Abstract. Because of the rapid proliferation of the Szekler Rabbit breed, it appears in increasingly number at rabbit shows (exhibitions) (in Romania; in the near future abroad also), the publication of the breed standard is a must in order to achieve a correct evaluation. In order to increase the event quality level, and for impartiality, the organizers often invite foreign judges for arbitration; therefore the standard publication in more languages is more than justified. To meet this requirement, the current breed standard is published in English, German, French, Romanian and Hungarian. The standard of the Szekler Rabbit was elaborated considering the Romanian (Standard 1991; 2005 vol. I & II; 2010), Hungarian (Holdas & Szendrő 2002), and German (European Standard 2003, 2012) Standard for Rabbit Breeds respectively (the American –ARBA- and British –BRC- standards are very different from that of European). Key Words: breed standard, Szekler Rabbit, Romanian rabbit breed, new rabbit bread, new strain, new infraspecfic taxon, biodiversity, sallander, Oryctolagus cuniculus. Auszug.

Kivonat. Mivel a Székely Nyúl állomány nagyon szaporán gyarapodik, egyre nagyobb létszámban szerepel a hazai kiállításokon (Romániában; a közeljövőben külföldön is), a fajtastandard közzétevése egy kizáró feltétele a fajta helyes elbírálása érdekében. A kiállítások színvonalának emelése céljábol, egyre gyakrabban fordul elő, hogy a szervezők más országokból is hívnak meg bírokat, ezért a fajtastandard több nyelven való publikálása annál indokoltabb. E célból, a jelenlegi fajtastandard Angol, Német, Francia, Román és Magyar nyleven kerül közlésre. A Székely Nyúl fajta standardja, a Romániai (Standard 1991; 2005 vol. I & II; 2010), Magyaroszági (Holdas & Szendrő 2002) ílletve az Német (Európai Standard 2010, 2012) Nyúlfajtastandardnak megfelelően kezeli a fajta leírását ílletve megítélését (bírálását), betarva az Európai szabványokat (az Amerikai –ARBA- és Britt –BRC- fajtastandard nagyon eltérő az Európaihoz képest). Kulcsszavak: fajtastandard, Székely Nyúl, romániai nyúlfajta, új nyúlfajta, biodiverzitás, szallander, Oryctolagus cuniculus.

Brief history of the origins. The founder of the Szekler Rabbit breed was a sallander buck born in 2010 in Sanmartin (Csíkszentmárton), Harghita County, Romania. Its ancestors were simple crossbreed rabbits originating from household farms; its father was a Thuringian-colored buck, and the mother a chinchilla colored female. That sallander colored buck was breed with black, yellow, and chinchilla colored crossbreed females respectively. Their descendants were inbred, obtaining a few sallander colored specimens, which later formed the basis of the breed (Botha et al 2015). During the years in order to improve the meat quality and dress-out percentage, some infusions (crossbreeding for one generation) were performed using Giant Lop, Californian, Black Hycole, and Large Chinchilla bucks respectively. At the same time a significant improvement in the breed's anatomy, as well as the hair quality was achieved.

Nowadays, the Szekler Rabbit is considered a rustic, resistant, meat type rabbit which is well adapted to the extensive rearing system, and also has a distinctive, unique, elegant phenotype and color as well. Genetic formula of the color pattern:

 European formula: achiachi bb CC DD gg - sallander achiachi bb cc DD gg - havanna-sallander  International formula: aa BB cchdcchd DD ee – sallander aa bb cchdcchd DD ee - havanna-sallander

The description and evaluation of the breed follows the European standard pattern, with 7 sections as it is displayed in Table 1.
