The aloe plant has long been revered as a medicine for various skin ailments ranging from dryness to burns. It has even been suggested by many doctors as an alternative treatment for those suffering from internal issues such as arthritis, interestingly enough. Even in situations like this, aloe vera is said to be of help because a topical application sees it penetrating the skin and reaching the ailing area, providing relief from the pain. Aloe vera has also been said to have promise in fighting off the onset of alopecia in men. Alopecia is the medical term for balding, and a lot of men worry about it constantly. This is actually one reason aloe vera does not only show up in soaps but also in shampoos. Furthermore, the powerful moisturising properties of the plant’s sap help to prevent the skin, scalp, and hair from drying out. This is one of the best reasons to use aloe vera soap, as a matter of fact: for its richly emollient, moisturising properties. It can help to make your skin look and feel suppler and younger. Aloe vera soap can truly be used for a lot of things. Many studies have also shown that aloe vera can help to speed up healing for cases such as burns. This is why some cultures actually apply the sap from the plant to scrapes or burns on the skin, in an effort to help the wound heal

This is completely optional, but if youd like to do this, be sure that if youre embedding a scented soap that the scent blends well with peppermint. Youll also want to choose a soap that will contrast nicely with a white or cream colored soap. This homemade peppermint foot scrub soaprecipe fits one of mywooden cold process soap moldsand will yield 10-12 bars depending on how they are cut. My batch made ten 4.5-5 oz. bars of natural peppermint foot soap.Start by preparing your lye-water by measuring out the water in fluid ounces and weighing the lye. Then slowly pour the lye into the water in a well ventilated area and stir. Set aside to cool where it wont get knocked over or accidentally be mistaken for drinking water.Next weigh out the coconut oil, rice bran oil, olive oil, palm oil and shea butter and place into a large pot. Melt over medium heat. Once completely melted, remove from heat and set aside to cool. While the lye-water and soapmaking oils are cooling you can prepare your other ingredients. Weigh out the sweet almond oil and peppermint essential oils. Use a Tablespoon measurement to measure out the walnut shell and pumice powders and a teaspoon to measure out the titanium dioxide. Set aside. Have your plastic transfer pipettes and eucalyptus and tea tree oils on hand for later. Line your soap mold and place the chunks of colored soap evenly along the bottom of the soap mold.Once your ingredients have cooled to 100 degrees F or less, add the titanium dioxide to the soapmaking oils and mix with the immersion blender. Next, stir the lye-water into your soapmaking oils using your immersion hand blender. At a light trace stir in the sweet almond oil and peppermint essential oil. Using plastic transfer pipettes a different one for each essential oil measure out 3ml each of the eucalyptus and tea tree oils and stir into the soap. Mix well. Once the soap has reached a heavy trace pourHALFof the soap mixture into your prepared, lined mold with the soap chunks.Next, add the pumice and walnut shell powders to the soap still in the pot and mix until the ingredients are evenly distributed, then pour this remaining soap into the mold on top of the soap you poured earlier. Cover and insulate the soap for 24 hours. After your soap has completed the saponification process, you cancut your soap into barsto cure for 3 6 weeks before use.

ORANGE + TEA TREE SOAP

Soap making has been the perfect hobby for someone like me who lacks creative tunnel vision. Once I got the hang of it, I found that it didnt take much time to make one batch, and when finished, I could leave my supplies alone until I got the next recipe idea. Supplies dont take up much room, I can finish other projects while the soap cures, and I can formulate recipes based on what inspires me in the moment. My latest inspiration was orange and tea tree oil. The combination of those two essential oils creates a revitalizing scent thats perfect for summer, and tea tree oil has antiseptic and acne treating qualities to help keep your skin clean and refreshed.Makes about 16 4 ounce bars of soapBase Oils21.25 oz. olive oil (48.30%)15.5 oz. coconut oil (35.23%)4.25 oz. sunflower oil (9.66%)3 oz. walnut oil (6.82%)Lye Solution11.75 oz. water6.25 oz. lyeEssential Oils2 oz. orange essential oil.5 oz. tea tree essential oilFollow Tiffanys soap making instructionshere. CREATIVITY, A VANILLA BEAN LATTE SOAP RECIPE

