Example for order:Rubber-Metal-Gasket KLINGER®KGSmade of NBR according toDIN EN 1514-1, Form IBCDN 100, PN 10 -16

The gaskets are made ofNR = Vulcanisates of natural rubber(SBR), NBR (Nitril rubber), EPDM(Ethylen-Propylen rubber),CSM/ Hypalon (chlorosul-fonatedpolyethylene) and FKM = Viton(Fluoro elastomere) every with insidevulcanised steel ring.

The NBR-type is approved byDVGW and recommended accordingto KTW (potable water application).

Dimension in DIN EN 1514-1(replaces DIN 2690 ) for the pressureratings PN 6 to PN 40.

KLINGER®KGSMounting instructions

On principle following mountinginstructions for KLINGER®KGSmaterial have to be taken in account.

1. Selection of the gasketThe suitable type of gasket materialcan be selected according theKLINGER information – first of all thechemical resistance.

2. The FlangesFlanges should be parallel, metalli-cally clean and dry, the gasket has tobe mounted centrically.

Please pay attention to thecorrect inner- and outer diameter, never the gaskets should tower intothe throughhole!

The outer diameter of the KGS-gasket is adapted to the bolt circle ofthe flange. Therefore a safe centeringis insured by the bolts.

3. The mounting of the gasketThe mounting of the gasket should beperformed without any grease- or oil-containing separating media.

On no account oil or greasecontaining products may be used,as they have an negative influence onthe safety of the complete flangeconnection.

4. The BoltsDuring installation the bolts have to betightened in several steps, equal andcrosswise.

The screws should be greased ifpossible.

5. Re-tighten"Re-tighten" is usually not necessaryif a.m. references will be followed.

6."Multi-use" of a gasketTo use a gasket more than one timecan not be recommended.

If there is an demand on advice pleasecontact a KLINGER company or anrepresentative.

Vulkanized rubber mixture, lens-form with moldedspear tip (cross-sections view) at the inner rim, rounded at the edges. This shape offers more safetyagainst corrosion instead of an inner moldedO-ring. Also very good applicable at flanges madeof thermoplastic material. Vulcanized steel ringinside, therefore good reception of the surface load.Outer diameter self centering at the inner bolt cicle.

Safe sealing of water, gas, air, acids, lyes andhydrocarbons with low sealing forces attemperatures up to 200° C, depending on theelastomer type. Very good sealing at flangeunevenness, pipeline constructions for gas andwater, at rubber coated or glass-lined flanges aswell as for plastic apparatus due to the necessarylow sealing forces.

The result:Inexact assembly and higher costs.Complicated handling of these metalelements in tight spaces producesuncertainty during the installation andincreases the risk of leaks.

Patented sealThis special design allows the newseal to act as simple and economicsealing for obliquely positionedflanges. Elaborate and thus expensivestructural measures can thereby beavoided.

Oblique positions can beinfinitely aligned up to approx. 8°,vertically or horizontally.

Simple application for obliquelypositioned flangesOblique positions occur with all flangeconnections. Especially undergroundpipes with regulating wedges andflanges, e.g. for hydrants and fittings, cannot always be routed in a straightline.

No wedge disks and additionalsealsThe new adjustable seal replaces, simply and very economically, thesteel or cast iron wedge disksfrequently used so far. These heavywedge disks, elaborately installed, even require two additional seals.

Adjustable up to approx.8°

Thepatented, variable seal consists of twointerlockingparts connected througha tongueandgroove joint. This allows the twowedge-shapedparts to be turnedagainst eachotherup to anangleof approx. 8°. After installation, these twoparts forma "medium-tight" bond.

KLINGER®KGS/VDMounting instruction

for the adjustable gasketWhat offersthe adjustable gasket? The adjustable gasket type KGS/VDconsists of 2 half sealing discs with4° angle sealing area which areconnected by a inner tongue andgroove.

Therefore the two discs of theKGS/VD easily can be twisted againsteach other up to an angle of 8°.

Specially at not parallel sealingareas of flanges a normal gasket isnot able to secure the required tight-ness.

The KLINGER KGS/VD can beused for liquid media (see chemicalresistance table). The gasket is notdesigned for gaseous media.

By placing the bolts into the boltholes of the flange, the gasket will beautomatically centred.

The bolts at the lowest thicknessof the KGS/VD are placed at first andfixed only by handforce.

When all bolts are placed, thetightening starts.

Also here the beginning is at thelowest thickness.

Tightening should be clockwiseand not crosswise.

Usually after 3 circulations thegasket is correctly installed and insafe function.

Too high torque at the bolts candamage the gasket. Please consider torques forrubber gaskets according techni-cal literature.

How the adjustable gasket shouldbe installed?By twisting the two parts againsteach other the sealing areas of theKGS/VD are adapted to the angle ofthe missaligned flanges.

Then the KLINGER KGS/VD willbe placed between the flanges as anormal gasket.

The mounting personnel has tosecure that the angle of the gasketwill fit to the angle of the flanges.Signs at the outer rim of the gasketfacilitate the correct adjustment.
