Christ Is Risen!

Easter isn't a spiritual event that happened just once, long ago; we don't say "Christ has risen" but "Christ is risen," because He rose, body and soul, and is still alive and with us today. That is the true meaning of Easter.

Christ is Risen! Indeed He is Risen!

Xристос Bоскрес! Boiстину Bоскрес! He has Risen! He is alive! Praise God! The Church bells of Christian churches all over the world ring with an abundance of joy on this day, for the Lord has indeed risen. Night has passed. The clouds of defeat have been scattered. Once again we are reminded that the Lord accomplished our salvation. The act of dying was crowned with His rising from death. Salvation and eternal peace is ours for the

asking. Because of what He did, we no longer are bound by evil. Death is no longer the feared enemy. All creation rejoices this day for Christ has risen from the dead. On this Glorious Easter Sunday, may your lives be filled with joy and hope so strong that nothing will shatter it. As we celebrate His Resurrection from the dead, may you be filled with hope in our own resurrection. May this Easter Day be the beginning of a new and bright era of your lives and may your daily trials be small. May you continue to love and be loved. May you reach out to others as the Lord reached out to us. In a most traditional Ukrainian way, let us sing out that “Christ has risen from the dead, conquering death by death and giving life to those in the tomb.” Christ has Indeed Risen! Have a Glorious & Joyful Easter! Frs. Mark and Alan and Protodeacon Stefan & our families

The Pascal Period During Lent the Church has been preparing for the glorious day of Christ’s Resurrection by many prayers, liturgies and services. The Easter festivities begin with the Resurrection Service and the main features of the Resurrection Matins is “JOY”. The time for weeping is over; now is the time for rejoicing. At every Liturgical service we hear the joyful hymn “Christ is Risen from the dead, by death He conquered death and to those in the graves He granted life.” The week following Easter is known as “Bright Week” The royal doors are kept open throughout the entire Easter week to symbolize that the gates of Heaven have been opened to all the faithful believers. During Easter Week and on Sundays until Ascension Day, the priest blesses the faithful with a cross. The Resurrection troparion is sung before and after each service. THERE IS NO FAST AND MEAT MAY BE EATEN ON FRIDAY OF

BRIGHT WEEK

On the first day of the week, Mary of Magdala came to the tomb early in the morning, while it was still dark, and saw the stone removed from the tomb. So she ran and went to Simon Peter and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and told them, “They have taken the Lord from the tomb, and we don’t know where they put him.” So Peter and the other disciple went out and came to the tomb. They both ran, but the other disciple ran faster than Peter and arrived at the tomb first; he bent down and saw the burial cloths there, but did not go in. When Simon Peter arrived after him, he went into the tomb and saw the burial cloths there, and the cloth that had covered his head, not with the burial cloths but rolled up in a separate place. Then the other disciple also went in, the one who had arrived at the tomb first, and he saw and believed. For they did not yet understand the Scripture that he had to rise from the dead. —John 20: 1-9 Jesus Christ is Risen, Today Christians rejoice and celebrate the greatest liturgical feasts of the year.. Darkness is gone, the light is at hand. Christ conquered death when He rose to life. When in dying God destroyed death and in rising, God restored life.

Through Jesus’ passion and death, and His rising we are saved. And therefore we live in Him and with Him, we all rose with Christ on this day. We have reflected and renewed the life, passion and death of Christ, thus we become new in His Resurrection. Only the Resurrection of Christ can bring true joy to us. If we wish to share in this great joy and the peace which surpasses all understanding, we must first learn to share in His sufferings. There cannot be an Easter without a Calvary. We have to die with Christ in order to have life in the Resurrection. During Lent we have to die to self in a certain measure, if we wish to live and share in His Resurrection. Easter reminds us that Christ rose from the dead to overcome death and to give us eternal life. This is indeed a cause for rejoicing. With grateful and humble hearts, we now receive and celebrate the gifts of the love and mercy of God; may the blessings of Easter be upon us!

A L S O . . . . . . It is the tradition of our Byzantine Church that from Easter to Pentecost we typically would not kneel at any time during the Divine Liturgy but rather stand. Kneeling is a penitential and humbling moment which is an appropriate posture for us towards God, however Easter beckons something different. During this Easter moment the theological understanding is that we as resurrected children, now stand before God as friends, with dignity and respect for Jesus Christ, who became human and won salvation for us.

He Has Risen!

SPIRITUAL REFLECTION The Resurrection is Here. People condemned Jesus to death. His death condemned us to immortality. People struck Him, He embraces us. Never did man show more hate for God than when they crucified His Son. God never showed more love for us, than when He was resurrected. The people wanted God dead but with His resurrection He made mankind alive! The crucified Christ, resurrected on the third day, killed death and gave us life. Hence, we sing “Christ is Risen from the dead, conquered death by death and to those in the graves He granted life!” For until the Resurrection of Our lord, death was destructive for man. Now with the Heavens opened to those who live with Christ, upon death, only leaves behind their body. Through Christ’s death He conquered our death. Among the miracles, this is the greatest one. From it sprouted faith, love and hope.

EASTER PRAYER Dear Lord, we offer You our thanks upon this Easter Day. For the miracles You have wrought and blessings You send our way. We thank You for our blossoming world, For eyes with which to see Created by Your blessed hands….Our Lord of humility. And every place where we may go, In all we say and do, Let our deeds be such that they reflect the spirit of You.
