DOUBLE MASTER’S PROGRAMME MODERN LANGUAGES AND LITERATURES The University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) is strongly attached to the island condition of the Balearics whilst being open to the world. We are led by the following principles: quality service provision, cooperation with social actors and business and industry representatives, sustainability and environmentally-friendly practices. We are key to the future and vertebration of the Balearic Islands, because the UIB generates social, cultural and economic progress. The UIB revolves around four axes: (1) to constantly renew and improve our teaching (including distance learning); (2) to consolidate our excellent research; (3) to effectively project ourselves culturally and socially throughout all of the Balearic islands; and (4) to foster the internationalisation of all aspects of university life, including teaching, research, innovation and our administrative services. The UIB offers tools and resources providing students with holistic training solutions resulting in knowledge, values and skills to be acquired in a learning environment in which the University works for and with all, because WE ALL ARE UIB. www.uib.cat The CEP centralises the academic and administrative management of all the official Master’s programmes offered by the University of the Balearic Islands. It provides support to students, Faculty and Master’s programme academic committees, contributing to the UIB’s gradual adaptation to the requirements of the European Higher Education Area. The CEP also processes admissions for students with foreign degrees. Finally, the CEP also offers grants, bursaries and other funding opportunities to UIB Master’s students. The CEP currently manages over 30 Master’s programmes, of which some are inter-university, joint or double programmes, offered in cooperation with foreign universities. The double Master’s degree in Modern Languages and Literatures is taught by specialists from the UIB’s Department of Spanish, Modern and Classical Languages (http://dfemc.uib.cat/), in association with the English and American Studies Department at the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University (UPJŠ) in Košice (Slovakia) (http://kaa.ff.upjs.sk/en/home)

- 1 year degree: two semesters (Winter and Spring)- All classes held in the afternoon / early evening- ECTS load: 60 ECTS credits- All UIB courses have a 5 ECTS credit load

- MA thesis: 10 ECTSStudents in the double MA programme are expected to:• spend the winter semester at the UIB, taking a selection of courses offered in Spanish,

Catalan and English• spend the spring semester at the UPJŠ, taking courses taught in English to be

recognised as UIB elective credits• benefit from MA thesis co-supervision (by UIB and UPJŠ members of Faculty)

Students wishing to benefit from the double MA programme should contact the MA programme coordinator, and inform her of their wish to benefit from this double MA programme prior to or whilst completing their ordinary pre-registration process. Applications will be assessed according to the following criteria:

• the student’s academic record• motivation

With this double MA• you will improve your English language skills• you will take highly specialised courses relating to English Studies• you will have the chance to spend one semester abroad, during which all of the courses

taken abroad will be validated as UIB credits• your MA thesis will be co-supervised by UIB and UPJŠ lecturers• you will be given the chance to learn a new foreign language• you will improve your international skills• you will be more competitive in the labour market• you will be more strongly positioned to pursue a PhD in English
