THE MERCY, POWER, AND LOVE OF GOD
The first reading today, from the book of Wisdom, makes its point over and over, at least five times in five verses! God is mighty, but lenient to all. God's power is shown in kindness and clemency, not in harshness and condemnation, and those who govern God's people must govern in the same way, with kindness. This loving kindness and gentleness is not contrary to God's might, but is a direct result of God's primacy over all. Who are we, then, to judge what is in the hearts of our fellow Christians and all people, when God commands justice with love and clemency? Likewise, the Holy Spirit makes up for our ignorance of what we need, speaking in a language we do not yet understand. But God knows our needs before we do, understands the intercessions of the Spirit, and helps us in our weakness. This is our hope: God's mercy, power, and love. Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

A WORD FROM THE PASTOR
Many parishioners have shared with me, since I became pastor in March, 2016, how much they value coming together to celebrate the Eucharist each weekend. What an awesome thought to realize that people have been worshiping as the St. Vincent de Paul Parish community for 180 years. Hopefully all of us are being
formed by listening together to the Word of God, sharing the Eucharistic meal, and being open to the influence of the Holy Spirit to live the Gospel daily. Our recently formed Parish Pastoral Council is encouraging us to reflect upon these questions: ♦ What do I value about our weekly experiences of
the Mass? ♦ What hopes or suggestions do I have to enhance
the weekly worship experience, including the times for fellowship, faith formation, and outreach to others?
During one of the weekends in later August, you will have the opportunity to offer your input. Drawing upon your insights at the interactive parish gathering in September we will establish specific goals for enhancing the ways we worship. We will also explore how we can foster greater formation in our Catholic Christian faith and spirituality and reach out to others.
In addition, please consider asking people who are unchurched or inactive in their Catholic Christian faith to join us at our weekly celebrations of Mass. Share with them lovingly what you value about participation in the Eucharist. Invite them to attend and accompany them to an introductory session about our faith on Sunday, September 10, between Masses at 9:45-10:45 a.m. As you know, for those who choose, this will be the first step in the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) journey.

WHAT DOES HUMAN TRAFFICKING LOOK LIKE IN SUMMIT COUNTY?
Human Trafficking in Summit County actually exists in places and involves individuals most people would never guess. To address this situation, there will be a free program sponsored by the Summit County Collaborative Against Human Trafficking on July 29, 2017. It will take place at Our Lady of the Elms High School Commons at 1375 W. Exchange St. Akron, 9 a.m. - Noon when a light lunch will be served. Those desiring more training as a volunteer will have a further session from 1 to 2 pm. The morning portion will include talks by representatives from the FBI, the Rape Crisis Center, the Hotel industry, the county Court, and a survivor of human trafficking. Please call Sr. Barbara Catalano at 330-835-5737 to register by July 24.
QUESTION OF THE WEEK
This week, what can I do to be a mustard seed or a bit of yeast, doing a little good in a hidden way, making a little difference?
HOLY GUCAMOLE!! IT’S A SUPER, SUMMER,
SIZZLING SALE!!
Queen of Angels Religious Treasures, located in St. Joseph Church at 2nd & Sackett streets in Cuyahoga Falls, is holding its annual summer sale now through September 24th. Our goal is to offer you an opportunity to purchase items at a greatly reduced price and at the same time reduce our current inventory to make room for new items. This is a WIN-WIN situation for both our Apostolate and our supporters. It is an opportunity to be able to purchase items for any upcoming, gift giving occasions. Or perhaps there is an item you have wanted but it was more than you could comfortably afford. Many items will be marked down 25 – 50%. We are using a color-coded system that will let you know the discount on each item. If an item does not have a color-coded sticker it will be 15% off, so everything in the store will be discounted.
CONGRATULATIONS
Congratulations to Ralph + Elizabeth Garritano as they celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary July 27. God bless you!
