Lecturer Travel Grant
We organize a third workshop in optics. We use our traveler lecture grant to bring professor
Enrique Galvez from Colgate University in USA. He gave a course about Polarization during 3 days.
We also have other special guest professor Efrain Solarte from Universidad del Valle at Colombia
who had a special talk. The workshop was tuition free for all the students who made a previous
registration. We also offer coffee breaks through all the event. We gave an assistance certificate to
members of the audience who participated on it. Moreover, all members form the chapter had
dinner with our Lecturer for having a closer experience with him, about his professional life and
the experience on his field.

Outreach Activity We have visited two high schools to stimulate learning optics and physics in young people. The first
high school was Gimnasio El Hontanar (www.gimnasiohontanar.edu.co/) that we visited on August
2016. During the morning we have spent over there we have visited three different courses
corresponding to grades 8th, 9th and 10th. We made three groups with members of our chapter in
order to have three teams of instructors visiting all the students involved in the activity.
A possible member talking about structural color.
We have visited the second high school on September 2017 and made a science fair for students from grades 9th and 10th to have a total of 300 students. We set six tables with different demonstrations and made quick questions to the students that were setting in groups of six people. There were three groups of winners and every student from those groups won a prize. We also gave different journals to the participants that wanted it. This high school was Colegio Las Américas (http://colegio.redp.edu.co/lasamericas/).

Officer Travel Grant A member of our chapter (Jose Gomez Mateus) attended the Student Leadership Conference and
the SPIE Photonics Europe 2016, which will be held from 3-7April 2017 in Brussels, Belgium.
Besides, CaoriOrganista traveled to Illinois University, and she shared with us her experience there
and a brief talk about her experiment and work.
Recruitment Activity For our Recruitment Activity at the end of the year we organized a meeting with some people who
assisted to third workshop on Optics. We met with their and shared some snacks while we talked
about the activities.
Spending time together We went to play bowling and spend some time together. Julian Triana was the winning contender
applying physics in the game!
Silvia Ceballos doing strike!
Astronomy for blind We have following with Astronomy for blind. We shared a lunch with people from our chapter and
a special guest, Johana Hidrobo, a last year student of the academic program Special Education,
which is addressed to teach people with any kind of physical or cognitive disability. She is also
blind, and was giving us advice in order to develop the activity related to teaching astronomy to
blind kids. We have showed her the evaluation method we have implemented to evaluate the
impact of this activity. It has been a big project for a long time and we hope finish it this year.
Johana told us these activities can be a master thesis on her field. Also, we met to do to finish the
modules we have presented to Johana.
