LAS VEGAS — Country superstar Sha-nia Twain says she’ll end her residency in Las Vegas with a final show Dec. 13, two years after she began performing at Caesars Palace.

Twain announced 16 “Shania: Still the One” shows in October and December, in addition to summer performanc-es running through July 26 at the Colosseum.

The singer known for hits including “Man! I Feel Like A Woman” and “That Don’t Im-press Me Much” ar-rived in Las Vegas on horseback in November 2012. Traffic down the Las Vegas Strip was temporarily halted for the herd of horses that accompanied her on her grand entrance.

Her stage show fea-tures trained horses, a live band and a flying motorcycle.

Organizers said at the time that Twain’s residency would be a two-year engagement.

The 49-year-old star made most of his money from June 2013 to June 2014 from “Iron Man 3,” which made $1.2 billion at the box office and assured him the top spot again in the annual ranking.

“As Iron Man, he’s the driving force be-hind four of Marvel’s biggest hits, including ‘The Avengers,’” Forbes.com said.

Former wrestler Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, 42, who starred in “G.I. Joe: Retaliation,” and the “Fast and Furious,” films, jumped into second place this year from fifth in 2013 with earnings of $52 mil-lion, followed by “Hangover,” star Bradley Cooper, 39, with $46 million.

“His work in the lucrative ‘Hangover,’ franchise has given him the ability to take risks with smaller films like ‘Silver Linings Playbook,’ and ‘American Hustle,’” Forbes

said about Cooper.“The Wolf of Wall Street,” star Leonardo

DiCaprio, 39, had a lucrative year with two hit films and came in fourth at $39 million in earnings, while Australian “Thor” actor Chris Hemsworth, rounded out the top five with $37 million. DiCaprio was a driving force behind “The Wolf of Wall Street,” which made $395 million worldwide and he also starred in “The Great Gatsby,” which took in $351 million globally.

Mark Wahlberg, 43, who was in fourth place last year thanks to the comedy hit “Ted,” just made the top 10 this year along with actor Will Smith, 45. Each actor earned an estimated $32 million.

Forbes.com compiled the rankings and estimated earnings by talking to managers, producers and agents.

Komang Wikariyasa, 26, young-er brother of Ketut Wiartini, 33, the victim of Malaysia Airlines crash with flight number MH17, said that around 11:30 a.m., he got a direct call from the Family Support Center of Malaysia Airlines. As planned, the representative of the Minister of Defense of Malaysia would conduct a press conference regarding the casualties of the MH17 aircraft.

The Family Support Center of Malaysia Airlines had contacted the family member of Ketut Wiartini. Komang Wikariyasa claimed to have been telephoned and asked to watch the television program airing the press conference on the post-accident condition of the MH17 aircraft. “I’ve got a direct call from Malaysia. It was said that around 2:00 p.m. Malaysian Time today (Monday—Ed), there will be a live press conference on the MH17 plane crash victims,” said

Wikariyasa when receiving a call from Firdaus, a representative of the Family Support Center of Malaysia Airlines.

Komang Wikariyasa explained that during her lifetime Ketut Wiartini wanted to build a chari-table foundation with her friends in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. “She once said that she wanted to build a charitable foundation in the area behind her house with an area of reaching 300 square meters. The development is deliberately made in stages to adjust to the concept and design of the foundation build-ing with her friends in the Nether-lands,” he explained.

Family spokesman, Markus Lunggu Manu, 46, admitted that he last met Ketut Wiartini on August 17, 2013. She often talked about the story of her work in the Netherlands. Markus could also help her apply identity cards and build the foundation with friends.

Bali PostAMLAPURA - A villa build-

ing, namely the Villa Sweet owned by Amankila Hotel at Manggis Kelod hamlet, Manggis, Karangasem, completely caught fire on Monday morning (Jul 21) around 00:45. Occupants of the villa consisting of a profes-sor from New York, the USA, Prof. Morris, 69, and his family survived.

The villa occupants did not get injuries. Hotel security guards and employees evacuated the occupants to another building. Apart from Prof. Morris, the villa building sizing 11 meters x 5 meters was also occupied by his wife Martha Morrell, 64, and his daughter Adrienne Margaret, 19.

The fire on the thatched villa building was first seen by secu-rity guard, I Gede Arta, 45. The

fire appeared from the roof of front terrace. He called out to ask for help to other employees when seeing the fire. Afterward, the occupants were awakened and evacuated.

Fire Brigade was contacted. However, since the reed roof was flammable, the fire incident caused one of the buildings along with the furniture to be totally caught on fire. The losses were

estimated to reach IDR 600 mil-lion.

Spokesperson of Karangasem Police, Ketut Dasta, with permis-sion from the Karangasem Police Chief Gede Adhi Mulyawarman confirmed the case last Monday. From the results of police investi-gation by asking for information to witnesses such as hotel secu-rity guards, the source of fire was suspected from a short circuit in

the electrical wiring on the build-ing hood of the Villa Sweet.

Previously, the two-story building of Hotel Kebun Wayan located at Amed tourist resort consisting of four rooms, art shop and mini market were also completely on fire last week. No casualties were reported in the incident but losses were esti-mated to reach more than IDR 1 billion. (013)

BULELENG - The family of Ketut Wiartini from Tukad Ampel hamlet, Kubutambahan village, Buleleng, seemed very busy from the morning preparing all the needs for the corpse reception when the corpse would be repatriated. Wreath of the regent of Buleleng, Putu Agus Suradnyana, already arrived at the funeral home as an expression of condolence. Meanwhile, in the house, the offerings with incense stick, kebaya cloth, offerings and bed of the corpse wrapped in clothes were prepared by family members of the victim, Monday morning (Jul 21).

Wiartini was known to have a hobby to participate in subdistrict long walks. “Next year, I want to come again and book a ticket again, so that I can get a cheaper price,” said Wiartini to Markus last year.

