LITERATURES
The University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) is strongly attached to the island condition of the Balearics whilst being open to the world.

The UIB offers tools and resources providing students with holistic training solutions resulting in knowledge, values and skills to be acquired in a learning environment in which the University works for and with all, because WE ALL ARE UIB.

The CEP centralises the academic and administrative management of all the official Master’s programmes offered by the University of the Balearic Islands. (http://cep.uib.cat/). It provides support to students, Faculty and Master’s programme academic committees, contributing to the UIB’s gradual adaptation to the requirements of the European Higher Education Area. The CEP also processes admissions for students with foreign degrees. Finally, the CEP also offers grants, bursaries and other funding opportunities to UIB Master’s students.
The CEP currently manages over 30 Master’s programmes, of which some are inter-university, joint or double programmes, offered in cooperation with foreign universities. The UIB Master’s programmes offer internationally-recognised training to some 1,300 students from 30 countries from all around the world, and cover the following branches of knowledge: • Arts and Humanities • Sciences • Health Sciences • Social and Legal Sciences • Engineering and Architecture

TEACHING
Compatibility: different class times are often available, and part-time student status is also offered so that you can combine your studies with your personal or professional life.
Tutorials: tutorials are available for each of the courses you register for. Additionally, you will be assigned your own personal tutor, who will happily provide guidance throughout your stay at the UIB.
Campus Extens, your virtual UIB: this is a flexible, distance-learning tool that uses the latest technology and applies it to university teaching and learning.
Student exchange: The UIB offers a great many student exchange programmes so that you can complement your training at another university.
Find a job: The UIB has its own Department of Vocational Counselling and Employability. It will help you access the labour market.
Languages: The UIB’s Language Centre offers a wide range of modern language courses.
Computer labs and Wi-Fi: 21 computer labs and Wi-Fi are available across the UIB campus.
Hall of residence: if you need accommodation, the UIB offers its own Hall of Residence, which can be found on the Palma campus.
Libraries: UIB students have access to vast bibliographic resources from seven libraries across the UIB campus.
Sports: the UIB fosters a healthy lifestyle on campus. A wide range of fitness and sports activities are available from the UIB’s Sports Centre.
ResearchThe UIB is one of Spain’s Top 5 universities in terms of innovation and technological development. It is also among Spain’s Top 5 in terms of its research output in the field of animal and vegetable biology, and among the world’s Top 10 in tourism research. Its research projects in areas such as chemistry, physics, psychology, geography or urban studies are also highly competitive.
TeachingOur approach to teaching is based not only on the close relationship between lecturers and students but also on the solid training of our Faculty members, thanks to our interdisciplinary teacher training projects.TransferThe UIB is fully aware of its mission to create and disseminate knowledge. Accordingly, it plays an important role in the promotion and creation of business initiatives, including spin-offs, the registration of patents

Get to know some of the UIB’s assets
PAVOL JOZEF ŠAFÁRIK UNIVERSITY IN KOŠICE
The double Master’s degree in Modern Languages and Literatures is taught by specialists from the UIB’s Department of Spanish, Modern and Classical Languages (http://dfemc.uib.cat/), in association with the English and American Studies Department at the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University (UPJŠ) in Košice (Slovakia) (http://kaa.ff.upjs.sk/en/home)
- 1 year degree: two semesters (Winter and Spring)- All classes held in the afternoon / early evening- ECTS load: 60 ECTS credits- All UIB courses have a 5 ECTS credit load
- MA thesis: 10 ECTSStudents in the double MA programme are expected to:• spend the winter semester at the UIB, taking a selection of courses offered in Spanish,
Catalan and English• spend the spring semester at the UPJŠ, taking courses taught in English to be
recognised as UIB elective credits• benefit from MA thesis co-supervision (by UIB and UPJŠ members of Faculty)
Students wishing to benefit from the double MA programme should contact the MA programme coordinator, and inform her of their wish to benefit from this double MA programme prior to or whilst completing their ordinary pre-registration process. Applications will be assessed according to the following criteria:
• the student’s academic record• motivation
With this double MA• you will improve your English language skills• you will take highly specialised courses relating to English Studies• you will have the chance to spend one semester abroad, during which all of the courses
taken abroad will be validated as UIB credits• your MA thesis will be co-supervised by UIB and UPJŠ lecturers• you will be given the chance to learn a new foreign language• you will improve your international skills• you will be more competitive in the labour market• you will be more strongly positioned to pursue a PhD in English

Double degree students will benefit from the possibility of choosing from a wide range of highly-specialised courses at the UPJŠ in the field of English studies, relating to both linguistics and literary and cultu-ral studies, depending on the pathway of their choice. All these courses are taught in English.
