Our Lady, Mother of the Church Mission Statement We, the members of Our Lady, Mother of the Church, are drawn together through baptism as a part of the Body of Christ. We are a caring Catholic community, working together as instruments through which Jesus, our risen Lord and Head, continues His mission. Linked to Christ as His Body, we believe that the risen Jesus still proclaims God’s word, gives thanks and praise, welcomes, nurtures, comforts and reaches out to all people. Using the hands and hearts of the members of the parish, with a growing sense that each of us is gifted and has an important part to play in our Parish, Church and World, we renew our call: ♦ to be a Parish diligent about Word and Eucharist, the primary source of our nourishment and spiritual growth... ♦ to be “missioned” - sent forth in the person of Jesus, to bring His Word and Eucharist to family, friends, neighbors and workplace... ♦ to reach out to the sick, the homebound, the persecuted, the lonely, the poor and the bereaved… ♦ to find time to share laughter, joy, friendship, at times, tears; and always to share the goodness of each other...
Dear Sisters & Brothers in Christ, We enjoyed the Easter Season and we would keep it forever if we could, but Je-sus tells us that now it is our turn. He is to ascend into heavenly glory; all His mission is entrusted to the disciples. “Go into the whole world! And I will be with you.” We say that today the Church is in crisis. In fact, Jesus’ Church is good; people of the Church are in crisis. Jesus says:
“Remain in me, as I remain in you. Just as a branch cannot bear fruit on its own unless it remains on the vine, so neither can you unless you remain in me. I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit, because without me you can do nothing.” (Jn 15:4-5)
We need to reconnect to Jesus. We can have great structures and polices, but without the presence of Jesus’ Spirit there is no life. The last weeks of the Easter Season refreshed our eagerness to accept the Spirit of truth, the Spirit of wisdom, the Spirit of awe of God into our hearts and into the life of the community of faith. At the end of Easter Season, we are at the beginning of the Church – Jesus’ disci-ples were converted from the fearful men gathered in the locked room into apostles proclaiming Good News of the resurrection to all – to the Jews, and the gentiles; to their neighbors, and to those across the sea.
On one of our deanery meetings it was said, “youth treat sacra-ments like a graduation – I’ve graduated, I’m done with the school; I’ve got my Confirmation, I’m done with the Church; I’ve got my First Communion, I’m done with the Eucharist”. Actually, our sacraments of initiation are just the beginning; at this point we are at the starting line – ready to race for the reward. Let us reig-nite the flame of Jesus’ Spirit in our hearts as we come closer and closer to the day of Pentecost. Have a good and blessed Memorial Day Weekend! Fr. Andrew

Rectory Offices will be closed on Monday, May 27th for the Memorial Day Holiday. Offices will reopen on Tuesday, May 28th at 9 am.
Sign Up for Eucharistic Adoration
Next weekend there will be a sign-up sheet in the narthex for Eucharistic Adoration on First Friday, June 7, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Half-hour time slots are available, and there is prayer in Polish from 1 to 2 p.m., with the Divine Mercy Chaplet beginning at the hour of great mercy, 3 p.m., followed by Benediction. Pope Saint John Paul II wrote in his encyc-lical letter Ecclesia de Eucharistia, from en-try 25, “It is pleasant to spend time with him, to lie close to his breast like the Be-loved Disciple (cf. John 13:25) and to feel the infinite love present in his heart. If in our time Christians must be distinguished above all by the ‘art of prayer’, how can we not feel a renewed need to spend time in spiritual converse, in silent adoration, in heartfelt love before Christ present in the Most Holy Sacrament? How often, dear brothers and sisters, have I experienced this, and drawn from it strength, consola-tion and support!”

This Friday, May 31, is the Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and the Visitation is the second joyful mystery of the rosary. So this Friday, you may reflect on the joyful mysteries of the rosary instead of the sorrowful mysteries. The Directory on Popular Piety and the Liturgy from the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments in 2001 addresses this exception, “. . . conflict can arise between the content of the mysteries and that of the Liturgy of the day: the recitation of the sorrowful mysteries on Christmas day, should it fall on a Friday. In cases such as this it can be reckoned that ‘the liturgical character of a given day takes precedence over the usual assignment of a mystery of the rosary to a given day; the rosary is such that, on particular days, it can appropriately sub-stitute meditation on a mystery so as to harmonize this pious practice with the litur-gical season.’ Hence, the faithful act correctly when, for example, they contem-plate the arrival of the three Kings on the Solemnity of the Epiphany, rather than the finding of Jesus in the Temple. Clearly, such substitutions can only take place after much careful thought, adherence to Sacred Scripture and liturgical propriety.” Because we will be celebrating the Visitation this week, when Mary, pregnant with Our Lord Jesus Christ, visits Elizabeth, who is pregnant with John the Baptist, let us pray our rosaries this week for the intention of the health and safety of pregnant women and their unborn babies. If you would like to pray the rosary for our weekly intention, please call the rectory at 1-773-625-3369 or e-mail [email protected] We will include in the bulletin the intention for the week, and the first names and initials of the last names of people who say they will pray the rosary for our intention each week.