Later, the family made preparation as there would be a call to family member

from Malaysian government. The victim’s family had appointed Nengah Wikornia to leave for Malaysia. “He was appointed because he can speak a little English. We ask to be made a passport because we are far from the city and never get in touch with passport mat-ters,” said Markus.

For information, Ketut Wiartini is the fourth child of seven siblings including Luh Wiasih, Made Wiarsa, Komang Windrani, Ketut Wiartini, Luh Wiasrini, Nengah Wikornia and Komang Wikari-yasa. Meanwhile, her parents named Luh Sukrini, 74, and (late) Nengah Ambek. (kmb34)

Yahoo did not disclose how much it paid for San Francisco-based Flurry, but online reports valued the deal in the hundreds of millions of dollars for the startup founded in 2005.

“Yahoo is committed to being a part of consumers’ daily life on mo-bile,” Flurry chief executive Simon Khalaf said in an online post.

“More importantly, Yahoo knows that it can’t do this alone.”

The take-over will provide Flurry resources to ramp up platforms for developers to build applications, tar-get users, and explore ways to make money, Yahoo said in a release.

Yahoo maintained that 170,000 developers use Flurry analytics tools and that Flurry sees app activity from 1.4 billion devices each month.

crucial allies by technology firms eager to have fun, hip, or functional mini-programs that attract users to their products.

TORONTO - Women looking to enhance their image but wary of spending money on expensive cosmetics can take the guesswork out of finding a new look, or improving selfies, with the latest beauty apps.

Consumers can experiment with different looks in the apps that act like augmented reality mirrors.

With the Beauty Mirror app, which uses filters, people can see how they would look with fewer wrinkles, bigger lips or lifted eye-brows in a real-time photograph or video.

“Our idea was to apply a subtle, realistic change to a person’s reflection so that when someone put it on Facebook no one would know it was an altered video,” said Parham Aarabi, the CEO of Toronto-based ModiFace, which created the app.

The app uses facial tracking technology to apply anti-aging and beauty enhancements, such as a lip enlargement, to the person’s image in real time.

“They look the same but every-thing is just a little better - their wrinkles are gone, their eyes are retouched,” said Aarabi.

In addition to enhancing self-

portraits, Aarabi said the company plans to use the technology to help skin care and cosmetic companies to showcase their products.

“Selfie apps have become all the rage. The ability to change 2-D photos before uploading them to Facebook has been really popular, but now people can take video and touch it up using the app too,” he said.

A similar app called Makeup Genius, created by the France-based cosmetics group L’Oreal, lets users change the colors of products they have applied like lipstick and eye shadow in real time so they can test them before

buying.Both Beauty Mirror and Make-

up Genius are free for iPhone and iPad and available worldwide. Most looks within Beauty Mirror are free, but some advanced cus-tomized options cost $1.99.

Sarah Maria, a California-based body image expert and author of “Love Your Body, Love Your Life,” said people are constantly bombarded with enhanced images in films and magazines that portray unrealistic standards of beauty.

“The apps probably add to the already prevalent idea that the face needs to be enhanced to look younger or thinner,” said Maria,

who added it could also contribute to negative body image among those already struggling.

Aarabi said consumers are al-ready improving their self-portraits before posting them to Facebook or Instagram, a trend he believes will grow.

“Today, people care about en-hancing how they look before they take a photo,” he added. “But in the future, I can see a scenario that people care less about putting on makeup or skin-care products before they take a photo or video, knowing that they can apply one-click effects after the video is taken.”

DENPASAR - Proliferation of screen printing business, work-shop and laundry threatens the agricultural activities in Bali, Denpasar and Badung in par-ticular. It happens because the wastewater is discharged into the irrigation channel whose water flows into paddy fields. In addi-tion, the wastewater also pollutes the environment.

“Other than screen printing industry, the other activities also tend to cause groundwater con-tamination. Currently, they actu-ally threaten the activities in the agricultural field,” said the Sec-

retary of the Indonesia Farmers Union (HKTI) of Badung Chapter, I Ketut Sugiana.

According to Sugiana, the wastewater containing methane typically originated from used oil disposed by motor service and laundry wastewater would have a negative impact on water and the environment. Pollution would result in adverse effects for farmers who worked in their fields because it could cause itching. Similarly, it could cause poisoning and damage crops. “People who eat the crops can be poisoned, let alone be consumed continuously,” he said.

On that account, he pointed out

that the government should do its tasks decisively, particularly with regard to the environmental pol-lution. Any activities having an impact on water pollution should be accompanied with the control against the environmental impact as outlined in the Environmental Management Effort (UKL) and Environmental Monitoring Effort (UPL) or Environmental Impact Analysis (Amdal). “If there are no environmental management system and pollution control, then the government has the right not to issue the permit,” said Sugiana.

Similar opinion was revealed by environmentalist Ketut Adnyana. According to him, the screen print-

ing business and garment industry mostly disposed their wastewater into the river. Actually, their ac-tion had polluted the environment, especially the agricultural areas. “The employers are punishable. It just needs to wait for the results of the examination test made by the Environment Agency regarding the threshold threat of environmental pollution standard. Relevant of-ficers starting from the municipal police should act decisively to enforce the regional bylaw by cracking down even charging with misdemeanor against the viola-tors,” he added.

He hoped the Environment Agency should routinely check the

companies polluting the environ-ment and coordinate with police authority. When any violation was found, it should be immediately investigated related to the violation against the Environmental Law so that there would be a deterrent effect.

“It is set forth in the Law No.32/2009, namely regarding the environmental management. Proliferation of such businesses may happen because there is no regular enforcement by the au-thorities. Any community feeling to be harmed has the right to report and even sue for compensation. So, there should be a decisive action,” he said. (kmb36)

“We are preparing 38 ships, plus three reserve ships, to serve passengers at Gilimanuk port,” Head of Bali’s Transportation, Communication and Informa-tion Service Ketut Artika said on Monday.

He noted that the three reserve ships prepared by the Bali office of the Inland Waterway company (PT ASDP) were to be used in case of an anticipated increase in the number of Lebaran travelers.

