January 22 – Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

JANUARY 21 - 29

9 Days for Life is an annual period of prayer

and action focused on cherishing the gift of

every person's life. Surrounding the Day of

Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn

Children on January 22 (anniversary of Roe v.

Wade), the overarching intention of the

centerpiece novena also highlights many other

facets of respecting each other's God-given

dignity, especially by respecting human life at

every stage and in every circumstance.

9 Days of Life is an opportunity to pray for

the respect and protection of each person's life

and to gather together in prayer, action, and

fellowship with others.

It's okay to begin today, Sunday, January

22. Visit www.9daysforlife.com to download the

free mobile app or novena.

YOUR PRAYERS MATTER.

YOUR SACRIFICES MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

SUNDAY REFLECTIONS

It's probably not a good idea to teach you how to

play poker here at Mass. But the poker game Texas

Hold 'em has a good faith lesson for us.

The game begins with two cards being dealt face

down. The table of players evaluate their chances of

a winning hand based on these first cards and then

they make their first bets. Next, three additional

common cards are dealt face up. More betting. Then

the dealer lays down the fourth common card. It's

here that very confident players can bet everything

by declaring "all in." There is still one final card to

come.

If someone goes "all in" the players are all

confronted with the choice of matching the bet or

folding their hands and losing what they have thus

far wagered.

As Jesus walked the shores of the Sea of Galilee he

invited the fishermen to go "all in." All of them

immediately went "all in," abandoning their families,

their boats, and the rest of their lives. Jesus walks by

your life, too. As he did with his apostles, he invites

you to go "all in." (Deacon Dick Folger, Celebration)

DO YOU WANT TO READ THE WHOLE

BIBLE AND/OR CATECHISM IN 2017? – If

one of your New Year's resolutions was to do more

spiritual reading, Brandon Vogt can help.

According to Vogt, by investing just ten minutes

each day, you can actually make it through the

entire Bible! To see reading plans and helpful tips

to accomplish this, go to brandonvogt.com/how-to-

easily-read-the-whole-bible/.

THE LORD’S LAUGHTER – A woman awoke

during the night to find that her husband was not in

bed. She put on her robe and went downstairs. He

was sitting at the kitchen table with a cup of coffee

in front of him. He appeared to be in deep thought,

just staring at the wall.

She saw him wipe a tear from his eye and take a

sip of his coffee.

"What's the matter, dear? Why are you down

here at this time of night?" she asked.

"Do you remember twenty years ago when we

were dating and you were only 16?" he asked.

"Yes, I do," she replied.

"Do you remember when your father caught us

in the back seat of my car kissing?"

"Yes, I remember."

"Do you remember when he shoved that shotgun

in my face and said, 'Either you marry my daughter

or spend twenty years in jail'?"

"Yes, I do," she said.

He wiped another tear from his cheek and said,

"You know...I would have gotten out today." (ChristiansUnite)
