THE JOURNEY OF TRANSFIGURATION "We used to be such good friends. How is it that you've moved so far away?" one man asked another. "Perhaps," the other replied, "you have moved away. By standing still." This exchange very well could have happened between Peter and Jesus, had Peter been allowed to erect tents to stay on the mount of the Transfiguration. He nearly succumbed to the temptation to stay in a place of wonder and light. But Jesus knew the hard truth: we are on a continual journey when we are walking the paths of God's will. It is not good for us to stay in one place on our faith journey. Equally unhealthy is staying put in times of joy and wonder to avoid life's difficulties, or to wallow in our trials and temptations and fail to be companions for our sisters and brothers who are also suffering--or celebrating! The pilgrim Church is required to do one thing on its Lenten journey: to walk continually with Christ as his Body born of water and the Spirit, seeking God's will, helping the reign of God to be known on earth, being led to the end of our journey, transfigured for all time into the company of heaven. ............................................ A WORD FROM OUR PASTOR

About 50 parishioners participated in the Faith Alive retreat held at St. Hilary last weekend. Many commented that this was a wonderful renewal of faith offering deeper insight into how to be a better follower of Jesus Christ as a Catholic Christian in daily life. The experience was

an inspirational, joyful occasion for participants to strengthen their personal relationship with the Lord and Savior of our lives. In addition people experienced a stronger sense of Church, not simply as a once-a-week experience but as a participation in a community of faith in which we help one another and the people in our surrounding community to become the people God created us to be.

If you did not participate in this retreat, you have another great opportunity to be enlivened in your faith. The GROW (God Revives Our World) mission will be held in our church on April 2, 3, 4 – the week before Holy Week - from 7-8:45 p.m. Presentations will be given drawing upon Scripture and the wisdom of Pope Francis, which will be an uplifting spiritual booster shot for all who attend. Each evening will also include music, prayer experiences, quiet reflection, and fellowship. Our faith can assist each of us in becoming a more vital, resilient, caring person in our daily life. Congratulations to all who were confirmed this past Friday evening. Please pray for these young people that they will continue to grow in faith, be active participants at church, and live Gospel values in their daily lives. Pray also for all families – that they will be homes in which our Catholic Christian faith is nurtured, including sharing together in the Sunday celebration of Eucharist.

FAMILY PERSPECTIVES

God wants to bless our families. Are we too busy and stressed to notice and accept these blessings? God is present, waiting to meet and bless us in our families, but needs our time and attention. We need to take time

together as families to have fun, to talk, to work together, to eat and pray.

Schedule some “family times” in the calendar and see Jesus in the transfiguration of your family members and relationships.

COME SING WITH US “O, sing unto the Lord,” Psalm 98 exhorts us, and we do it joyfully. Sometimes, we could use a little help! The Adult Choir sings the 8:30 a.m. Mass on Sundays and is particularly looking for basses at the moment. The adults rehearse on Thursday evenings at 7 p.m. Canticum Novum chamber choir members sing the 5 p.m. Mass on Saturday and the 11 a.m. Mass on Sunday. Canticum is currently looking for tenors. They rehearse on Wednesdays at 7.30 p.m. Our choirs, including the Youth Choir, are always glad to see new faces. Come sing with us!

Don’t wait for 6 strong men

to take you to church.

ST. PATRICK’S DAY DISPENSATION

Out of pastoral solicitude, Bishop Daniel Thomas has formally dispensed the faithful of the Diocese of Cleveland from the obligation to abstain from meat on the memorial of St. Patrick, Bishop, which will be observed this year on Friday, March 17.

Those who choose to partake of meat on that day are encouraged to undertake another penance that day in the form of a corporal or spiritual work of mercy. In this way a faithful Catholic still keeps the penitential spirit of a Friday in Lent and unites oneself more closely with the suffering Christ and His Church.