The transportation service of-ficial also explained about pier preparations at the port, where he said six piers were expected to serve Lebaran travelers, locally known as ‘pemudik’.

At the port, which links Keta-pang port in East Java, at least five ticket windows were available to the public, two being for motor-cycles and four-wheel vehicles.

“We have also prepared one lane for trucks, so they can di-rectly embark on the ships,” he added.

In the meantime, the ASDP of-fice at Ketapang port of Bangyu-wangi, East Java, is preparing 44 ships to serve post-fasting Idul Fitri travelers, according to its manager.

PT ASDP Manager for Keta-pang Saharudin Kotto said here on Monday that of the 44 ferries, 21 were for passenger ships to be operated through Mobil Bridge (MB) Pontoon Pier and 23 were

“However, of the 44 ships, possibly only 36 will be oper-ated during the homeward flow and return flow of the Idul Fitri holiday, or Lebaran travelers,” he said.

Saharudin said that his office had also prepared other infrastruc-ture and facilities at Ketapang port, including the ships and piers, which would be operated during the Lebaran transportation season.

“All fleet members have been sent to the dockyard for repair so that 36 of the ships are now ready to serve homeward and reverse travelers,” he noted.

The Ketapang port connects Gimanuk port in the Indonesian tourist resort province of Bali.

He said that most workers in Bali were residents of Java, so that the Ketapang - Gilimanuk crossing was expected to be-come one of the busiest straits in the country during the Lebaran holidays.

Some 27.9 million people in Indonesia are expected to travel home to villages to celebrate the Islamic post-fasting celebration of Idul Fitri, a seven percent increase from last year, police said.

“The holidays will certainly increase vulnerabilities, in terms of traffic,” National Police Chief General Sutarman said, in a writ-

ten statement read aloud by the governor of Riau province in Sumatra, Annas Maamun, at a roll call of forces assigned to ensure security during the large holiday event.

In view of the larger number of travelers, Sutarman called on his staff to implement their mandate

to serve the community with sin-cerity, including securing traffic.

He said motorists must be reminded about the importance of following traffic signs and prioritizing safety.

“Stringent action should be taken against violators of traffic regulations, as they could threaten

the safety of others,” he said.He said the number of traffic

incidents had gone up year to year, increasing by 101.61 percent from 2012 to 2013.

However, he noted that acci-dents had been reduced by 29.77 percent last year, which his force was proud to report.

Several hundred people chanted “We want justice” and demanded that authorities catch whoever was responsible for downing Flight 17 in rebel-held eastern Ukraine, kill-ing all 298 people onboard.

Western countries have accused the pro-Russia separatists, possibly with help from Moscow, of shooting down the plane. The United Na-tions Security Council unanimously backed an Australian-drafted reso-lution Monday demanding that the rebels controlling the crash site refrain from compromising evidence.

Tuesday’s rally was organized by the youth wing of the United Malays National Organization, Ma-laysia’s largest political party.

A Russian Embassy official said that staff members had been ordered to stay inside the embassy compound. She did not want to give her name as she was not authorized to speak to the media.

One of the demonstrators, Chris Wong, said the protesters were “not accusing anyone” for last week’s disaster. “We want to ask Russia and also Ukraine to cooperate with investigations,” he said outside the Russian Embassy.

Russia’s ambassador to Malay-sia, Lyudmila Vorobyeva, reiterated earlier Tuesday that Russia had nothing to do with the plane crash and pointed the finger at Ukraine.

“The rebels do not possess any defense systems that are capable of

shooting a plane at the altitude of 10,000 meters (32,800 feet). They do not have this kind of system. Russia never supplies this kind of system,” she told a news confer-ence.

Vorobyeva said that Russia was not “playing” games of laying blame without any evidence. “We are not doing that. We are calling for a thorough investigation that could produce evidence of who is respon-sible for this tragedy,” she said.

Some protesters handed a let-ter to the United Nations office in Kuala Lumpur earlier in the day, asking for the U.N.’s support in helping ensure that the investiga-tion into last Thursday’s crash is not hampered.

WASHINGTON — Hillary Rodham Clinton said Monday that the U.S. and Europe should work together to develop tougher sanctions on Russia while she backed President Barack Obama’s calls for a thorough investigation into the passenger jet that was shot down last week over Ukraine.

Clinton said in a Facebook chat from the company’s headquarters in Menlo Park, California, that tougher sanctions would make clear to Russian President Vladimir Putin “that there is a price to pay for this kind of behavior.” The former secretary of state said she agreed with Obama’s comments earlier Monday urging “immediate and full access” for investigators combing through the wreckage of the downed plane.

“We should do more to ensure a thorough investigation that not only respects those who were murdered in the attack on the plane, but also tries to find answers to who is responsible,” Clinton wrote during the question-and-answer session on the popular social media site.

Obama accused pro-Russian separatists of removing evidence and bodies from the crash site and said the burden was on Russia and Putin to compel the separatists to cooperate with the investigation. He said if Russia continues to violate Ukraine’s sovereignty, Moscow “will only further isolate itself” and the economic costs will increase.

Clinton said the U.S. should encourage Europeans to ensure that they are less dependent upon Russian energy. She called for “more support given to the Ukrainians to guard their borders and protect themselves.”

The potential 2016 Democratic presidential candidate responded to a wide-ranging list of questions on Facebook that covered her book, “Hard Choices,” domestic and foreign policy issues, her favorite book and her role as a grandmother-to-be.

Clinton said she was hopeful for a cease-fire between Hamas and Israel to end the fighting the Gaza Strip and noted that she negotiated the last cease-fire in 2012. She said she was “fully supportive” of Secretary of State John Kerry’s work with the Egyptians to bring a halt to the fighting.

Asked what her first action would be if elected president, Clinton said, “answering hypothetically ... the next president should work to grow the economy, increase upward mobility, and decrease inequality.”

Clinton listed her favorite book as Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s “The Brothers Karamazov” and said she already had a first children’s book picked out to read to her future grandchild: Margaret Wise Brown’s “Goodnight Moon.”

