The Sustainable Business Network of Massachusetts (SBN) was founded in 1988 and is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Cambridge, MA. This September SBN celebrated 30 years of supporting and building local and independent entrepreneur-ship. SBN’s mission to build a Massachusetts economy that is local, green and fair. With nearly 500 locally owned and independent businesses who are members and affiliates, SBN remains the leading organization of sustainable and local business in the state.
SBN organizes and leads the following programs: Boston Local Food, Sustainable Business of the Year Award, Sustainable Business Leader, Local First Networks, SBN Leadership Exchange and the Annual Leadership Conference.
The Sustainable Business Network of Massachusetts is a founding member of the Busi-ness Alliance for Local Living Economies (BALLE) and the New England Local Business Forum (NELBF), and is proudly affiliated with the American Independent Business Alliance (AMIBA).
About SBN’s Local Food ProgramThe Boston Local Food Program strives to grow a sustainable local food system while providing healthy local food for all. SBN defines local as sourcing ingredients as close to home in Boston, then stretching through Massachusetts and New England. SBN collaborates with local businesses, nonprofits, government agencies and individuals to achieve these goals.
Through programs, events and educational outreach, the Boston Local Food program builds connections between eaters, local farms, fisheries, food producers, distributors, restaurants, retail food businesses, government agencies and nonprofit organizations - with a core interest in supporting locally owned independent food businesses.
