Course Description

Acute coronary syndrome and heart failure is the most prevalence cardiovascular disease in Indonesia, therefore the capability of the medical doctores should be improved.

This module is designed to promote the understanding of concept, mechanism, pathophysiology of pain, and the factors that influence pain. Students will also learn about the pharmacological and non-pharmacological pain management.

Technique and Communication in Nutrition counseling is beneficial for any medical doctor to be applied in their working place and private practice, because nutritional problems in clinical and community setting is still highly prevalent and it is not yet well managed.

Knowledge in clinical microbiology is important for a medical doctor in the management of infection problems. Objectives of this module is to improve students capability in understanding steps in clinical microbiology examinations (pre-analytic, analytic and post-analytic) and its application in the management of infectious disease. This module include specimen selection and handling, methods in the detection of bacteria, fungi and viruses, and interpretation of the results. Diagnostic methods that will be learned include microscopy examination, culture, serology, PCR, and drug sensitivity tests. We also hope that this modul can improve students' insights in the recent developments of microbiology diagnostic techniques.

The teaching of teamwork and collaboration among healthcare professionals concepts has not yet become a part of medical schools’ curriculum, although a doctor is expected to collaborate in providing good healthcare services. Therefore an Interprofessional Education module is developed, as a part of medical education discipline, for students who have the interest for medical education field. This module is one of many elective modules, with 4 credits and the aim to equip students with the ability to explain the concepts of interprofessional education and develop an appropriate instructional design or teaching plan. Active teaching and learning methods are used, which include group discussion, fieldwork and presentation.

In Competence Based Curriculum that has been implemented since 2005, students’ competence in obstetric and gynaecology has been established according to Indonesian Medical Doctor Competence Standard (Indonesian Medical Council). The aim of this module is to satisfy students’ interest in specific obstetric and gynaecology cases and also to increase students’ understanding on obstetric and gynaecology. By following the surgery elective module, students are expected to enhance the knowledge and the experience and know the principles of case management in the field of surgery in general; as well as learn a variety of medical problems that are often found in Indonesia who need surgery. Module elective surgery can be followed in 8 divisions under the Department of Surgery Faculty of medicine / RSCM ie plastic surgery, surgery Digestive, orthopedics and traumatology, urology, surgical oncology, vascular surgery, pediatric surgery and thoracic and cardiovascular surgery.

Fine needle aspiration biopy (FNAB) is a minimally invasive procedure to get sample for further examination from lump in human body, on the surface or internal organ. FNAB procedure is more preferable because it is relatively easy to do, economic, with simple preparation (do not need special place), not creating fear for the patient, with faster result.Accurate FNAB result will be obtained if the procedure is done adequately and representatively, to that can be achieved by training. FNAB procedure can be done by well-trained general practitioner, besides pathology anatomic doctor or other specialist. As the most important related thing to health care, general practitioner should be completed with ability to do proper FNAB on superficial lesion.Application of FNAB on superficial lesion, especially to thyroid, lymph node and breast is needed to provide fast and accurate diagnosis, leading to faster and more accurate maanagement.Changes of Lifestyle and environment contribute to the growing of cancer. This time, cancer is the most often death cause in developed and developing country, including Indonesia. We hope through early detection using FNAB, the death rate due to cancer can be lowered.

On daily practice, a doctor will meet some hard cases, or even life threatening cases. In managing such cases, a general practitioner is expected not only to be able to give basic life support, but also Advanced Life Support. Previous anesthesiology module has facilitated Advanced Life Support materials, but further practice and patient clerking will be a benefit for students to increase their ability. In this elective module, students will have chance to learn through discussion in classroom, simulation in skill lab and work in emergency department.Today's medical science and health care increasingly advanced and oriented to improving the quality of human life. One of the peaks of these advances is the field of intensive care or intensive care into the estuary of the integrated specialist expertise, the use of medical equipment is sophisticated and highest the quality of care.

In Indonesia, Faculty of Medicine is a leading institution in the field of intensive care. For more than two decades the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Faculty of medicine has to pursue this field and produce specialist graduates who take part in education, research and intensive care services. At present, the introduction of intensive care for medical students have been awarded in year IV, namely in the Module of Anesthesiology. However, in reality exposure in the intensive care module case is far from adequate, so for enthusiasts intensive care needs to be given a space and time in order to deepen the knowledge in this field. The module target is students’ competency to identify infectious disease as a publichealth problem, associated with lifestyle and culture of the local community. At theend of the module, we expect student will be able to assess the development ofinfectious problem in the community. The module will be done in remote TimorIsland, where lifestyle and culture are very different as we live in the city.

Children are still on developing; therefore they are very prone to be affected by common psychosocial stressors, such as bullying, violence and also inadequacy of parenting style. Children and adolescent who cannot adapt well will experience several mental health problems. These problems might interfere the child and family daily functioning and sometimes delaying to be identified.

The Early detection on child and adolescent mental health problem module try to help the medical students to identify and elaborate those issues. The goal is trying to train the medical students to do an early detection on child and adolescent mental health problems, analysing the problems and doing counselling as a primary intervention before refer them to the health facilities.
