Roles and Responsibilities of the Class Teacher (p.10)

Attend training in order to support the SE processDiscuss and clarify expectations Discuss planning with trainee Review planning, responding both to areas of strength

and areas that need further support.During the assessed block, formally observe a lesson

Trainees should have…Lesson Planning: for all lessons taught. Reference to

the Teachers’ Standards should be evident. Use the UW planning format

Self Evaluations: 1 detailed evaluation per day using the critical reflection form, other evaluations can take the form of annotations on lesson plans

During assessed block, 1 formal lesson observation per week (class teacher, lead mentor etc.)

Preliminary Visit Days They MUST have their DBS letter from University with them.They should:• Complete school information sheet • Complete emergency contact information for school office• Obtain copies of the school’s safeguarding, behaviour, health & safety and e-safety policies.• Obtain class timetable, basic pupil details etc.• Planning• Have an idea of arrangements for week 1 of the SE

The School Experience file Organisation of SE file

Section 1 Classroom organisation Staff responsibilities/duties, class list, classroom layouts and groupings.   Section 2 Planning for the current week This should contain a timetable, lesson plans and evaluations for the current

week.   Section 3 Planning for previous weeks Organised chronologically and sub-divided into weeks   Section 4 Assessment

This section should contain evidence of how you have assessed and recorded pupil progress/attainment whilst on School Experience.

Expectations of SE1 Weeks 1 & 2

Work alongside the class teacher, taking groups as required.

 

Gather information on what you need to plan and when you will be teaching during the School Experience block.

 

Discuss and prepare a timetable for your teaching and other responsibilities for the coming week. This could be co-teaching with the class teacher or your partner and can be with a group or whole class as applicable.

 

Find and prepare well in advance the resources that you will need for each lesson or small group activity.

Expectations of SE1 Weeks 1 & 2

Negotiate opportunities for observations/ co-planning/co-teaching with your class teacher /and or your paired partner.

 

Have a Weekly review with your class teacher (use Trainee Progress – Weekly review sheet) complete the form and agree Action Points for the next week using Meeting the Teachers’ Standards Booklet.

 

If collecting data for your PSS negotiate with your class teacher when you plan to do this.

 

Arrange a lesson observation of your teaching during Week 3.

Continue to update your SE files and RP according to this handbook;

 

Co-teach and review (using a Critical Reflection form) at least 1 whole class lesson/session per day with your partner /and or your class teacher

 

Critically reflect on one lesson each day using a Critical Reflection form; this may be a co-taught lesson. Reflect on all other lessons by annotating the plans to inform future planning and assessment, use as evidence for the relevant Teachers’ Standard in your RP.

 

Continue to observe outstanding practice by your class teacher or a teacher in another key stage where possible. Complete the Observation by Trainee Teacher form.

 

Make reflective entries in your RP about what you have learned from your experiences this week.

 

Review the Meeting the Teachers’ Standards Booklet, underline in pencil your achievements so far.

 

Have a Weekly review with your class teacher (use Trainee Progress – Weekly review sheet) review last weeks’ Action points and agree Action Points for the next week, using the Meeting the Teachers’ Standards Booklet.

 

Prepare timetable for teaching lessons/groups for next week with your partner and/or class teacher. Arrange a lesson observation of your teaching for next week.

 

Check that your SE file and RP are up to date, organised and well presented.

UW Tutor VisitTime agreed; tutors should contact the lead

mentor in school to arrange the first visitEach visit should be approximately one and

Mid Point ReviewDuring the mid-point of the School Experience they will meet with you and/or

supervisory tutor to discuss their progress to date and to set further targets for the next few weeks. The school will complete the Mid-Point Review Sheet and it should be kept at the front of your school experience file with a copy emailed to [email protected]. This should arrive at the School Experience office no later than Friday 20th November 2015.

Emerging (E)   4+ Emerging (E) Teachers’ Standards (Targeted Support to be issued by Class Teacher/ Mentor in collaboration with SE Tutor and emailed to UW)

Pass (P) Teachers’ Standards graded at Pass (P) but can feature up to 3

Weeks 5, 6 and 7 Plan and teach at least two lessons per day, 1 should be whole

class (minimum requirement). Your teacher/partner should act as your teaching assistant.

Ensure that you have clear lesson plans using the UW planning format for each group and whole class lessons taught.

Critically reflect on one lesson each day using a Critical Reflection form, focus on one Teachers’ Standard and use as evidence in your RP.

Reflect on all other lesson by annotating the plans to inform future planning and assessment, use as evidence for the relevant Teachers’ Standards in your RP.

Weeks 5, 6 and 7 Continue to support class teacher and take on more responsibility

for the running of the class.  Ensure that all resources and items which have been borrowed

are returned;  Check that all Professional Enquiry Tasks for SE1 have been

completed

Ensure that your SE file and RP are up to date. Your RP should contain evidence for each Teachers’ Standard and Part 2. (You will continue to develop and add evidence in SE2 and SE3.)

Arrange a Post SE-Tutorial with your SE Tutor.

Discuss your School Experience Report with the Class Teacher.

Final SE1 ReportDiscuss the School Experience report with the teacher and /or Lead

Mentor and ensure that, once completed, a copy is emailed to [email protected] by Thursday 10th December 2015. This should be word processed and not sent in a pdf. format. You should also email a copy of their attendance sheet.

Fail - For the identified Teachers’ Standards the trainee’s attainment is not a pass since it contains 4+ Emerging Teachers’ Standards.

Pass - For the identified Teachers’ Standards the trainee’s attainment is Pass but can feature up to 3 Emerging (E) Teachers’ Standards.

What is the purpose of the RP?• The Reflective Portfolio enables them to recordtheir achievement against the Teachers’ Standards. • They are responsible for making regular entries and

gathering appropriate evidence.• It has been slightly adapted in Section 4• Do view this one a week and use it for setting targets.