He said on Monday (Jul 21) that originally the of-fender admitted to work in one of the telecom companies and then the offender and his wife stayed for five nights at the Hard Rock Hotel on Jalan Raya Kuta, Monday (Jul 12) to Thursday (Jul 17). When checking in, the offender admitted that all the accommodation expenses would be paid by his company by presenting a guarantee letter of the company. “By using this new mode, the offender successfully occupied a Luxury Suite with the rate of IDR 9 million per night,” he said.

On the fourth day, Wednesday (Jul 16), the man living in the area of Cibubur (East Jakarta) started his deceptive strategy. He and his wife left the hotel silently by leaving room bill worth IDR 48 million. To lead on the hotel staff, the offender left the bag and some clothes in the room. “He fled on

the fourth day by leaving a bill of tens of millions,” he continued.

Moreover, in fact the couple continued their scams at Pullman located on Jalan Pantai Kuta. At this hotel, Tri and his wife booked a room at IDR 9 million. After spending one night at this five-star hotel, the two offenders were caught by a staff of Hard Rock Hotel. “Having been caught, the offenders were then brought to the office,” he said while adding that the offender’s wife only served as witness.

Based on the results of interrogation, Tri Yanuar claimed to work in one of the telecom companies in Jakarta. However, when the investigators cross-checked the company, in fact it was no longer in operation. “The offender told lie if he worked in a telecom company,” added this jasmine-one officer.

Results of the examination against the suspect in-dicated if he also committed similar action at some star hotels in Nusa Dua, Kuta and Nusa Lembongan. Then, the offender underwent medical treatment at Trijata Hospital after having an abdominal opera-tion. “This morning (Monday—Ed), his stomach got pain after the operation, so his must be treated at Trijata Hospital,” he said. Ramadan holy month until the Eid of 1435 Hijri, Bali Police is in first alert by deploying 13,734 person-nel. Starting four days before the holiday, police banned trucks or ve-hicles with double wheelbase from transporting materials and passing at vulnerable paths. Besides, the 19 subdistrict police stations located in the homecoming path were in-structed to do security.

Chief of Bali Police, AJ Benny Mokalu, after attending the security rally of the joint team at Puputan Margarana Square at Niti Mandala Renon, Denpasar, Monday (Jul 21), said that Bali Police enforced first alert by deploying around 13,734 personnel in the Ketupat Agung Operation for the Eid homecoming security. “Even though Bali is safe and conducive, we still prioritize vig-ilance by touching the critical points and increasing joint patrols with the Indonesian Military,” he said.

This two-star general explained the critical points at the entrance of Bali including the Gilimanuk Harbor, Benoa Harbor, Padang Bai Harbor and Ngurah Rai Airport. Nevertheless, it had not been ascer-tained the use of X-ray detector. He reasoned the device included in the

But cur-rently, there had been no indication of terrorist movement. “When there is information on the movement of particular group such as terrorist, the device will be deployed,” he said.

Further, Benny Mokalu urged Balinese people to maintain the stability in Bali so as to remain con-ducive because Bali was a barometer of the world. “As a tourist destina-tion, if the situation is safe then all the travelers will continue to visit Bali,” he said.

Meanwhile, Director of Bali Po-lice Traffic Affairs, I Wayan Sunarta, said that his party had made various efforts to reduce the number of acci-dent rate on the vulnerable tracks, so that the homecoming traffic estimated to be busy four days before holiday could run smoothly. “As the data analysis, the homecoming traffic is predicted to be busy from four days before the holiday with an increase of about 7 percent,” he said.

Additionally, for the sake of safety and comfort, police forbade double-wheelbase trucks or vehicles carry-

ing heavy materials to pass at prone paths starting four days before holi-day. “Later, trucks will be prohibited

transporting heavy materials, except for carrying groceries and fuel,” he said. (kmb35)

GENEVA - The Swiss and Chinese central banks signed a currency swap agreement in Beijing on Monday, mark-ing an important step in the development of a market for yuan in Switzerland, the Swiss central bank BNS said.

The agreement, highlighting steps towards international use of the yuan, ensures that Swiss francs will be avail-able in China and that yuan, also known as renminbi, will be supplied to financial centres in Switzerland.

The BNS statement said that the agreement was “an important step” for the renminbi business in Switzerland.

The agreement permits the two central banks to buy up to a maximum of 150 billion yuan or 21 billion Swiss francs (17.3 billion euros, $23.4 billion).

The deal was signed by the governor of the People’s Bank of China Zhou Xiaochuan and BNS president Thomas Jordan.

The BNS also obtained a quota of investment in yuan which opens the way for it to invest part of its currency reserves on the Chinese bond market.

Under this arrangement, the Chinese central bank allows BNS a quota of 15 billion yuan or about 2.0 billion Swiss francs to invest on the Chinese interbank bond market.

In a separate statement, the Swiss finance ministry welcomed the agree-ment with China, saying it showed that Switzerland was playing an increased role in the internationalisation of the Chinese currency.

A free-trade agreement between China and Switzerland took effect on July 1. It is the first agreement of its type between China and a European country.

China is the sixth-biggest export market for Switzerland, and the fourth supplier to it.

Switzerland hopes that with this agreement it can get ahead of other Eu-ropean countries, acting as a bridgehead into Europe for Chinese trade and com-panies, and also as a centre for finance in yuan.

Switzerland is not a member of the European Union but has close trading relations with it.

The Swiss finance industry is also re-structuring its activities to compen-sate for constraints arising from new international agreements, and from US action clamping down on cash outflows into foreign banks.

The Cabinet Office said it now expects expansion of 1.2 percent in the year to March, compared with a previous estimate of 1.4 percent.

The announcement comes a week after the Bank of Japan also lowered its outlook to 1.0 percent from an earlier 1.1 percent.

Japan has seen widening trade imbalances since the Fukushima nuclear crisis in March 2011 forced it to switch off its atomic

reactors and turn to pricey fossil fuel imports to plug the energy gap.

