Valerija radi kao sekretarica za produkcijsku kuću u Rimu, gdje će uskoro početi produkcija novog filma čuvenog scenariste Alesandra Pesa. Valerijin šef ne zna da zapravo ona piše Alesandrove scenarije poslednjih 10 godina. Za „njegovo“ najnovije djelo, ona je inspiraciju našla u priči koju joj je ispričao misteriozni stranac o tome kako je Koza nostra ukrala Karavađovu sliku „Hristovo rođenje“.Valeria works as a secretary in a production company in Rome, where the next film from star screenwriter Alessandro Pes will soon go into production. Valeria’s boss doesn’t know that, in reality, she has been writing Alessandro’s screenplays for the past 10 years. For “his” latest work, she is inspired by a story that a mysterious stranger tells her about how Cosa Nostra stole the Caravaggio painting “The Nativity”.

Jedne hladne zimske večeri srednjovječni neženja Seligman nalazi pretučenu djevojku u uličici blizu svoje zgrade. Odvodi je u svoj stan, a ona mu govori da se zove Džo i da je nimfomanka. Dok piju čaj, on pažljivo sluša priče o njenom promiskuitetnom životu. Seligman najviše voli da čita o ribolovu na mušicu; on analizira njenu priču i pravi paralelu između nekih od njenih iskustava i raznih metoda tog sporta.
