PLATE REGSTRAR’S REPORT - Alan reports that everything is up to date with Registrations.

He also informs us that TAFE will resume Wednesday 4th

February at 6pm. Some good news – the

fees will not go up this year but stay the same as they were at $100 for 18 weeks or $15 per single

night..

Dean Hefren, who has taught at the TAFE, has always been the stand in for Alan, if he has a night

off, and now that he has left the TAFE he can still be Alan’s stand in.

Alan will look after the Anzac Parade.

EDITOR’S REPORT - He would like all reports for the March Magazine, within the next 2

weeks .

Ken read out all coming events.

EVENTS CO-ORDINATOR’S REPORT – Betsy asked if any members were interested in

going to the Flower festival at Bilpin or the Canowindra Balloon Challenge – There were no takers.

The South West Slopes get together at Temora was well received with 12 places for lunch to be

booked.

CLUB CAPTAIN’S REPORT : Paul reported that he had sent his first card out this month – to

Sylvia Milnes who has had a stint in hospital – Good Luck Sylvia.

WEB MASTER’S : No report this month as John wasn’t at meeting..

GENERAL BUSINESS :

Run for Robert Bradly – Doug has spoken with Miriam and she is happy to have the run – it will

be a one off run only. She suggested we have a run to Binalong and lunch in the hotel. This was

moved by Paul Andreatta and seconded by Alan Thompson – carried. John Collins suggested that

we have this on Sunday 17th

May 2015, which is Heritage Day for Clubs, so this will be discussed

with Miriam and a decision made.

Harden Bowling Club has decided to impose a $20. fee for the use of the Club for our meeting.

Moved by Malcolm Chaplin that we accept this change and Seconded by Ken Harrison – Carried

Don’t forget our March meeting is at Harden and we also have to be out of the hall by 9.30pm.

The CHMC letter was about a meeting at Wagga discussing the introduction of M Registration for

Historic Clubs, to allow a degree of modification to be allowed in Historic clubs . The tone of the

meeting was that surely a separate club would have to be formed for modified cars. There was also

some discussion on changing NSW Historic Rego to same as Victoria – this was also not a popular

choice.

John Simpfendorfer was saying he heard that the Police in Victoria are pulling up Historic cars at

any time to check them over.

Tonight we have two people to vote for, to be elected into our club – they are Brian Ridge and

Geoff Boyd . The election was proceeded with and both were unanimously voted in to our club.

Welcome aboard to you both.

Our Club Captain, Paul Andreatta then presented the monthly awards – Barbara Armour won the

Mug for her good deed and Betsy received the foot in mouth award.

Ken closed the meeting at 9.10pm and we all adjourned for a lovely supper.

Next month’s Meeting is at Harden and don’t forget that you can have dinner in the Bowling Club,

before the meeting, if you wish.

FEBRUARY ACTIVITY REPORT:

Ken has stripped his 1952 Mk V11 JAGUAR

down to its last nut and bolt.

Ken, John, Ken, Graham and Alan

(and John Simp. behind the camera),

examine the cleaned-up chassis,

and are quite impressed .

PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Hello again everyone , a month has come and gone already.

January was fairly quiet, with everyone still recovering from the “Christmas Season” .

Our New Year’s Day run to Tim & Ting’s was a great success with a very good turn up, but we all

have to wonder about Kevin White. While he was wandering around Tim’s yard (in the dark) he

tripped on a tree root and down he went. I think it was only the pride that was hurt - keep the eyes

open Kevin.

The Australia Day Celebrations in Jubilee Park, which was put on by the Cootamundra Council,

went off very well with all the awards given to very worthy people from the district.

We were invited to display our cars, and what a very nice line up they made, and the Beacon Street

Band with our member, Alan Thompson on the Guitar and the Singing, put on their usual great

performance.

The sun was shining it was a beautiful day, so some of CAMC members continued on to Wombat

for a very nice afternoon.

Sunday 1st February saw us at Jugiong for the Michael Livingstone Memorial Run and our Club’s

35th

Birthday Celebrations at that beautiful Park – how comfortable being under those big old Shade

Trees with a lovely picnic and good company.

