Presidents ReportThe late change of speaker last week meant that Chia Tiangreplaced ABC presenter Mairi Nicolson and we were advisedthat Chias presentation may be slightly controversial.
Controversy is fine provided it is not used (by a Rotarian) aspart of what was an interesting discussion on the ageing de-mographic, as an opportunity to promote what appears to bea product range sold though multi level marketing. Conse-
quently there will be no further reference to any matter pre-sented by this speaker in this newsletter and this matter willbe taken further.
On a lighter note, Lucy Liu(Rotary Club of Dock-lands) advised that thefamous classical Chinesedance company, ShenYun will again be perform-ing at the State Theatreduring March.
Lucy, together with visitors John Sime, Chris Mara, RewaJones and Shirley Mirams helped to make up a healthy at-tendance on the evening.
Susan De Bolfo, who has done a great job since taking overthe difficult Fundraising portfolio from Harry Roberts 15months ago, has asked to be relieved of this position due topersonal issues.
Adrian Culshaw will take over as Fundraising Director effec-tive immediately and Im sure Adrian will get full support fromall members when volunteers are needed. Im also pleasedto advise that Chris DArcy will assume responsibility for Com-
munity. Thank you to both Adrian and Chris.

Rotary Fellowship Peace ApplicationWhat is the Rotary Peace Fellowship?
The Rotary Peace Fellowship is the premier academicscholarship of The Rotary Foundation and supports Ro-tarys mission to empower, educate, and increase thecapacity of peace builders through rigorous academictraining, practice, and global networking opportunities.Through this experience, Rotary Peace Fellows build theskills needed to act as leaders and catalysts for peaceand conflict resolution both in their communities andaround the globe.
The fellowship is intended for individuals who have cho-sen a career related to international relations, peace, andconflict resolution; who have work experience in theseareas; and who have a commitment to community or in-ternational humanitarian service and working for peace.

RCOB Facebook Page and Rotarys109th Birthday
Those of you who are on Facebook have noticed a flurryof activity on the official RCOB Facebook page in the lastweek. This is because your CC wallah has finally gottenaround to sorting out all the myriad of settings checks toensure that the Page is set up in the way we actuallywant it to work.
Critical in this is that you do not have to be a Facebookmember to view our Page and nor does any member ofthe public. The intent is that it is an open window onwhat RCOB is; our culture and our activities.
Therefore it is crucial that we continue to feed timely,quality content on to the Page which represents the bestof RCOB and Rotary generally. To this end I have givenPosting privileges to all the RCOB Friends and urgeyou all to post material which you believe meets this end.I will also continue to seek out material within the Club,District and RI for this same purpose.
I urge you all to visit our Page at;
https://www.facebook.com/beaumarisrotary
Please let me have your Feedback.
As we build the content and quality of the site over timewe will begin to explore how we can explore using it to
provide greater value for the Club.
Fortuitously, the site was up and running in time for Rota-rys 109th birthday and this provide a wealth of mediamaterial. Some of which I have shared on our site. Theimage on the top right hand page links through to a smallarchive of historic photos through Rotarys history (butonly on our FB page!). There are many more interestingimages and links in the RI FB Page. You will find a linkto this by exploring the RCOB Page.

Over the previous weeks we have had articles in In Gearabout two of the well established community groups inthis region; the Beaumaris Theatre Group and the SandyBeach Centre. Both of them were pioneered by visionary
couples who might night have seen at the outset howtheir offspring would grow over the decades.
It is not often that the gestation of a new communitygroup is spearheaded by an RCOB member and that itsearly success has been so instantaneous that its futureseems guaranteed. That is certainly the case with theBayside U3A and its inaugural President David Hone.
The Bayside U3A has only just finished the first year ofIncorporation but has already signed up over 700 mem-bers and is still growing strongly. This compares to theaverage number of members in such groups in Victoria
which is less than 300.
The activities of the Bayside U3A encompass a widerange of courses, a monthly speaker program and socialoutings (often in conjunction with local Probus clubs).
In addition to participation in courses or other activitiesthere are ample opportunities to participate in the U3A asa Tutor, or Volunteer. The organisation needs upwardsof 80 people to run all the various activities and like allorganisations are always looking for volunteers.
The breadth of courses offered can be seen below;
