Our staff are very much looking forward to the next sessions. Thank you to Mrs Johnston and her team for outstanding organisation to allow such a smooth process. 2020 Review

In order to improve our practice, we need to continually receive and reflect upon feedback. Over the past few weeks I have spent time discussing our 2020 learning model with parents, students and staff. Many valuable insights have been gained on where we are doing well and where we can improve. I really appreciate the effort of the parents who made themselves available for the parent focus group. A survey will be distributed to all parents to allow you all to provide feedback on particular key areas. I encourage everyone to complete the survey. NAIDOC Week 2020

This week we have celebrated NAIDOC Week across the school in a variety of ways. All classes participated in library lessons that highlighted the achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples including local author/illustrator Jasmine Seymour.

Finally, a special message from our good friend, Dr Len Smith, came through this week wishing everyone in the North Kellyville Public School community a happy NAIDOC Week. As a Biripi man from the mid-North Coast of NSW he has a close connection to country and is an extremely talented artist. He is also a returned veteran of the Australian Army and a valued member of the Castle Hill RSL sub-branch, attending as an official guest at our inaugural ANZAC day and Remembrance Day services in 2019. Below is a photo of Dr Smith with Mr Moth after they unveiled our ANZAC Memorial Stone at last year’s Remembrance Day service.

Remembrance Day

This year we held a short service online via Teams, similar to our regular weekly assemblies. Hunter and Mateen ran the service and paid homage to the fallen soldiers from Australia across the many conflicts and peace-keeping missions in which we have been involved. Students participated in library lessons last

week that gave them a greater understanding of what Remembrance Day is all about. Many students made poppies as a symbol of remembrance.

Our Memorial stone is now featured on the Australian War Memorial’s site ‘Places of Pride’. Check it out sometime.

Road Works

Thank you to the vast majority of parents and community members who have been patient and are following the correct road rules to ensure our students safety. It has been great to see a number of people opting to “park & walk”. Key points to remember:

• No kiss and drop facility on Hezlett Road during construction.

• A temporary kiss and drop facility will be installed on Hipwell Avenue however capacity will be much lower than the current kiss and drop. Parents are advised to think carefully about whether kiss and drop is the safest form of drop off and pick up. Parents who must drive are asked to consider parking and walking into and out of the school.

• Pedestrian access via Hezlett Road will be maintained.

• Hipwell Avenue has double lines, if you are caught doing a u-turn over double lines in a school zone it is a $457 fine and 4 demerit points.

• Please ensure vehicles exit the kiss & drop and drive to the end of Hipwell Ave and use the turning circle.

Selective High School - 2022

All students in year 5 received an “intention to apply” form at the end of last term which is required to be filled out and returned to school if the student is wishing to apply for entry into selective high school in 2022. This form is not an application. Applications for Year 7 entry to selective high schools in 2022 will be accepted from Tuesday 13 October 2020 to Monday 16 November 2020. No applications will be accepted after this date. Parents must apply online at https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-7 All applicants are required to sit the Selective High School Placement Test to be held on Thursday 11 March 2021. School Travel – 2021 applications

Applications for student travel in 2021 opened on

Monday 12 October 2020. Students who require a School Opal card or travel pass for 2021 can now apply online. A new application should be submitted if a student is applying for a school travel pass for the first time or requesting an additional pass as a result of a new shared parental responsibility situation (e.g. joint custody). Please go to the school travel passes at Transport NSW for more information.

Get Tested!

Parents are reminded that any student or staff member with cold or flu-like symptoms must stay home, be tested, return a negative result and be symptom-free

before returning to school. Many thanks to the parents who have heeded this advice and been providing screenshots of text message results to our office and for supporting the effort to maintain community safety. See latest COVID-19 health alerts here.

School Hats and Sunscreen

We are now moving into the Australian summer. Please ensure that your child has a school hat (or a navy blue broad-brimmed hat). We now have a sunscreen station near the office door for any children who do not have their own. Enrolment for 2021 including Kindergarten

Our administration team is currently accepting enrolment applications and supporting documentation for students commencing in 2021. If you are enrolling a sibling of a student currently at our school or any other NSW Department school please contact the office for a pre-filled application. Our school is adhering to the Department of Education enrolment policy for local and non-local enrolments. This process and information can be found on our website. Please contact the office for further clarification if required. We are excited to announce the new Online Enrolment System is now available. The Online Enrolment System is designed to provide flexibility for our parents to submit an enrolment application online and at the time that best suits you. The application can be accessed on all browsers and mobile devices including iOS and Android. The online application process is currently restricted to:

• Enrolments into local schools only

• Children who are Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens or permanent residents

• Children who live in NSW We offer our support and encourage you to complete your application to enrol online. If, however, you do not feel comfortable completing an application online, a paper copy will be available for collection from the front office or can be downloaded from the Department’s going to a public school site. Further information about online enrolment can be found on our website here. As our orientation program has commenced ALL Kindy enrolments need to be completed now.

SeeSaw Highlights

Below is some of the tremendous work carried out in our classes this week.

Kindergarten reflected on Remembrance Day.

Stage 1 looked to the past and contemplated the (distant) future.

Here is to a Happy New Year from Stage 2!

Stage 3 confronted a serious and relevant topic as they move into their teenage years. Well done! Stephen Bondfield Relieving Deputy Principal

Kindy Orientation

Congratulations to our 2021 Kindergarten students on a successful first week of orientation! There were so many brave students who said good bye to parents at the gate and walked upstairs to the Kindy classrooms, to have fun with their peers playing games and engaging in some learning activities. Parents are reminded that orientation sessions will continue for the next two weeks. In the last week of orientation, parents will receive an information package containing a range of resources to support a positive transition to school. At the back of the newsletter, you will also find information on how to purchase school uniforms. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the office. We are looking forward to the next two sessions of orientation being even more successful than the first! Courtney Johnston Assistant Principal – Kindergarten

The Latest News from Support

There's lots going on as we round the corner into the second half of Term 4. K-6A and B have been enjoying lots of shared lessons and activities, including our study of 'Family Life, Past and Present.' This fortnight, we're all presenting a speech to share our experiences and memories of our families over time. Students and staff alike have loved sharing memories and photos, in particular, comparing some different celebrations, as well as comparing photos of us in days gone by. It's been great to develop confidence speaking in front of an audience, responding to a range of questions, and working on skills like projecting our voices and using eye contact. We've also enjoyed spending time together to explore creative arts. Here's a selection of art we created on Wednesday, following a whole-school assembly from our school leaders and lead by Ms Katie Whelan to acknowledge Remembrance Day.

The NK way is showing up for our local community this month, with donations starting to appear in the baskets underneath our token voting table, just like presents under a tree! Parents, caregivers and students have been generous in supporting the Norwest Region Salvation Army Hamper Drive, which encourages giving a packet or tin of non-perishable food to go towards hampers to help local families in need. It has been such a positive and rewarding experience to wander over to the office and acknowledge students' attitude and achievement by

encouraging them to vote in a fun school event, while dropping off a small donation to the Salvos Hamper Drive baskets. It's been a great way to open dialogues with our students about the importance of charity, empathy and kindness, as well as what it means to be a good citizen of our school, and in our community. Keep up the great work- donations close Friday 27 November!