Vanilla Bean Latte SoapYields about 80 oz. of soap*This recipe is divided into 2 parts: the coffee base and the vanilla bean base. Youll have to measure and mix each part separately, and layer them in your loaf mold at the end.*The Coffee BaseLye Solution8.5 oz. double-strength coffee [to make double strength coffee, pour 2/3 cup course coffee grounds into an 8-cup press and pour 4 cups of simmering water over the grounds. Add all the Base Oils to a large bowl and microwave in short bursts until the oils have almost completely dissolved. Stir to finish melting, as you dont want to over heat the oils. Set the bowl aside until the temperature drops below 125 degrees F (also staying above 100!)3. Once everything comes to temperature, add the lye solution to the base oils and mix with a stick blender until the mixture thickens and reaches trace (a light, pudding-like consistency that leaves marks on the surface of your soap pictured in the video!)4. Once trace has been reached, add yourcoffee fragranceand mix again with the stick blender until the fragrance oil is fully incorporated. Pour the soap mixture evenly into a lined loaf mold, cover and set aside. The Vanilla Bean BaseLye Solution8.5 oz. water4 oz. lye (sodium hydroxide)Base Oils5 oz. mango butter9 oz. coconut oil12.5 oz. sunflower oil1.5 oz. shea butterTo add at trace2 tbsp.vanilla bean powder1. Follow steps 1-4 from The Coffee Base instructions, substituting water for the double-strength coffee, and vanilla bean powder for the coffee fragrance oil.2. Slowly pour the Vanilla Bean Base in an even layer on top of the Coffee Base in the loaf mold, and tap the mold on the countertop to release any trapped air bubbles. Cover and set aside in a cool, dry place for 24 hours.3. The next day, de-mold the soap loaf and cut into squares or rectangles, whatever your preference! Place each bar of soap end-up on a cookie sheet and store them in a cool, dry place to cure for 4-6 weeks. You can test your soap after 2 days, but give them a long cure so that they harden properly (allowing all the moisture to evaporate).A RECIPE FOR CAFE SOAP

This soap is made with a double-strength coffee base instead of water, used coffee grounds as an exfoliant, and jojoba oil for its great nutrients and skin conditioning properties. We cut the bars last night and now were impatiently counting the days until theyre finished curing. Were really excited to gift these when theyre ready that is if we dont end up hoarding them all for ourselves

PEPPERMINT MOCHA SOAP

It looks almost good enough to eat, and the chocolate, coffee and peppermint combination smells delicious. This soap is definitely a winter treat for your body.

A RECIPE FOR CITRUS HONEY SCOTCH ALE SOAP

Fun fact about homemade soap: because of the superfatting (a small % of excess oils), homemade soaps are so much more moisturizing than typical store-bought soaps that you may never need to use a hand moisturizer again. Im speaking from experience here. Speaking of men and soaps did you know you can make soap with beer? Citrus Honey Scotch Ale Soap RecipeMakes an 84 oz. batch, yielding twenty 4.2 oz. bars if cut from a loaf moldBase Oils

21 oz. olive oil5 oz. macadamia nut oil10 oz. jojoba oil (you can substitute apricot kernel oil for jojoba oil if you need a cheaper alternative)3 oz. castor oil12 oz. coconut9 oz. palm kernel oilLye Solution19 oz. dark beer- very very flat at room temperature. I suggest pouring your beer into a large bowl and letting it sit for a day or 2. When you mix the lye in with the beer, if theres any carbonation, it will bubble up and overflow like a volcano experiment. Because theres a chance of this happening even if you do air out your beer, definitely place your mixing pitcher inside a larger bowl (or the sink) so that any potential spillage will have a safe place to go.8 oz. lyeEssential Oils3/4 oz grapefruit3/4 oz lemon3/4 oz orangeAdditive3 generous tbsp honey to add at trace, right after your Essential Oils.Exfoliant2 tbsp ground malted barleyRemember to let your soaps cure for 4-6 weeks before using or gifting!

PECAN ROOIBOS + ORANGE SOAP

Since learning more about the world of tea fromKTizo, I decided this holiday season Id make a tea-based soap. I used my current favorite blend,Pecan Rooibos, and added orange essential oil to complement the nutty, sweet aroma and burnt orange color of the tea. For added texture and a mild exfoliant, I stirred in a few tablespoons of used tea leaves.

Pecan Rooibos + Orange SoapMakes about 16 4 ounce bars of soap

Base Oils13.5 oz. canola oil13.5 oz. coconut oil13.5 oz. olive oil4.5 oz. sunflower oilLye Solution12 oz. brewed tea, cooled to room temperature* (I recommend loose leaf tea fromKTizo)6.4 oz. lyeAdditivesAdd 0.75 ounces orange essential and 2-3 tablespoons of used tea leaves right before mixture reaches trace. As always, remember to let your soaps cure for 4-6 weeks before using or gifting!*It is very important that you allow the tea to cool. Otherwise, when you add the lye to hot tea, the solution may boil over.
