Pope Benedict says, Silence is an integral element of communication. We are better able to listen to and understand ourselves with greater clarity what it is we want to say and what we expect from others. By remaining silent we allow other person to speak, to express him or herself. We avoid being tied simply to our own words and ideas. Pope points out - space is created for mutual listening, and deeper human relationships become possible. If God speak to us in silence we in turn discover in silence the possibility of speaking with God and about God and bring us to the point where the word was born. Silence is not totally silence and doing nothing, silence is to contemplate prudent into our response. To understand is to stand on the foot of the cross like our Blessed Mother who reflect in silence to to understand. He gave take home questions to reflect, How is silence your friend? How comfortable are you with silence? and What do you do more to find God in silence?

The second part given by Mr. Edwin Lopez, The Path of Evangelization. The Primary work of Our Lord is Evangelization. Knowledge and prestigious will give you power, but character respect.

Mr Edwin explain that Evangelization is life witnessing. Many find themselves confronted with the ultimate question of human existence: Who am I? Pope explain those who ask this question call to silent reflection, something that is often more eloquent than a hasty answer and permits seekers to reach into the depths of their being and open themselves to the path towards knowledge that God has inscribed in human hearts. The Church’s mission springs from this mystery- he says - and it is this mystery which impels Christians to become heralds of hope and salvation, witnesses of that love which promotes human dignity and builds justice and peace.

Love who direct us towards our neighbor to offer them the light of Christ in their suffering. In conclusion Pope Benedict says “learning to communicate is learning to listen and contemplate as well as speak. This – he points out - is especially important for those engaged in the task of evangelization”.

representing a bead. Selected people present in church will embody the Rosary. A wireless microphone will be passed around the human rosary, with each representative leading the prayer associated with his or her position in the Rosary.

Through the living Rosary a person comes to represent each bead of the Rosary and he/she takes a rose and stands around the Church after each prayer. After the participants each takes one rose and gathers around the Church, members of the congregation will rise from their pews to join them; at the end all will be in the circle around the church with a rose all praying the Rosary to Our Blessed Mother.

The celebration commenced with a Santacruzan Mass at 6:30 pm inside the church and a procession at 7:15 pm around the four main villages near the parish on May 31, Thursday. Assembly place will be at the parish grounds. This activity, includes zagalas (muses) wearing costumes/ Attires with their consortes (escorts) parading

at night accompanied by lights.

The religious procession, “Santacruzan”, is a re-enactment of the finding of the Holy Cross of Jesus Christ by St Helena (Reina Helena), mother of Roman Emperor St Constantine. According to legend St. Helena proceeded on a pilgrimage to Calvary in 300 A.D. to find the cross of Jesus. When she found three crosses at the place where Jesus and the two thieves were crucified, in order to find out which is the cross of Jesus, she asked her sick servant to lie down on all of the crosses. When he touched one of them, he was miraculously cured.

The festival was introduced to the Philippines during the Spanish period and continues to be celebrated by Filipinos all over the world in the month of May.

Since the celebration falls under the summer months, the faithful are all invited to witness and participate in these festivities.

Our Environment, Our ResponsibilityBy Glo V. Pineda,

Our planet Earth, our only home, is in crisis today!

It is in a bad a state. We, the inhabitants, caused the deplorable conditions. We have abused and misused the earth, our environment and dwelling place, and its resources, which God has bestowed on us to manage. We failed to remember our identity’s role in the ecosystem, our interdependence with God’s creations.

The New Story of Creations (Genesis 1:1-3) tells us that God created the heavens, the Earth, and all that is on Earth. The human person is His Crown of Creation and every human being is empowered to be the Caretaker or Steward of all He has created. All creations then were in perfect condition as when God, looking at everything He made each day, said, “How good it was!”

Taking a little time to reflect, perhaps we may ask ourselves: What then happened and is still happening to what God has made? As His steward, what have I contributed and still contributing to its deterioration? What can I do to inspire and encourage others to take concern for God’s creation in my country, in my community, and in my own home?

Our irresponsible acts come back to us in the form of calamities (man-made and natural) poverty, and hunger.

“Earlier on it was pointed out that massive logging and mining activities were the culprit that caused our environmental problems (Arsenio and Arsenio XIV)

Today, we are faced with the horrible effects of global

warming and climate change. “Global warming is the heating of the Earth’s surface. Climate change is the effect of the change in surface temperature. It can be too hot or too cold. It is manifested by the erratic changes in climatic condition such as rainy summer.” (Arsenio and Arsenio 78).

We reap the consequences of our irresponsibilities, our human greed and business interests, our ignorance. Thus:

• Loss of our forest cover due to illegal logging and mining leads to severe flooding during typhoons and monsoons; massive soil erosion; endangered species of plants and animals; dwindling and scarcity of fresh water supply

• Diminishing ricefields due to conversion of our lands into subdivisions, golf courses, plantations, and industrial sites

• Decreasing fish and other marine resources, which may partly be attributed to muro-ami and dynamite fishing

• Pollution of the air we breathe due to the use of chemical pesticides and fertilizers by our farmers; carbon emission from vehicles, burning of waste, etc.

• Depletion of the ozone layer due to chemical compounds, CFCs (leaked from refrigerators, air conditioners, and other appliances) give rise to ultraviolet radiation which can cause cancer

• Too much waste generated by individuals, industries, and institutions which are composed of dirty mixed waste, a lethal threat to our lives. “Leachate is a toxic liquid coming from our waste landfills or dumpsites. This untreated leachate will seep into the ground water which is our source of drinking water.” (Arsenio and Arsenio 102)

Global warming and climate change are caused by the increasing emission of greenhouse gases from particular carbon dioxide emission caused by burning oil, gas, and coal. Our role is of utmost importance in those global changes: by the lifestyle we lead coupled with the way we use our energy, tools, and resources.

As responsible stewards, it is incumbent upon us all that we do some little acts to preserve and protect our environment.

... to be continued

St. CelestineFeastday: May 19

When the father of this Italian saint died, his good mother brought up her twelve children well, even though they were very poor. “Oh, if I could only have the joy of seeing one of you become a saint!” she use to say. Once when she asked as usual, “which one of you is going to become a saint?” little Peter (who was to become Pope Celestine) answered with all his heart, “Me, mama! I’ll become a saint!” And he did.

When he was twenty, Peter became a hermit and spent his days praying and reading the Holy Bible. Because other hermits kept coming to him and begging him to guide them, he started a new Order.

Peter was an old monk, eighty-four years of age when he was made Pope. It came about in a very unusual way. For two years, there had been no Pope, because the Cardinals could not decide whom to choose. St. Peter sent them a message to decide quickly, for God was not pleased at the long delay. Then and there, they chose the holy old hermit himself! Poor Peter wept when he heard the news, but he sorrowfully accepted and took the name Celestine V.