There was a great turn up, with 10 clubs from throughout the surrounding areas and quite a few

visitors – even one young fellow from Ballina .

The year is really starting to fly on, with our Film & Pizza Night on Saturday 7th

February –

Wednesday night TAFE has started back and the Boys are enjoying that.

There are 12 of us going to the Kalimna Rally at Cobram on Friday 27th

February .

Don’t forget March Meeting is at Harden - please let Sue or Peter McCarthy know if you would

like to have dinner at the club before the meeting.- McCarthy’s Phone number is on the back of the

Magazine, in Coming Events.

March has plenty of runs to attend so please bring out your car and join us.

Hopefully by the end of March the container will be in place at the Showground, ready for the

switch from John’s garage.

Tubby’s Story

In 2012 our father was diagnosed with liver cancer and after only a short time of 6 weeks he passed away. I was

overwhelmed by the support I received from the Cancer Council without any engagement on my behalf.

Therefore in 2013 my sister (Jessica Holder) and I created a charity event to raise money and awareness about

Liver Cancer. This event was held in my father’s hometown of Cootamundra where a motorcycle ride was

organised to celebrate and raise money.

I am seeking your support by participating by bringing some of your beautiful vehicles and putting them on

display at the Country Club Oval.

Sincerely.

DAMIEN HOLDER

PAST EVENTS

AUSTRALIA DAY

Cootamundra’s Breakfast in The Park

The 1st Cootamundra Breakfast in The Park was organised under the direction of Michael Livingstone,

Chairman of the Cootamundra Bi-Centenary Committee in1988.

So, of course Michael made the function feature our Heritage Vehicles.

And this tradition continues in Cootamundra at each year’s Australia Day Celebrations.

Our Heritage Vehicles Display was improved this year with the addition of two horse drawn

sulkies:

KEN HARRIS & SULKY Ken Trethewey’s XK140 and Geoff Armour’s Beetle

Keith Smith displayed a race-car that campaigned at Cootamundra’s Meemar Race-track in 1962.

It was built under the instructions of Les Trim of Trim’s Menswear.

In those days to compete in the under-1000 ccs events mechanics used motorbike engines, but the

Trim Special was impressive with a Ford ANGLIA engine.

It’s quite an historic relic from the days when the local mechanics built their own race-cars:

Brian Manwaring and Alan Carr

Birthday Celebrations

What a beautiful day, the sun was shining but it didn’t get too hot. Under the big shady trees in the Park

at Jugiong it was so relaxing, quite the best place for a picnic and a swim.

A few of us left Coota at 9am for the drive across to Jugiong – some went the scenic route & others

went via the Hume Highway.

On arrival we found a few more had arrived earlier, so they could get a good spot to park and to picnic.

We all parked our table & chairs together – had a cuppa and began to enjoy a chat.

While sitting there, we watched the car park fill up; and as more club cars arrived they had to park

under the big trees in the Recreation Grounds. Page 9

Page 10: HOT OFF THE PRES’cootamundraantiquemotorclub.org/cootahoota/cootahoota201503.pdf · MARCH 2015 Dedicated to the restoration and preservation of Historic Vehicles Gwen Livingstone

Cootamundra Restorers Club – Mid West Historic Motor Club –

Gundagai Antique Motor Club – Model A Restorers Club of Canberra –

Canberra Antique & Classic Motor Club - Gunning Club

Cowra Club. And also a visitor from Sydney, and one from Ballina.

Thank you all for coming and making it a great day.

It was very nice to see Miriam Bradly there to celebrate with us and we hope to see you at other outings.

After eating our lunch, came the cutting of the cake, at which our new president Ken Harrison was MC.

Gwen & Michael’s grandchildren cut the cake.

And what a beautiful cake – a big thank you to Robyn Absolon for her generosity.

After this there was cake to eat and then people started to dwindle home, but as usual the Collinses and

the Harrisons stayed enjoying the shade and talking for quite a while until there was nobody left .

