Greetings, St. Peter School families, This issue of Tiger Tales is filled with lots of great information about im- portant and exciting upcoming events here at St. Peters. One of the many ad- vantages of belonging to a Catholic school is the community that we are all invited into as students, families, faculty and staff. We have been focusing on that community in a variety of ways this past month as we have discussed how we can take care of ourselves and one another, how we can serve at Mass and in our community, and how we can treat one another with kindness and com- passion to ensure our community is one filled with love and support. Another way you and your family can participate in our community is by attending some of the many events we have here on campus. Volleyball season is in full swing, EZs nights happen monthly, and all family and friends are invited to celebrate the Eucharist with us each Friday. Our students love seeing their families at these events and it is a great way to meet other parents, get to know faculty and staff members, and to see what is happening at school. In addition, we are working very hard to plan two of the biggest events of the year – PTCs Halloween Carnival and the St. Peter School and Parish Winter Gala. Please mark your calendar and plan to attend both of these very important events! There are many ways you can support the Halloween carnival by sending needed items to school, helping your student sell raffle tickets, or volunteering on the day of the event. And we have just begun offer- ing tickets to this years Winter Gala at the special parent rate of $100 per ticket (limit 2 per family). No need to worry about making plans for Valen- tines Day this year. Grab your spouse, relative, neighbor, or friend and join us at the UIW Rosenberg Skyroom for the biggest party of the year. If you have items to offer for our silent or live auction, please let us know! Thank you to each of you for being a part of our community. God bless, Gabriel Duarte

Greetings, St. Peter School families, This issue of Tiger Tales is filled with lots of great information about im-portant and exciting upcoming events here at St. Peter’s. Eric Garza - Class of 2008

September’s Alumni Spotlight is focused on a

real hero - Baldemar Eric Garza III. Eric is an

Emergency Room nurse. He recently donated

one of his kidneys to his father, Baldemar II.

Eric continued with the Brainpower Network

graduating from St. Anthony’s Catholic High

School. He is still good friends with many of

the students who he went to school with at

St. Peter’s and in high school.

When asked about his job, Eric shared, “I work as an ER

nurse so my jobs kind of all over the place, you never know

what’s going to walk through those doors or what the ambu-

lance is bringing us. Some days it can be slow with not so

critical patients and other days it

can be nothing

but patients

who are fighting

just to live, most

days are kind of

a good mix of

both.”

Page 5: Tiger Tales Newsletter Tales... · Page 3 Tiger Tales Newsletter . Page 4 Tiger Tales Newsletter Eric Garza - Class of 2008 September’s Alumni Spotlight is focused on a real hero

Page 5 Tiger Tales Newsletter

Eric went on to say, “As a nurse we’re

kind of on the frontlines at the bedside

taking care of the people who come in-

to the ER and I just try and make them

as comfortable as possible and let them

know they’re in good hands while

providing the best care possible. I do a

lot of educating with patients just to

make sure they’re well informed and that way they can hope-

fully avoid future hospital visits.”

Eric works for the Methodist health system and really likes

their mission statement of “Serving humanity to honor God”

by providing exceptional and cost effective, accessible care to

all,” because that is what they aim to do every day with every

patient. He says, “ We work for the patients really, not for

the hospital. It’s a tough job but I love it.”

“EZ” MONEY! Thanks to all of our families who have attended

our EZ’s nights and placed your receipts in the

“green house.” EZ’s gives us a portion of what we

spend each month, and it is a great way spend

time with our community. Here are the totals we

received for the last two months:

July 2019 — $118

August 2019 — $274

These funds are great extra help and the last few

months helped us cover the cost of playground

mulch! Thanks to all for your support!

TOLERANCE, INTEGRITY, GENEROSITY, EMPATHY, RESPONSIBILITY

ST. PETER PRAYER St. Peter, Prince of the Apostles, you were given the keys to the king-dom of heaven. As the first pope, guide us to what is always true and

good. Blessed Apostle St. Peter, whose name means “rock,” Jesus chose you to build his Church. Help me build tolerance, integrity, generosity, empathy, and responsibility within my community of

faith. St. Peter, pray for us!
