Spring is here and only

two months left of

school with a lot yet to

be accomplished.

Grades 3-6 will be

taking the Smarter Bal-

anced tests starting

April 15. Some have

been taking some prac-

tice tests to help them

prepare.

Please review the ma-

terial about testing in

last month’s newsletter

and page 11 of this

newsletter. It is very

important for students

taking the test to get

good sleep and a good

breakfast. 3rd graders

have not taken a

standardized test and

it will be a first for them

with the Smarter Bal-

anced test. This is just

one way to look at what

your son/daughter has

learned. We just ask

that students do their

best and

have pride in that. Most

students like to know

how they did and hope-

fully, we will get results

sometime this summer.

There still is the possi-

bility of cooler weather

during April, so please

have your student pre-

pared with a jacket or

coat if necessary. They

can always take off the

coat as it warms up dur-

ing the day.

We are planning for

Track and Field day. It

will be May 22nd for

your planning purposes.

Again, this year Mr.

Bosn will be planning

the day, awards at 9:00

at the Armory and field

day will start a little af-

ter noon.

Date May 22nd.

We are still looking for

Parents to help and a

leader for our parent

group. The group is in

need of a leader to act

as an organizer and call

meetings. We have a num-

ber of parents who are al-

ways available to help.

Please call the school if

interested.

Please talk to your child

about school intruders.

Our teachers have been

talking to their students

and we do plan on some

practices later this month

and pray we never have to

really do them.

**Parents, don’t forget-

vaccination requirements

for 6th graders.

Please continue to bring in

Box-Tops it is really easy

and helps. Each year it

allows the student council

to help teachers, buy extra

balls etc…..

TIGER TALES

Knight for a Princess Father-Daughter (or other male attendant) Dance on

April 14th - Tickets are available in the Elementary office. $15 per couple, $5

per additional child. Checks can be written to HHS Student Council. There

are no dress requirements for this event. Disney Princess Meet and

greets, Princess photo booth, dancing and snacks are included.

What a winter! Students and teachers having fun with all the snow at recess.

Tiger Tales April 2019 Music Dates

Saturday, April 27, 2019 – South Dakota Bandmasters Grades 5 – 8 Instrumental Solo

and Ensemble Contest at Salem runs from 8:00 a.m. until @ 3:30 p.m. All 5th & 6th grade

band students are will be performing their instrumental solos in Salem and receive a rat-

ing from the judge. All parents need to provide transportation for their students. Please,

carpool if necessary. The students need to be there for their own solo. I encourage the

students and parents to stay and listen to other students perform, if time allows. We

usually receive the schedule 1 week prior to the contest. A schedule will be sent home

with all band students as soon as it’s received.

Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. – Howard Grades 7 – 12 Spring Music Concert and

Awards at the Howard High School gym.

The Kindergarten and 2nd grade classes enjoyed a day at the Children's Museum in Brook-ings for their field trip. THANK YOU to all our chaperones who came along to help out. It was a fun day of exploration and imagination!

VACCINATION REQUIREMENTS

South Dakota requires all 6th grade students

to get:

• One dose of Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis (Tdap)

vaccine on or after the 11th birthday

• One dose of Meningococcal (MCV4) vaccine on or

after the 11th birthday

For more information, talk with your family physician or your

local community health nurse about these and other

vaccinations your preteen should receive.