“The latest forecast was based on weak demand overseas and stronger-than-expected imports,” a Cabinet Office official said of the downward revision.

The cut was also “due to weak domestic demand following the consumption tax increase in April”, the official said.

However, the government said

growth would bounce back to 1.4 percent in the following fiscal year as Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s policy blitz takes hold.

Abe last year launched a three-pronged plan to kickstart the economy, announcing huge pub-lic spending, largely on public works, while the Bank of Japan embarked on an unprecedented monetary easing plan to fight off debilitating deflation.

The moves stoked growth and

drove a stock market rally, but Abe has so far made little prog-ress on the so-called third prong -- promised economic reforms, including shaking up rigid labour markets and convincing more women to join the workforce.

Last week, the central bank held fire on fresh stimulus mea-sures, saying Japan’s economy was still holding up despite the tax rise, even as a closely watched BoJ report this month showed business confidence suffered its first deterioration in six quarters,

The levy hike was aimed tam-ing Japan’s massive national debt, one of the heaviest burdens among rich nations.

Bali PostDENPASAR - Getting closer to the en-

forcement of ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) 2015 brings in various consequences with the presence of free market and competi-tion in all sectors including the agriculture. One of the efforts that can be done is by developing and improving the quality of organic agricultural products.

“Now, the problem arising is how to pro-vide the organic market. Do not only multiply the souvenir markets, while ignoring the interests of the people, especially farmers,” said Putu Sudiarta, PhD, an agricultural academician, Friday (Jul 18).

Without immediate action, the agriculture of Bali would be marginalized. Other than by rogue developers annexing the green belt, it would also be caused by the onslaught of foreign organic agricultural products. These conditions would make farmers more severe and difficult. “Without developing special market for organic products, it will be dif-ficult to distinguish between the organic and non-organic products. Additionally, if the products are sold in general market, the price will be the same,” he said.

Actually, if at this time there had been an organic market, farmers would definitely want to improve the quality of their organic products. “Now, the price is the same as the conventional agricultural products,” said Sudiarta.

In addition, it was required a certification because the export procedures were not easy. Meanwhile, the government had not been serious to work on the market, whereas it had many enthusiasts. “Do not be talkative at ex-port. Necessarily, the government should give facilitation, chiefly in the matter of certifica-tion and market. Do not just talk,” he said.

Supposedly, said Sudiarta, it should not only establish souvenir shops. The govern-ment was expected to also create a market of organic products for middle-to upper class. “If the organic products are sold to traditional market, the price will be the same, whereas the production cost is more expensive. Let’s make organic market organized by the gov-ernment,” said the lecturer of the Udayana University.

Similar opinion was revealed by the Chair-man of the Bali Environmental Care Forum, AA Gede Putra Arjawa. He said the govern-ment should have commitment and not only demand the public or farmers to improve the quality of agricultural products. “Goodwill of the government is still lacking. Similarly, the processing cost must also be assisted in order to increase farmers’ income,” he said.

In addition, the public mindset should also be changed so that the marketing and income of the quality products could be improved. It would enable them to compete in the global market, including the MEA 2015 “Most im-portantly, the organic agricultural products are very important for health. Hence, the production needs to be improved and mar-keted,” said Arjawa. (kmb36)

According to Laksana, the decline of gradual discharge of the lake water was caused by the current weather condition having begun to enter dry season. Mean-while, the intensity of rainfall since the past few weeks had started to decline replaced by hot weather.

After the discharge of water in Lake Batur, local communities around the lake were required to re-adapt or make adjust-ment to the existing environmental condi-tions. In addition to the adaptation, he also expected the public to make mitigation measures so as to reduce the impact of the

lake overflow. In this case, it reduced the quarry activities that could affect the silting of the lake. “In addition to adapting, the community mitigation program also needs to be encouraged,” he said.

Decreasing overflow of Lake Batur was also recognized by headman of Trunyan, Wayan Arjana. Since the water flow reduced, the pavement on the main road at local village, precisely at Cemara Landung hamlet, was already noticeable. However, the road on the edge of the lake near people’s settlement was still unable to be passed through by vehicle.

As reported all this time, the condi-tion of Lake Batur in Kintamani had overflowed since last year. Other than soaking the farmland of local people around the lake, the lake overflow even drowned dozens of homes at Trunyan village.

According to Bangli Environment Agency, the overflowing Lake Batur all this time was caused by the silting in the lake bed that occurred due to the amount of sediment materials taking place over the years. The materials were in the form of avalanches of sand and soil taken by water flow into the lake.

Based on the latest data owned by the Bangli Environment Agency in 2010, the depth of the lake posing the pride of Bangli community only reached 80 meters. The figure decreased from the measurement result in the 1960s which reached a depth of 200 meters. (ina)

AntaraJAKARTA - Indonesia demands

trial of the party responsible for the Malaysian Airlines MH17 flight downed in eastern Ukraine on Thurs-day (July 17), Indonesia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, Ambassador Desra Percaya stated.

“Indonesia demands the trial of the responsible party for the MH17 tragedy,” Ambassador Desra Percaya noted on Tuesday. Desra added that the handling of the bodies of the crash victims must be done in an honorable and professional manner.

“The bodies of the victims also need to be sent home without any further delay” Desra emphasized.

Desra conveyed his statement during the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) meeting on July 21, 2014, shortly after the adoption of Resolution No. S/RES/2166 (2014) on the Malaysian Airlines MH17 crash.

This resolution has been adopted by consensus and is co-sponsored by 13 members of the UNSC and the countries whose citizens have fallen victims, including Indonesia.

The UNSC’s resolution condemns the shooting down of the MH17 air-craft and called for a full, thorough, and independent international investi-gation to be immediately carried out.

The UNSC also offered its deep-est condolences to the families of the victims and urged for the guarantee and security of the investigating au-thorities and giving complete access to the crash site.

