►Session description This session will provide you with an introduction to ICEF’s agent training courses as well as its agency recognition programme:

• The ICEF Agent Training Course (IATC) is a practical, professional training course developed by ICEF for education agency-based student counsellors. The course is available online and free of charge to agency student counsellors in a self-paced modular format

• The Canada Course for Education Agents (CCEA) was created by the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada (DFATD) in cooperation with ICEF and the Canadian Consortium for International Education (CCIE). The course supports professional development for agents specialising in Canada

• The USA Agent Training Course (USATC) is designed for international education agents working with American schools, universities, and colleges to recruit international students, and is aimed at increasing agents’ knowledge and standards of practice in their work with both institutions and students

• The ICEF Agent Status (IAS) is recognised as an indicator of agent quality, showing that an agent has been successfully vetted for, and participated in, ICEF Workshops. The IAS is renewed through ongoing quality assurance screening and reference checks

Educators and service providers are welcome to join the session.

Presently there are over 130,000 international students in Malaysian higher educational institutions - over 10% of the total student population there. This is expected to grow to 200,000 international students by 2020.

The seminar will give agents information on the advantages of education in the Czech Republic, an overview of its state Universities and their strongest programmes, career perspectives for students and an up-to-date information on country-specific requirements for visa applications.

The Czech Republic offers all international students quality higher education free of charge. The Czech Republic is in the heart of Europe and its Bachelors and Masters degrees are recognised worldwide. While all these facts might be attractive to students, they might look like a disadvantage for agents. However there are good options for a fruitful commission-based recruitment model we will share with you.

Part of the seminar will be devoted to new opportunities that the Czech Republic now offers to international students, for example double award/double degree programmes in English language at Czech State Universities, sports programmes or professional internships at State Universities and the Czech Association of Hotels and Restaurants.

Natalya Ravdina works for the British Council as Business Development Manager Europe for Services for International Education Marketing, a global programme to support UK Education institutions in their international work.

Natalya joined the British Council in 2009 as Head of Education in Russia and moved to her current post in 2012. Previously, Natalya was a university lecturer and Vice-Dean for the faculty, during which time she completed her PhD studies in English Philology.

Natalya’s current area of responsibility is strategic business development of SIEM services in the diverse region of Europe, encompassing 14 markets in the EU and further East.

Educated in the US and in Europe, Ksenia has more than 10 years of experience in managing various projects in Higher Education within the Soros Foundation’s International Higher Education Programme, Nuffic (Netherlands Organisation for International Cooperation in Higher Education), Higher Education and Research Division of the Council of Europe, her own education agency and since January 2014 - the Russian Scholarship Programme “Global Education” (GEP).

Currently Ksenia is responsible for GEP grantees recruitment to 288 leading foreign universities and programmes in 32 countries (top 300 in QS, THE and ARWU university and subject rankings). She develops appropriate marketing strategies and tools; supports initiatives at fairs, forums, workshops and SMM.

►Session description In the seminar you will be given information about the challenges of the current situation in the foreign education sector in Russia, faced by both the Russian agents and educational providers. The presentation is given by Anna Ryzhova, board member of the Association of Russian Education Advisors (AREA), whose personal experience in the field of international education includes sixteen years as an agency owner in Russia and in Canada.

Ms. Ryzhova is a graduate of professional training programmes - IATC and the Canada Course, as well as a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC). In the years from 1999-2001 she was a Research Officer at the Russian Academy of Science and the Institute of Complex Social Researches. In the year of 2003 Ms. Ryzhova was granted a PhD Degree in the field of Foreign Economy (Russian Academy of Economics, named after G. V. Plekhanov).

►Session description In order to help a student choose a study programme in Canada, agents often have to provide comprehensive information to their clients about the student’s career and job prospects after graduation as well as co-op, work and internship opportunities during the study period.

Learn about the latest labor market trends, statistics, salaries and types of employment in Canada, sources for agents to search employment rates of particular programmes, cultural challenges and job search difficulties for international applicants, existing immigration opportunities through employment (in general), employers expectations, credential evaluations, regulated professions, practical situations, etc.

The information will be mostly based on the province of Ontario, as in Canada it can be slightly different from province to province.

Mr. Arkadiy Zhidelev, Marketing and Education Advisor at Fanshawe College offering over 200 programmes in Canada for international students including around 50 programmes with co-op, internship and field placement that lead to officially one of the highest employment rates among the colleges in Ontario.

Arkadiy was trained in Innovation & Strategy at Harvard University, in Sales Management at the University of Toronto and completed his degrees in Moscow and St. Petersburg. In 2001, Arkadiy started his journey as an international language student in Germany and then as a student recruiter. After he had worked for a Russian agency, Arkadiy took English language programmes in Canada and a certificate programme to start his career in Canada in 2009 in a student internship placement agency. Later, Arkadiy got a Marketing Associate position for a career college in Toronto and for a network of language schools before he was offered to join the International Centre of Fanshawe College over two years ago.

Mr. Zhidelev is familiar with the labor market in Canada and in particular in Ontario as a student recruiter, as a former student in Canada, as an internship consultant and as an immigrant in Canada who is an employee as well.

Ali Israfilov has studied for his Higher Education in the UK and in Germany and has been involved in the student recruitment and consulting business since 2009.

Being himself a student abroad gave him the opportunity to understand the needs and expectations, what parents are looking for, what students will gain while studying abroad. He is a real life example for students who would like to study overseas. With his 7 years of marketing experience in Azerbaijan he will share his predictions and suggestions with educators on how to find ways to increase student numbers from Azerbaijan.

Liliya Issina, Director of Studies, Langberry, Kazakhstan

Liliya has been in the education abroad business since 2007 when she joined Langberry - the biggest Kazakhstani school network and agency with 27 schools in Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan.

In the early 2000s Langberry was the first local company to offer IELTS and TOEFL preparation in Kazakhstani regions which gave a chance to hundreds of bright candidates to apply for the government scholarship to study abroad in the world's best universities.

Liliya started by recruiting local students from Eastern and Northern Kazakhstan to international educational institutions. At the moment she is responsible for the agency offices in Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan. Her duties have expanded from supervising teaching English in Langberry schools to general executive functions in Kazakhstan.

Gulshirin is working as an Education Abroad Manager at Kyrgyz Concept since 2010 and manages the service since 2013. By now there are 8 education counsellors, sending students to the main destinations of the US, UK, Europe and Canada. Gulshirin holds a Bachelor Degree in International Economics from a Slavic University.

She will give an overview of the education market and its characteristics in Kyrgyzstan and its main recruitment trends for study abroad programmes, including high school, higher education and language programmes.

Kuanish Berdimuratov, Business Development Director,

Education Standard Consulting Group, Uzbekistan

Kuanish Berdimuratov holds a Bachelor’s degree in Jurisprudence and a Master’s degree in Civil Law, Family Law, Civil Procedure and International Law from the Karakalpac State University.

Kuanish took a six month English course in Malaysia. Furthermore, he successfully passed a business course in Australia.

Kuanish is a valued member of Education Standard Consulting Group since 2011. Currently he holds the position of Business Development Director.
