership to the Federation, as well as a federation

program for building viable, sustainable, and welcoming communities of alumni/ae

who are willing to be involved in the life and work of the Federation.

f. Recommending that the autonomy of the Chapter has to be looked at in relation

to officers occupying or holding two positions in the Federation, which not only

creates conflict of interest but also deprives the chance for other alumni leaders

to participate in the Federation representation, and make a difference.

g. Recommending concerted efforts to help revive inactive Chapters.

h. Recommending the development and implementation of a realistic, sustainable,

affirming recruitment plan for reaching alumni/ae to ensure that they are linked to

the Federation, chapter, or Alma Mater.

i. Recommending sending out a survey, which focus on building a community

with mutual respect. It should consult alums, both members and not, about

what they want, establishing credibility and integrity of the leadership, and,

developing a program that alumni would want to be a part of.

j. Recommending a real & crucial “campaign” to identify alums and make contact

with them. The Federation programs should create programs that allow for

different kinds of “contributions” and linkages to the organization and to CPU.

k. Recommending that the Federation should avoid just being seen or just holding

up “fund raising,” or be seen as the transmission belt of the university or the

mother alumni.

l. Recommending the review, clarification, and revision as appropriate, of the CBL

in order to develop a realistic, sustainable, and acceptable statutory structure

and process for the governance of the Federation. This should include attention

to such issues as the statutory relationship between the Federation and its

member chapters, the Federation to the “mother alumni/ae association,” the

University, and its various publics and constituencies.