Attendees from our Club were –

Lynn & Barry Gavin in 2 Toranas – Ted & Joan Strachan with their Valiant Galant

John & Joan Collins – VW - Russell Cope and Margaret Pestell in a CHRYSLER by Chrysler

Alex & Lyn Joss in their Subaru – Allan & Jill Thompson with the Studebaker Convertable –

Doug Wright & 2 Friends in his Fairlaine – Geoff & Barbara Armour in their VW –

Geoff Boyd & Debbie Stokes with their 203 Peugeot -- John & Wendy Rickett in their Riley –

Malcolm & Lin Chaplin driving their Mk V Jaguar -- Ken & Betsy Harrison with their Humber.

The 30th

ANNIVERSARY DINNER of Temora Antique Motor Club was held

at the Temora Ex-Services Club, Saturday 14 February, 2015, featuring table decorations and slides of Past Events

I was invited to attend because I was around at that time when Temora Club was started.

From past Newsletters I can dig up some history about the start of Temora Antique Motor Club:

Wagga V & V Motor Club was started in 1966.

Cootamundra Antique & Classic Motor Club -- 1967.

Young V & V & Post-Vintage Motor Club -- 1972.

Gundagai Antique Motor Club -- 1976. And Cootamundra Antique Motor Club was started in 1980.

Temora Antique Motor Club was started in 1984.

Before 1984 Temora people interested in old cars had joined Cootamundra and Young Clubs.

From Temora district, listed with Cootamundra or Young clubs were:

John Ballard who was listed as having a 1926 Douglas motorbike, and he was restoring a 1929 Pontiac.

Ron Maslin had a 1936 Chevrolet.

Wes Maxwell had a 1927 Chrysler 4.

Gordon McGeorge was restoring a 1925 Hudson.

Allen Penfold often visited other clubs in a 1955 Customline.

Peter Catlin had a 1942 Harley Davidson.

Brett Harpley had a 1923 Douglas.

Frank Mulcahy was restoring a 1921 FIAT.

Jack Weston had a 1926 Overland-Whippet, and a dozen motorbikes.

Bill Callaghan had a 1924 Douglas and a Model T Ford.

Michael Livingstone reported at Cootamundra Club’s July Meeting in 1984 that he was helping in the formation of a new

club at Temora.

He said there were 25 interested people at the Inaugural Meeting.

Their first get-together was to be 19th August at Springdale Recreation Park.

Other clubs are invited. So Michael encouraged Cootamundra Club to attend and support the new club.

Michael Livingstone reported in the September newsletter that at the gathering at Springdale on the 19th August 1984 was a

great success. Club representatives from Cootamundra, Gundagai, Young and the Engine Society were present at Temora

Club’s first run.

Despite it being a wet, miserable day – a big gathering of 35 cars turned up at Springdale. Michael wondered how many

would have turned up on a fine day.

It was recorded in the Young Club’s newsletter that at Temora Club’s Springdale event, Gundagai Antique Motor Club was

represented by its President, Lew Jonas, in a 1937 Pontiac and someone else in a 1949 Hudson.

I was the Editor of Young Club’s newsletter at the time. I cheekily claimed that Young Club was represented by Ron and

Nell Maslin in a 1936 Chevrolet. The cheek being that Ron Maslin was a well-established Temora identity but Ron had paid

a membership subscription to the Young Veteran, Vintage & Post-Vintage Motor Club, so he was a Young Club rep.

Also from Young to the Springdale Event was Jeff Nye in a 1936 Dodge,

Steve Rickett in a 1937 Morris 6,

Geoff Charlesworth in a 1934 Ford coupe, Cam Thackeray in a 1955 Jaguar,

Alvin Houghton drove from Cowra in a 1960 Chevrolet

and Kevin White in his 1954 Vauxhall Vagabond.

Cootamundra Club had plenty of representatives, too. Joan and I went to Springdale in a 1948 Plymouth. I can remember

that, but the attendees from Cootamundra were not recorded so I can’t give them credit.

And it was reported that from Temora, Peter Catlin and Brett Harpley set out on their motorbikes.

But Brett’s Douglas was spluttering from ice forming in the inlet manifold, so that put an end to the Douglas making it to

Springdale.

Brett Harpley arrived at Springdale in the sidecar of Peter Catlin’s Harley Davidson.

From that auspicious day in 1984, 30 years later, Temora Antique Motor Club has grown to a membership of over 70.