This resolution was passed after several meetings of the UNSC, includ-ing an emergency meeting on Friday (July 18), a day after the MH17 aircraft crash. The meeting was adjourned on Sunday (July 20) till Monday morning on (July 21).

Malaysian Airlines flight MH17 Boeing 777-200 ER departed from the Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam, the Netherlands, on Thursday (July 17) at 12:18 local time carrying 280 passengers and 15 crew members on board.

The flight lost contact while it was in the eastern Ukrainian airspace, but it was then discovered that the plane was shot down by a ground-to-air missile.

“I have never (made the state-ment). I am an honest man and not a type of traitor,” General Budiman stated on the sidelines of a roll call of the military forces in charge of pacification of the 2014 presidential election at the Army headquarters in Central Jakarta on Tuesday.

Budiman also denied various rumors regarding his replacement as the Army chief, which was carried out in the run up to the announcement of the recent July 9 presidential result by the General Elections Commis-sion (KPU).

One of the rumors was an allega-tion wherein he had mentioned that Yudhoyono’s government was now like a sinking ship. This alleged state-ment is believed to have angered the president.

The outgoing Army chief stated that there was no other reason be-hind his replacement. All is based on procedures. The replacement has been made in connection with his pension period.

“There is no problem. It need not be explained,” he added.

Budiman claimed that he knew he was going to be replaced after Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) Commander General Moeldoko called him on Monday evening.

Budiman said the important thing to do in a short time is to safeguard the security of the presidential election.

“In such a short time, I have to safeguard the implementation of the 2014 presidential election. I did what I thought I could and the best one,” General Budiman emphasized.

In the meantime, TNI Commander General Moeldoko assured that the replacement of the Army chief will not hamper TNI’s preparations in the face of the announcement of the results of the presidential election, which was held on July 9, 2014.

“The Army commander’s replace-ment will not affect the readiness of the forces in the face of the an-nouncement of the presidential poll’s recapitulation,” the TNI commander stated after chairing the military roll call on Tuesday.

The replacement will be carried out after the TNI chief was sum-

moned by President Yudhoyono on Monday. The president asked him to propose three names from which one will be selected to be the new Army chief.

The replacement will be carried out merely to follow the TNI’s regen-eration process.

“Why is the replacement being carried out? It is because of the in-terest of the TNI organization and regeneration. Pak (Mr) Budiman will shortly start his pension period. It only coincides with the time when the presidential election result is about to be announced by the KPU,” he stressed.

The replacement is to be carried out this week pending the issuance of the presidential decision.

The TNI commander has submit-ted three names as the nominees for the Army chief position: Army’s Strategic Reserve Command Chief Let Gen. Gatot Nurmantyo, Deputy Chief of the Army Let Gen. M. Munir, and Secretary General of the National Resilience Council Let Gen. Waris.

AntaraJAKARTA - The Ministry of Tour-

ism and Creative Economy has begun distributing thousands of maps of tour-ist attractions to the post-fasting Idul Fitri or Lebaran travelers, which they can visit during their journey.

“We plan to distribute the maps one week before the Lebaran holi-days,” Ratna Suranti, the director for promotional affairs of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, stated on Tuesday.

As followed in the past, her office cooperated with private companies and state-owned enterprises to create tourism maps replete with tourism packages and routes to tourist des-tinations, which are being distrib-uted to Idul Fitri travelers across the country.

Suranti remarked that her office will print over 50 thousand maps of tourist sites, which will be distributed in public places such as at toll road gates, bus terminals, seaports, malls, and others.

Ratna explained that the maps re-

sembled common maps and are tour-ism maps having relevant information about supporting facilities such as hotels, recreation centers, and restau-rants, including tourism packages.

She expressed hope that the maps will serve to promote tourist destina-tions among the Idul Fitri travelers.

The tourism packages are also expected to help travelers and the people to enjoy their favorite tourist destinations easily.

Around 27.9 million people in Indonesia are expected to travel to their native villages to celebrate the Islamic post-fasting celebrations of Idul Fitri, up seven percent from last year, claimed the police.

“The condition will certainly in-crease traffic vulnerabilities,” National Police Chief General Sutarman noted in a written statement read out by Governor of Riau province in Sumatra Annas Maamun at a roll call of forces assigned to ensure security during the big holiday event.

The Idul Fitri holidays will fall on July 28-29, 2014.

Army chief denies having said President as sinking shipAntara

JAKARTA - Army Chief General Budiman denied having said that President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s government was now like a sinking ship that deserves to be abandoned.

Prince George turns 1 on Tuesday. While he may be too young to appreci-ate it, the milestone is a national event.

Editorial writers call him a symbol of hope, newspaper headlines hail him as “Gorgeous George” and one published a 24-page glossy magazine chronicling his first 12 months. Prince William and his wife Kate, who plan a small party at Kensington Palace, have said little in public about the ups and downs of parenting, but here are some things we know about the lad:

GEORGE HAS AN IMPORTANT NEW SKILL — WALKING

Official photos taken at the Natural History Museum in London show that George can walk perfectly well on his own, thank you very much. And George looks awfully proud of himself as he takes confident steps and raises his arms in triumph. Dressed in bib overalls and a blue shirt, he seems to be growing by leaps and bounds.

Any parent can tell you that means more work — you’ve got to keep a close eye on a toddler at all times. But the royal couple has plenty of support so it’s not likely George will get into too much mischief before someone intervenes.

GEORGE PLAYS WELL WITH OTHERS — UP TO A POINT

Parents know only too well that an infant’s moods cannot easily be controlled, and tantrums can be long and loud. So it took a certain amount of courage for William and Kate to

The security situation across the country’s 18,000 islands has improved markedly in recent years, but the un-precedented rancor of the campaign, the first between just two candidates in the country’s history, means that tensions are running high.

There were significant smear campaigns in the run-up to the elec-tion, and supporters of both men used social media for personal attacks.

“On the Jokowi side there are too many parasites, they are a danger to the country,” Subianto supporter and lawmaker Fahri Hamzah tweeted re-cently. “After the 22nd we will ‘deal’

with them. Just be patient,” he said, using language that could easily be interpreted as menacing.

