WISDOM
We consider wisdom today. The first reading from the book of Wisdom presents this precious gift as a feminine spirit, a very desirable virtue sought by many and graciously present to all who seek her. In today's Gospel, Jesus tells a parable to illustrate wisdom in a practical, measurable way. The wise will conserve their resources, use them prudently, and mark the passing of time. The foolish, on the other hand, not planning ahead, will be in the dark. Both of these readings tell us how accessible wisdom is to all who simply and honestly seek it.
Paul's words to the Thessalonians are not about wisdom, but describe one result of true wisdom: To the wise person of faith even death holds no terror. Our faith in Jesus' resurrection tells us we will all one day rise to new life in Christ. Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
FAMILY PERSPECTIVES
Today Jesus tells us to “Stay awake for you know neither the day nor the hour.” Family crises are just like this. They can’t be put on our calendar like
an appointment…they just happen. We must be ready and responsive to family members in need. By responding promptly with faith and hope, God will provide wisdom and strength.

SOCIAL JUSTICE MINISTRY After the devastation of World War I, Pope Benedict XV wrote an encyclical entitled: “On Peace and Christian Reconciliation”. The Social Justice Minis-try of St. Vincent/St. Sebastian/St. Bernard/St. Mary invites you to a study and discussion of how this document is relevant in our world today. We will meet on November 19, 2017, after the 9 a.m. Mass in St. Sebastian's Byrider Hall.

A WORD FROM THE PASTOR
Here is an update on the development of our parish goals and objectives for 2018. Our Parish Pastoral Council will meet this Tuesday, November 14, at 7 p.m. in the Scullen Room. This session
will include the moderators of each of our Parish Commissions – Worship, Faith Development, Day School Advisory, Evangelization, Faith at Work, Pastoral Care, Social Justice, Stewardship, Communications, Youth Connections. We will prayerfully develop a parish strategy which will express how, in an overall cohesive way, the various goals and objectives will be advanced. This process will be guided by our primary purpose as a parish – to promote the spiritual growth of our parish community and our mission to live and share the love of Jesus Christ for all. We continue to be grounded in the Gospel, our Catholic Christian teachings, and the experiences and needs of parishioners and the wider community.
Questions we will consider:
How do we keep our Catholic Christian faith as followers of Jesus Christ as the foundation for all we do? In what sequence should our goals and objectives be arranged in light of our parish purpose and values? Which objectives are necessary to accomplish before others begin to be operative? What are the evaluation points in the process which will indicate how we are doing? We will present the overall plan to you, as parishioners, in January 2018. You will have the opportunity to be involved in some aspect of our going forward.

A CATHOLIC-BASED PERSPECTIVE ON DEALING WITH CONFLICT
Father Norm will facilitate an interactive conversation on A Catholic-based Perspective on Dealing with Conflict at St. Hilary, Thursday, November 16, at 7 p.m. in the Gathering Area. In this time of conflict and division in family, our community, and our country, how as followers of Jesus should we be looking at these situations and responding to them? What in our Catholic spiritual wisdom and practice can help us? All are invited, especially our parish community as we collaborate with St. Hilary on several programs.
THE GIVING TREE
The tradition continues… The Christmas Giving Tree will be in the sanctuary for three weeks beginning Saturday, November 11th. If you are able, please take a tag and purchase a gift to share. Unwrapped gifts and/or gift cards should be returned to the sanctuary no later than
Sunday, December 3rd.
Want to help, but don’t want to buy a gift or a gift card? We have a solution for you! Place donations in an envelope marked “Giving Tree” and place it in the collection basket or pick up a scarf or mittens for children and adults and we will take care of the rest. We are helping children from King Elementary, Portage Path Elementary schools, The Children’s Service Board, and Holiday Helpers, which helps provide gifts for foster children.
Please contact Ellen Dies at 330-535-3135 X 101 or at [email protected] if you have any questions. Sponsored by the Middle School and High School Youth Group. Thank you.
