Come on a day trip to one of the nearby climbing sites to try your hand on some real rock! Outdoor recreation provides all climbing equipment including helmets, harnesses, shoes, ropes, belay devices, and carabiners. Be sure to pack your own lunch, snacks, and drinks.

Gulkana Glacier Day HikeAugust 11, 0700Fee: $20

Head to the Alaska Range and hike to the fantastic Gulkana Glacier. Nothing makes an Alaskan adventure complete like standing on these giant rivers of ice surrounded by jagged mountain peaks. Bring

a lunch and an extra pair of shoes (old sneakers are great!) to cross the river in. This trip is sure to be an amazing experience.

Women In The Wilderness Rock ClimbingAugust 4, 0900Fee: $10

Try rock climbing outdoors on this women only trip to the cliffs north of Fairbanks. Enjoy a day of fresh air and new challenges as we climb above a beautiful valley. No experience needed! Bring water, snacks, lunch and active clothing.Family Berry PickingAugust 5, 0900Fee: $5

One of the great things about living in Alaska is bountiful food nature provides. Head into the hills to collect berries and enjoy the outdoors before winter comes. Remember to bring a container to put your berries in!

Quartz Creek ATV OvernightAugust 11-12, 0800Fee: $150

Spend the weekend traveling and camping by ATV in the White Mountains! This adventurous trail leads us over high tundra passes and next to fantastic granite tors. Please bring breakfast and beverages for the trip as well as goggles, gloves, over the ankle boots and a pack to put it all in! Outdoor Recreation will provide the ATV’s, helmets, camping gear, water, lunches, dinners and transportation. An ATV Safety Course is required prior to the departure date. If you need equipment coordinate with the Outdoor Adventure staff at 361-4089/2652.

River drainage, a remote tributary of the Yukon River, where the tenacious Northern Pike lurks in its murky water. Fish over 40 inches are not uncommon. Camp in the very definition of Alaskan Wilderness and attempt to fish your way into the record books. You provide breakfast, fishing rod and reel, tackle, small cooler, bug dope, rain gear, sleeping bag and pad, current Alaska State fishing license. We provide transportation, tents, coolers with ice, lunch and evening meals.

Overnight Float TripAugust 25-26, 0800Fee: $50

Venture out onto one of Alaska’s countless rivers for a weekend of relaxing and floating fun. ORC will provide the transportation, food, and equipment needed for this trip. All you need is good clothing (NO COTTON!) and a desire for adventure. No previous paddling skill is required!

Stiles Creek ATV RunAugust 26, 0800Fee: $75

A one day ATV run to Stiles Creek in the Chena River State Recreation Area. Transportation, ATV and Helmet will be provided. Bring your lunch, snacks, drinks, gloves and daypack with bungee cord to strap to ATV. Over the ankle boots are required. Departs the ORC at 8:30 am. An ATV Safety Course is required prior to the departure date.

Valdez Silver SalmonAugust 31-September 2, 0800Fee: $275

An Alaska State Fishing License is required! These Silver Salmon are not only fun to catch but also make for some tasty eating. If you catch the largest fish of the day you could be the winner of the “Valdez Silver Salmon Derby” as long as

you have purchased a ticket prior to leaving the docks. Don’t forget your camera! We provide transportation there and back, campground and Charter. You will need to bring camping gear, food, refreshments and fishing license. Reservations must be made by August 17.

Upper Chena CanoeSept 8, 0800Fee: $20

Explore the Upper Chena River during Alaska’s brief fall! This will likely be the last chance to get out on the river before winter is upon us! Bring lunch, water and snacks for the float. Fall colors, berries and wildlife abound in this section of river!