Voters for Subianto chose to ig-nore his links to past human rights abuses. He admits taking part in the abduction of pro-democracy activists during the dying days of the Suharto dictatorship when he was head of the army’s strategic command, saying he was following orders. He was fired from the army as a result, and spent several years in self-imposed exile in Jordan.

Unofficial “quick counts” carried out by eight agencies, which tally a

sampling of votes around the country, have given Widodo a lead of around 4 percent, or roughly 6 million votes. The counts have been highly accurate in forecasting the results of previous elections. Independent analysts say there is no reason to think otherwise this time around, and that anything but a Widodo victory by about 4 per-cent would be highly suspicious.

Four polling firms with links to the Subianto campaign produced tallies that showed him in the lead by differing margins. Earlier this week, the Indonesian Association of Public Opinion Surveyors dismissed two of

them from the grouping after they refused to reveal their research meth-ods. The two other pollsters were not members of the association.

The Electoral Commission has needed about two weeks to collect and tabulate votes from nearly a half-million polling stations across the country’s 33 provinces. The commission’s national leadership is mostly seen as professional and impartial, but the same can’t be said for its official and local or provincial levels.

Once the formal results are an-nounced, it might be difficult for

Subianto to keep up his campaign. The political coalition that sup-

ported his bid might abandon him, preferring to try and get positions in a Widodo administration. Public and media support could wane.

“My suggestion is that the two (Subianto and his running mate, Hatta Rajasa) should have a reality check,” Abdillah Toha, a leading member of a political party that supported the pair, wrote in an open letter this week. “I know that deep in their hearts, they know they have lost. They should be just resigned to the results, as gentle-men and statesmen.”

Big milestone for Britain’s little princeAssociated Press

LONDON — The palace is releasing special pictures, the Royal Mint is striking a commemorative coin and newspapers are publishing glowing tributes. What’s all the fuss about? A little boy who will be king.

FILE - This is a Sunday, April 20, 2014 file photo of Britain’s Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, and her husband Prince William as they give their son Prince George a stuffed toy of Australian animal called a Bilby, which has been named after the young prince, during a visit to Sydney’s Taronga Zoo, Australia.

agree to have George play with other infants at a much-photographed “play date” in April during a royal tour of Australia and New Zealand. The future monarch got along with everyone, even if British newspapers suggested he might have grabbed a few toys other children were using — and the pictures were memorable. Instead of going into a family album, for view-ing once every five or 10 years, the pictures of playful Prince George and his friends went around the world in an instant, showing the future generation in the best possible light. Some Brit-ish papers crowed that the republican movement in Australia had been set back decades.

GEORGE HAS FASHION CLOUT — EVEN IF HE DOESN’T CHOOSE HIS OUTFITS

At his christening, which marked his first public appearance since leaving the hospital after his birth, 3-month-old George was dressed in a replica of a christening gown first used for Queen Victoria’s eldest daughter in 1841. This outfit didn’t cause much of a stir, but versions of the items he wore on his debut tour of Australia and New Zealand were snapped up by parents back home. Kate often chooses match-ing outfits for the boy: blue shorts, striped blue-and-white shirts, and blue socks and shoes, for example.

He has helped spawn mini-trends for mini-kids, popularizing cardigan sweaters, safari-style shorts and striped overalls. George is also big on sailor outfits with a nautical motif, leading

some to speculate whether he will follow his grandfather, Prince Charles, into the Royal Navy.

GEORGE LOOKS LIKE WINSTON CHURCHILL — MAYBE

Perhaps few others see the re-semblance, but Prince Harry thinks that Prince George looks “like a young Winston Churchill.” He was referring to George’s “big, chubby cheeks” and perhaps the boy’s commanding demeanor. Thanks to George’s arrival, Harry is no longer third in line for the throne — that

honor goes to George now.Others wax more poetic. Columnist

Allison Pearson says the young prince is so “scrumptious” that a new word — “Georgeous” — has been coined to describe his effect on people. One newspaper noted that George has be-come the second most popular name in Britain, just behind William.

GEORGE IS JUST LIKE YOU AND ME — BUT NOT REALLY

Most children get a cake, plus some cookies or ice cream on their first birthday. For George’s big day, the Royal Mint is striking 7,500 sterling

silver coins. That’s no simple matter. The design had to be approved by Queen Elizabeth II — why do you think they call it the Royal Mint? — as well as by his parents and the Treasury Secretary, George Osborne.

GEORGE HAS CENTER STAGE — FOR NOW

William and Kate have expressed an interest in having more children, but have otherwise kept their plans private. Asked in March whether they are planning to give George a sibling, William said: “Maybe one day. One’s enough at the moment.”

“I am very blessed and the game of basketball has given me everything and more than I can dream of to my family, myself and my friends,” James said. “And that’s why for me, I always give everything I can to the game, when I am on the basketball floor, both on and off court, because it has given me so much things that I never dreamed about. Brazil will announce a coach on Tuesday to succeed Luiz Fe-lipe Scolari, who resigned after Brazil failed to win the World Cup — eliminated in a humiliat-ing 7-1 loss to Germany in the semifinals.

Reports say Dunga will get the job, although the Brazilian foot-ball confederation has declined to confirm the appointment.

Dunga was the captain of Bra-zil’s 1994 World Cup-winning team, and coached the national team in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. He was dismissed after Brazil lost 2-1 in the quar-terfinals to the Netherlands.

The Rio de Janeiro daily O Globo put Dunga’s face across the first page of its sports sec-tion on Monday, under the head-line: “New Era: The Return of Dunga.”

“In a moment when the na-tional team seeks a lost identity, the national federation rescues a symbol of football and results,” the paper wrote.

The Sao Paulo newspaper O Estado De S.Paulo put a brief story on the return on Dunga on its first page, and inside ran the headline: “CBF Is Going To Confirm Dunga Tomorrow.”

