Dear parish family, 17 Sunday C The work of the GLENMARY HOME MISSIONERS is the subject of next weekend's Mission Awareness presenta-tion. Father Neil Pezzulo of the Glenmary Home Missioners will speak at our Masses, telling us about the missionary work his Society is doing in serving the spiritual and material needs of people right here in the United States! This collection for Glenmary Home Missioners marks the annual Mission Awareness presentation promoted by the Archdiocesan Society for the Propagation of the Faith. Hundreds of U.S. counties do not have a resident priest, and in many of these counties the Catholic Church is not present. That means no celebration of the Eucharist, no sacraments, not even a parish community in which to find fellowship and support. Glenmary Home Missioners are working hard to fill the void-to bring the love of Jesus and His Church to the home missions in Appalachia and the South. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to hear of the Glenmary apostolate in Appalachia and the South and to offer our prayers and financial support for their important ministry in the Church. Please be generous. Our gospel reading this Sunday is so rich in meaning about prayer life - how and what to pray. However there is a tendency that we can only be fixated to the one verse which says, "Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find, knock and it shall be open to you.” This verse taken isolated from the other verses would sound like a Genie in a magic lamp of Aladdin. But God is not a heavenly Genie that serves us as if we are the Master. He is sovereign Lord of the Universe and moves according to his pur-poses. God hears and answers all our prayers only that His answers cannot be limited to what we desire. They may come as “yes, but not yet,” “yes, but not the way you think” or “no, something is better.” And when His answer is sometimes "No", it is not because He doesn't care but because it might not be what is fitting and best for us according to his infinite wisdom. For He desires only the good; the problem is that we oftentimes did not see it that way. Prayer is not only about asking but more deeply it’s about relationship. This Sunday’s gospel underscores the power of a good relationship with the Lord our God. We call God our Father when we act as His child and feel that close personal relationship with Him. The readings invite us to examine our relationship with Him and ask ourselves, what has our prayer life been like during the rest of the week? Perhaps today we can resolve to deepen our relationship with the Lord our God through frequent communication to Him in prayer. And may we receive the grace to do so. Blessings to you and have a good week! Fr.

P. Tony
