Deadline for submission of ads for souvenir program moved

September 15, 2011

To allow more time for members to solicit advertisements, deadline for submission of ads has been moved to SeptemberThe souvenir program will be released on September 30. We uall concerned to help in this fund-raising effort to benefit our cand the community we serve.

Many clubs, by fear of perceived expense difficulties, shy away from forging sisterhood tions with foreign clubs. We do not have to beclubs or clubs endowed with huge resources. club for that matter can enjoy the benefits oenduring and enriching experience, from d

service together, and having fellowship, witforeign club. After all, Rotary is supposed to promote world peace understanding and at the same time making our world a better placlive in. So, what is the better way to experience the internationality

Rotary? Get into a foreign sister club relationship.

How do we get started? The late Louie Lopez, SFDMs charter memand past president started it all with our club. Because of his vast bness dealings in Japan, Singapore, Hawaii and the USA, he saw to it his business partners and acquaintances introduced him to clubs incountries he visited. Rotarians who travel abroad can exert a little effoknow clubs in the places they visit. Professional and alumni reunionsa rich source of getting to know foreign clubs. Only last June 29, 2

we met Rotarian Dolores Bediones from the RC Honolulu SunriseMakati. Her husband is a past president and many of her relatives (sha Panlilio) are Rotarians. She was tasked by her club to check usbecause they want to have their 1st foreign sister club. She said a mber of their club has a friend who attended a high school reunion ofIlocos Norte High School in Laoag, and our Past President Arnold Grero happened to be there and handed out his calling card. The rewards of sisterhood relations should not be limited to opportunfor financial assistance like grants or direct donations. A club grows develops when it builds and nurtures sisterhood relations. Effectiveinteresting international service projects must always be in the mbecause clubs from donor countries are often on the look out for projto fund. But most of all, it is the excitement and enriching experiencesget from joint activities that make all our efforts worth our while. Inpersonal experience, when we were invited to attend the Discon in Jaof D-2480, hosted by our sister club RC Isesaki, whose member TeUshikubo was the District Governor, I was presented among othersDG T Tetsuo, with a special gift. Our member Takahiro Yoshida inpreted for me. DG Tetsuo actually handed me a specially folded pament paper, with colors and strings, unique designs and delicate attments, which is how marriage contracts are presented in Japan. DG suo told me: I should take care of our sisterhood relations like we care of our marriage, and not let the bonds (strings) be detached or ken because it is their intention to keep our relationship an endur

The officers, members, and associate members of

RC Holy Spirit of D3780 wish you to have a pleasant,

educational and enjoyable visit!

On the first day of their visit yesterday, the guests were conducted by

RCHS officers to visit sites for prospective joint community service pro-jects. The first fellowship dinner with them was held after the visits.

The sister club affiliation agreement shall be signed tonight in the pres-

ence of D3780 Gov Jess Cifra.

As announced by Chair Peth Rivera of the Fund Generation Committee ina previous meeting, RCHS will join hands with RC Timog in hosting a golf

tournament on December 9, 2011 at the Philippine Navy Golf Course.RC Timog, a veteran in organizing golf tournaments as fund raisingevents, invited RCHS, a neophyte in this type of project, to co-sponsor theDecember event with them. PE Arni Magpayo of RC Timog came to the

August 24 meeting of RCHS purposely to give an overview on how suchtournaments are organized and conducted including attendant costs in-volved as well as revenues that may be generated. PE Arni announcedthat tournament tickets would be available by the 2 nd week of September.

Also on hand to offer pointers were DGN Francis Rivera and PN TeodyBersola, both from RC Timog,

Chair David Kim of the Sports Committee, a top-notch golfer and pride ofRCHS, will be working closely with PE Arni and his team to ensure thatthe golf tournament turns out to be a success not just as a fund-raiser but

as an opportunity to build close relationships with RC Timog. Proceeds ofthe event will fund the various community service projects of the twoclubs.

North in a medical/dental mission

On September 10, 2011, RCHS will join sister club RC Marikina North, RIDistrict 3800, in a medical/dental mission to be held in Montalban. PresTerry Amado of RCMN sought the assistance of RCHS in augmenting theirsupply of medicines and vitamins for an estimated 500 patients from de-pressed areas in Montalban.

Book-giving project is expanded

RC Holy Spirit turned over 1500 textbooks and various readingmaterials to five (5) public schools in Quezon City last July 3,2011. Each school got about 300 books for their libraries. Thebooks were all donated by SM Foundation Inc through the rep-resentation of Health & Wellness Chair PP Dr Roger Belleza.

SM Foundations Project Manager for Outreach Programs, MrBob Navida, has agreed to expand the project to cover up to100 beneficiary schools in furtherance of the foundations edu-cation & awareness program for the youth which includes,among others, Todays Reader, Tomorrows Leader campaignand free college scholarships.

RCHS has been regularly cooperating with SM Foundation inmedical missions and Christmastime gift-giving for poor families.

Rotary clubs join hands in book-giving project

Forty-eight (48) clubs in District 3780 have joined RC

Holy Spirit and project sponsor SM Foundationto helpensure that books from the foundation are distributed

to needy public schools nominated by the participat-

ing clubs in accordance with their respective literacy

programs.

The books shall be turned over by the SM Foundation

to the clubs and their beneficiary schools at 2 PM on

Friday, September 2nd, at the Don Antonio Heights

Clubhouse in Holy Spirit. Lt. Governor Duke Zuluaga

of RC New Manila East has volunteered the use of his

truck to support RCHS in transferring the goods from

the SM warehouse in Quiapo, Manila.

Day 1 of the visit of the Rotarians from

RI D3650 had been a very busy one,

characterized by fellowship-building ac-

tivities with their host RC Holy Spirit.

In the afternoon, the visiting Rotarians

were conducted to meet officials and

pupils of Dona Juana Elementary School

and the Holy Spirit National High School.These two schools have been suggested

by RC Holy Spirit as focus for joint pro-

jects of the clubs.
