P. Joachim Lepcha
“Come and See” (John 1:39)
Samuel was living a very comfortable
life in the sanctuary at Shiloh serving the Lord; but God’s word came to him, calling him to be-come a prophet. (1 Sam.3:4.) It was very hard for Samuel to change his comfortable ways of life, conduct, thinking or religious practice which he had set for himself. It is always difficult to adopt any kind change in one’s life. However, God works on this basic desire of the human heart and calls each of us to change from the comfortable ways we have set for ourselves and become a part of the new world order.
We just celebrated the Baptism of the Lord last
Sunday and we renewed our promises to renounce Satan and all his works; to love God more and become the children of light. It means by the virtue of our Baptism; we are invited to change our comfortable pattern of life which may center around the body. For example, if our body and sexual powers are used solely for selfish gratification, enslaving it to a set of non-Christian values, our pattern must change. “Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. That is why, you should use it for the glory of God.” (1 Cor. 6:9)
We may have a negative mind-set which looks
for the worst in almost every situation; having a habit of being perpetually critical, not allowing ourselves the choice to move into a more positive thinking. We may have to evaluate our own religious practices and decide to change the pattern of how we worship God. We must get out of the comfortable routine. This change may bring about true repentance and a change of heart.
Samuel was a minister in the Holy place,
attending the lamp of God. “He was lying in the sanctuary of the Lord where the ark of God was.” (1 Sam. 3:3) God’s plan for him was bigger than just the temple and rituals. The voice of God calling us to change, it must be for the better. Let us seek to change ourselves, not others. Jesus is here to support us when we are ready to change. He tells each one of us, “Come and see.” (John 1:39.) Let us come to Him with our ill-woven comfortable ways. Jesus is the Divine Physician, and His prescriptions are never out of balance. The gravest sins and the deepest despair together cannot baffle the power of Jesus. Let us go to Him and test how good is the Lord.

COVID-19 VACCINE The Archdiocese of Los Angeles strongly encourages Catholics to receive a safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine for the sake of ourselves, our loved ones, and the common good. If some of the faithful choose not to take the vaccine for reasons of conscience, the Vatican says those persons “must do their utmost to avoid becoming vehicles for the transmission of the infectious agent.” On December 21, 2020, the CDF stated:
“All vaccinations recognized as clinically safe and effective can be used in good conscience with the certain knowledge that the use of such vaccines does not constitute formal cooperation with the abortion from which the cells used in production of the vaccines derive” “the morality of vaccination depends not only on the duty to protect
one's own health, but also on the duty to pursue the common good.” “In the absence of other means to stop or even prevent the epidemic, the common good may recommend vaccination, especially to protect the weakest and most exposed.”
Prayer to St. Joseph
We need only ask Saint Joseph for the grace of graces: our conversion.
Let us now make our prayer to him: Hail, Guardian of the Redeemer,
Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary. To you God entrusted his only Son;
in you Mary placed her trust; with you Christ became man.
Blessed Joseph, to us too, show yourself a father
and guide us in the path of life. Obtain for us grace, mercy and courage,
and defend us from every evil. Amen.
Oración a San Jose

DID YOU KNOW?
Building a strong parent-teen relationship
As pandemic lockdowns continue, parents and teenage children are spending more and more time together. It is not always easy to connect with teens, because they often feel their parents do not understand them and prefer to confide in their friends instead. Nevertheless, the time at home offers an opportunity for parent-teen relationships to evolve and for trust to grow in developmentally appropriate ways. Teens need the guidance and support of a parent as an important balance to the permissive understanding of a “friendship” relationship. As children become teenagers, parental authority does not diminish but may be better served by involving the teens in a dialogue about rules and limits. For more information on building relationships with your teenagers, visit https://lacatholics.org/did-you-know/.
