     YOUTH LEADERS DEVELOPMENT

At the Rotary Club of Holy Spirit D3780 INTERACT IS

    THE BEGINNING.

Soon after the Interact Club of Holy Spirit National

High School  was formed in 2009, its officers and mem-bers immediately underwent training and immersion inproviding hands-on service through school projects andhose initiated by RC Holy Spirit. After graduating from

high school in 2010, the former Interactors organized theRotaract Club of Holy Spirit so that they could continueproviding service above self, a mind-set and passion theyhad developed during Interact days.

Since then, the development chain for youth service part-ners of Holy Spirit has been defined, from Interact to Ro-aract and hopefully soon, to “Associate Member” andeventually active member  of Rotary.

Even as they participate in youth trainings, fellowevents and talent contests organized by the districtby the club, the Interactors and Rotaractors of Holy consistently demonstrate in the many community seprojects completed jointly with the Rotary club, what

always do best: RENDER SERVICE ABOVE SELFTHE COMMUNITY.

The Rotaractors and Interactors have participated inyear’s major, high-visibility community service projecRC Holy Spirit including anti-dengue awareness & sing campaigns, drug-abuse/HIV-AIDS prevention foanti-rabies dog vaccinations, blood-letting, regular Otal medical missions, large-scale annual medical-dediagnostic missions with SM Foundation, local dentasion, gift-giving & feeding programs, disaster relief dbution, and national chess tournament to develop spmanship & enhance Rotary image.

    Foundation Chairman’s March 2015 Messa

Now that the first year of the new model has been completed, it's time tohow it's working. One of the most pooutcomes is that more clubs and dishave banded together to implement la

more sustainable projects. Our RFoundation funded 488 district grants wa total of $23.5 million and 868 ggrants worth $47.3 million.

The Trustees are mindful of their fiduduty to ensure that Foundation funds are spent wisely. To achieve this, clubs and districts have the support of The RoFoundation Cadre of Technical Advisers. These are Rotvolunteers who have been vetted as specialists in one or areas of focus, or in financial audits. Last year, on behalf oTrustees, these volunteers carried out more than 153 asments. Forty-four were technical (desk) reviews prior to fun

approval, and 68 were mandatory on-site screenings for laprojects, either before approval or during the projects' immentation. The cadre also conducted 41 audits of projectsdistricts.

We have learned that some sponsors of global grants struggled with needs assessments, sustainability, and moing and evaluation. This is where the cadre can be of pracassistance, so its members have been asked to increase availability to grant sponsors from the start of the applicprocess. Clubs and districts that sponsor grants can accessassistance by contacting their regional grants officer.

We are looking to add volunteers to our cadre in all areas o

focus and in auditing. If you are interested in joining, email [email protected] for more information.

The aim of the Trustees is to make the new grant model asuser-friendly as possible to clubs and districts.

    ROTARY'S WHEEL EMBLEM

A wheel has been the symbol of Rotary since our earliest days. The first desigwas made by Chicago Rotarian Montague Bear, an engraver who drew a simple wagon wheel, with a few lines to show dust and motion. The wheel wasaid to illustrate "Civilization and Movement." Most of the early clubs had somform of wagon wheel on their publications and letterheads. Finally, in 1922, was decided that all Rotary clubs should adopt a single design as the exclusivemblem of Rotarians. Thus, in 1923, the present gear wheel, with 24 cogs ansix spokes was adopted by the "Rotary International Association." A group oengineers advised that the geared wheel was mechanically unsound anwould not work without a "keyway" in the center of the gear to attach it to power shaft. So, in 1923 the keyway was added and the design which we nowknow was formally adopted as the official Rotary International emblem. http://www.icufr.org/abc/abc01.htm