Clearwater SilversSeptember 21, 22, 23, 24Boats depart the launch at 9 am.Location: The Clearwater River Boat Launch.Fee: Adults $40, Youth (15 and under), $20

An Alaska State Fishing License is required!The Clearwater River outside of Delta Junction is one of the clearest streams in the interior. By the middle of September the Coho runs come in strong and will continue into late October. The exact time of the run is not predictable, but generally occurs in mid to late September. Meet our boats at the Clearwater Boat Launch to begin this late season fishing adventure. Clearwater Lodge is available nearby for food and lodging at the customer’s expense.

Babysitter’s CourseAugust 9-10, 10-1400Youth Center, Bldg. 4109This course offers participants certification in American Heart Association CPR (infants, children and adults) and First Aid, and the 4-H Babysitter;s Course. Classes are open to adults and youth 13 and up. Successful completion of the course offers participants the option of being added to the CYSS Babysitter’s List.

Home Alone classAugust 23, 1800-2000Youth Center, Bldg. 4109-The Parent portion covers the installation home alone policy, how to determine if your child is ready to be alone, how to ensure the safest home alone experience for children, and what the children are covering in their classroom. Parents receive a workbook to assist in this process.-The student portion covers safety, family expectations and house rules, the policy on the installation, and some basic snack ideas. Each student receives an I'm Alone workbook to assist in preparing for being home alone and to keep all of their important information together.

Child Assessments August 6, 0900-1300 LFCAC, Bldg. 1044Bring in your children ages 0-5 and complete the Ages and Stages Developmental Questionnaire and receive activity ideas and resources to spark further growth and development in your child. Walk-ins welcome. Average assessment lasts for 20 minutes.

School Transitions: What Every Parent Should Know Seminar will examine the social and academic impact of multiple school moves on students of all ages. Participants will explore strategies and receive a variety of high quality resources that will enable them to obtain the information and make the plans necessary to ensure smooth transitions for their students.

Preparing for the Journey: Giving Your Child a Head Start on the Road to Academic Success Parents of children from birth to five years of age will come together to explore facts about early learning and to develop a plan to build literacy, science, and math activities into their daily family routine. Kindergarten readiness will also be addressed. Participants will receive the Military Child Education Coalition book, Chart Your Course: Preparing for the Journey, along with other early literacy resources.

Keys to Success in Elementary School Parents of elementary school students will explore the keys to academic success in elementary school: organization, communication, and involvement.

Special Evening Session 11 September from 1830 to 2100

Chart Your Course for Success in High School and Beyond Parents and their middle and high school students are encouraged to attend this seminar where high school curriculum, college applications, and financial aid will be addressed. (see Chart Your Course Flyer for info)

The EDGE! Program offers out of school opportunities for children and youth ages 6 to 18 to experience, develop, grow and excel by participating in adventure, art, fitness and life skill activities.

It’s not too late to be HIRED! this summer! The HIRED! Apprenticeship Program provides 15-18 year-old youth with meaningful, professionally managed career-exploration opportunities in Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) operations. The program is open to dependents of active duty, DODcivilian, and retired military personnel.

• Candidates must be 15 – 18 years of age• Must be registered with Child, Youth & School Services (CYS Services)• Must have and maintain a GPA of 2.0 or better• Chosen participants are required to work 15 hours per week for 12 weeks• Additional options and requirements may be offered during the Summer Term• Apprentices may complete up to 2 terms per year for 3 consecutive years

July 30-August 3Missoula Theatre WeekA week were the children work on a theatre production from start to finish with a performance at Pioneer Park on Saturday. The sport focus will be Golfing and we will take an interest group to the driving range.

August 6-10Sport Focus: CyclingThe field trips for the week will be UAF Botanical Gardens, UAF Large Animal Research Site, Bowling, Swimming, Recycling Center, Commissary Tour, & Burger Tour. Kindergarteners will be going to the Commissary & Burger King.

General Camp InformationOpen to registered children in grades K-5. Camp drop offs begin at 6 a.m. and field trips run from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. with ALL DAY field trips running from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Building activities will focus on Olympics. Breakfast, lunch, and snack will be provided. Field trips are subject to change due to weather, availability, age appropriateness, and staffing.
