Guardians make a fine bond within us.

The institution has a Placement Cell. Time to time new job information is given in

special placement board. The job seekers benefitted by this by and hope. The

Department organises community services, community survey, Environment Awareness

Programme every year. We invite community leaders, teachers, and dignitary members

of the society to Department functions. Sometimes experts from various backgrounds

come to the institution, which provide a good exposition on student-teachers.

1.12 Furnish details on the following aspects of curriculum design

(i). Interdisciplinary / multidisciplinary strategies

Knowledge is provided as a whole connected to different subjects in our institution.

Language is connected to Social Study; Science is linked with language and so on.

Teaching is considered interdisciplinary as because all disciplines are interconnected

and interdependent. All the subjects in evaluation are linked with the core subjects like

Educational Philosophy, Educational Psychology and Educational Technology. The

same methods are applied for all Science subjects. So they are interdisciplinary. For

Example, Mathematics is correlated with all subjects. Everywhere we can use

mathematics. Students from all streams learn Psychological tests, Teaching Skills,

Action Research, Survey, Organizing CCA and maintenance of records etc. Since

education is both Science and Arts, it is interdisciplinary.

(ii). Promoting self-learning

Here sufficient opportunity for self-learning is provided. Students are actively engaged

in learning activities through the following ways.

22

NAAC - SSR Department of Education December, 2014

A. Daily Assembly

Student-teachers are organised daily morning assembly themselves. Commanding,

prayer, quiz, national anthem, pledge, thought of the day, news are different activities

they organise daily.

B. Assignment

Assignment is given in each Course and Method. It is given to broaden their information

about a particular area of the Subject. It is also part of continuous evaluation. It

enhances self learning.

C. Seminar

Each Student Teacher is to present a paper on a specific topic in Seminar. The Seminar

is organized in dialogue mode in core papers and individual paper presentation in

Methods.

D. Survey Project

In each course, a project is undertaken by the Student Teachers. They conduct it in

groups but submit their report individually. The nature of work is data collection,

compilation, analysis and interpretation of data. It is also part of their internal

assessment of B. Ed degree.

E. Debate

Some educational issues are posed to the Student Teachers to conduct a debate. Two

contending groups are selected through a lottery method. One group speaks in favour of

the ‗Motion‘ and the other group against the ‗Motion.‘ Rest students act as audience. One

of Teacher Educators moderates, which facilitates their analytical, logical abilities in

right direction.

F. Educational Trips

Educational Tours for 3-5 days to important places are organized. Later, the Student

Teachers‘ experiences are shared through discussion. A final report having 20-25 pages

is prepared by student-teachers at last.

23

NAAC - SSR Department of Education December, 2014

G. Library

Students are given opportunity to surf reference books along with their course books.

Daily one period of 45 minutes duration is allotted to the library work. All the students

are divided into different groups as per their subjects of specialization. They do their self

learning through books.

H. Reading Room

After a book is issued, the students are allowed to utilize the Reading Room. The room

remains open during office hours.

I. Internet

The institution has a Computer Lab equipped with twenty one computers, all connected

through Wi-Fi network for internet. On specific period it is allotted to the Student Teach-

ers for Computer usage under the guidance of computer instructor.

J. Micro Teaching

Before Macro Teaching, the Student Teachers are oriented about different skills of teach-

ing through Micro Teaching Programme. It spreads over one month covering eight skills.

Each skill is evaluated by the Teacher Educators as a part of Internal Assessment.

K. Workshop

The last session of microteaching is workshop. It is one week programme. During this

period various self-learning activities are worked out. Unit lesson plan, class room man-

agement, Blue print preparation, paper presentation, psychological test, action research

etc. are conducted during this period.

L. Internship Programme

Internship programme is arranged in both in–campuses as well as off-campus mode. It is

part of assessment carrying 50 marks. The schools are selected with the co-operation of

the principals of schools. Secondary and Higher Secondary schools are selected for such

programme. The Department prepares a format for evaluation of Student Teachers. The

list of activities of internship programme is given to the Student Teachers.

24

NAAC - SSR Department of Education December, 2014

M. Psychological Test

During workshop Student-teachers learn at least 2 psychological tests and their

execution. After that they will practice other tests in the laboratory.

N. Blue-print

Evaluation is an integral part of teaching. To make a question-paper balanced and com-

prehensive in terms of weightage given to different components of content, including all

the types of questions (objective/subjective, short/essay type etc) and ensuring different

difficulty levels, Blueprint is taught to the students so that they learn how to set a bal-

anced Question Paper.

O. Action research

The Student Teachers during their Practice Teaching face some problems related to

teaching–learning process, school environment, students‘ participation in the class etc.

The solutions to such problems are found through Action Research. Action Research is a

part of their internal assessment.

P. Human Awareness

Sometimes we organise awareness programme like plantation, save environment, save

the earth, pollution free programme, Campaign like anti-liquor, health awareness, popu-

lation explosion, conservation of energy etc.

(iii). Internship Approach to Practice Teaching

Teaching Practice is vital component to teacher education programme. This institution

tries to develop an update model of teaching practice which is given below. Before going

to teaching practice they have to attend micro teaching through four phases. They

learn skills of teaching, psychological test, blue print, using of action verb, management

of class, active learning techniques, simulation, demo lesson, unit planning, lesion

planning etc. through these phases.

among the students/trainees such as:

a. Learning to learn

‗Learning to learn‘ is a modern slogan in educational activity. All our

programmes, observations, activities and curriculum are geared to achieve this objective.

The whole department is arranged in such a way that everywhere we can learn some-

thing. But the modern civilisation is running towards learning to earn. So our students

are not excluded from that idea. It is observed that more trainees are in the way of

‗learning to serve‘, and ‗learning to earn‘. A few of students and teachers are preparing

for this objective to develop their future.

b. Communication skills

The trainees learn communication skill through various ways. Firstly, in

curriculum there is a special paper IV regarding this approach. Secondly, Micro teaching

and practice teaching provide ample opportunities to develop communication skill among

trainees. Thirdly, there are adequate programmes, like debate, discussion, seminar,

workshop, speech, celebration of different jayantis, guest lectures, campaign, and

community services etc. which expose them to develop communication skill.

43

NAAC - SSR Department of Education December, 2014

facility is provided to the total department. Our library is connected with DELNET. It

helps to search various journals, books, for reading purpose. Students are getting smart

class facility here. We are preparing to take admission and publication of results through

online. To provide immediate information we use SMS, telephone and news paper.

d. Learning to work together as well as independently

Learners get opportunity to learn group wise as well as independently. We have

applied house system to work group wise. Sometimes community services and awareness

programmes are organised to develop group activities. Micro teaching and practise

teaching are organised group wise. Other activities are rendered by them independently.

In cultural programme some group songs are cited. Preparation of dialogue seminar

through group activity is commendable.

theoretical papers and three papers are concerned with the practical aspects of teaching

learning process. Suggested syllabus may be modified whenever required in the light of