The return of Dunga seems to be linked to the naming of Gilmar Rinaldi as the new technical di-rector, replacing Carlos Alberto Parreira.

Rinaldi was a goal-keeper on the ‘94 team, and Globo said he and Dunga had reached a quick agreement for the former coach and captain to return.

The second choice for coach seems to be Tite — Adenor Leon-ardo Bacchi — the coach of Bra-zilian club side Corinthians. He was an early favorite, but slipped after Rinaldi was named.

Dunga was in charge of 60 matches as national team coach. Brazil won 42, drew 12 and lost six.

LONDON — England captain Steven Gerrard announced his re-tirement from international football on Monday to focus on playing for Liverpool. The 34-year-old mid-fielder made 114 appearances for England over 14 years.

Gerrard said he “agonized” over his future after the World Cup in Brazil, where England went out after the first round.

He told the Football Association that “this has been a very difficult decision, one of the toughest I’ve had to make in my career.”

Gerrard’s career with the Three Lions began with a 2-0 win against Ukraine in 2000.

He is third all-time in appear-ances for England behind goal-keeper Peter Shilton (125) and David Beckham (115). Gerrard was captain for 38 internationals and scored 21 goals, including three in his 12 World Cup appearances.

“I have enjoyed every minute of representing my country and it is a sad day for me knowing that I won’t pull on the England shirt again,” Gerrard said. “To ensure I can keep playing to a high level and giving everything to Liverpool Football Club I believe this is the right decision.”

England manager Roy Hodgson was “disappointed” with the deci-sion, but said he understood it.

“I must respect his wishes due to the discussions we have had and the amount of thought and consideration he himself has given it,” Hodgson said. “We shall miss his leadership qualities as we look ahead to the (Euro 2016) qualifi-cation campaign with a youthful group of players.”

MADRID — James Rodri-guez, the Colombia striker who was the top scorer at the World Cup, is closing in on a deal with Real Madrid. The 23-year-old Monaco forward scored six goals in Brazil, including a spectacular volley against Uruguay in the second round.

Spanish sports newspaper As said Monday that Monaco had agreed terms with Madrid, whose president Florentino Perez had delayed his flight to Los Angeles where the club’s squad has some preseason training.

Sports newspaper Marca, traditionally very close to Ma-

drid’s boardroom, said Rodriguez is to be presented to fans on Tuesday.

Marca and As said Madrid had agreed with Monaco a price of 80 million euros ($108 million) for Rodriguez, and that the player would join the squad on the first day of August.

Madrid has already signed Germany midfielder Toni Kroos for next season. Both Kroos and Rodriguez could play in the Eu-ropean Super Cup against Sevilla in Cardiff on Aug. 12.

As said Rodriguez had made a brief stop-over in Madrid on Sunday and was spotted arriving back at the city’s international airport on Monday morning.

MILAN — Former AC Milan midfielder Demetrio Albertini has announced he is running for Italian football federation presi-dent.

Albertini has been a FIGC vice president since 2007 under Giancarlo Abete, who resigned along with Italy coach Cesare Prandelli immediately after the Azzurri were eliminated from the World Cup last month.

The 42-year-old Albertini

says, “I was always a leader on the pitch and now I want to lead a change in direction.”

Along with the national team’s struggles, Italian football is rife with problems such as falling attendance, crumbling stadiums, fan violence and racism.

Amateur leagues president Carlo Tavecchio is also running in the Aug. 11 election and ap-pears to have majority support but Albertini is backed by Juven-tus president Andrea Agnelli and several other prominent clubs.

Juventus says it is paying United 1.2 million pounds ($2 million) but that the transfer price will increase to 1.5 million pounds ($2.5 mil-lion) if Juventus qualifies for the 2015-16 Champions League.

The Turin club adds that it signed the 33-year-old Evra, who

spent the past nine seasons with United, to a two-year contract.

Juventus won Serie A the past three seasons with a three-man defense of Italy internationals Andrea Barzagli, Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci. But with Massimiliano Allegri replacing

Antonio Conte as coach, the squad could use a four-man backline this season.

Juventus also recently signed forward Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid and has shown interest in Udinese midfielder Roberto Peyrera.

(ina)

PT ASDP Manager for Keta-pang Saharudin Kotto said here on Monday that of the 44 ferries, 21 were for passenger ships to be operated through Mobil Bridge (MB) Pontoon Pier and 23 were

cargo ships to sail from the Land-ing Craft Machine (LCM) Pier.

(kmb34)

The announcement came as the Election Commission was finalizing the tally of the July 9 election and preparing to declare a winner later Tuesday. Thousands of policemen were deployed around the commission’s building in down-town Jakarta to maintain security after a particularly nasty presidential campaign.

Jakarta governor Joko Widodo, nicknamed “Jokowi” and known for his common man image, has maintained a slim lead of about 4 percentage points in unofficial “quick counts” by polling agencies released after the election.

But Subianto, who has declared assets of $140 million and is on his third bid for the presidency, has repeatedly claimed that polling firms with links to his campaign showed

he was ahead. After meeting with leaders of his coalition parties Tuesday,

he declared that there was massive fraud during the election and that it was undemocratic.

“We reject the 2014 presidential election which is unlaw-ful and therefore we withdraw from the ongoing process,” Subianto said. He ordered his witnesses to leave the commis-sion building where the officials were counting votes from the final five provinces.

The presidential campaign was Indonesia’s ugliest since the Muslim majority country of 240 million emerged from the long and brutal Suharto dictatorship 16 years ago. Supporters of both men used social media for personal

attacks, and Subianto’s supporters led a smear campaign against Widodo, spreading unfounded rumors he is not a Muslim.

Widodo, a former furniture maker, is widely seen as untainted by the often-corrupt military and business elite that have run Indonesia for decades. He likes to wear casual plaid shirts, listen to heavy metal music and make impromptu visits to the slums.

Some 190 million people were eligible to cast ballots to choose the next president for a five-year term. It takes about two weeks to collect and tabulate votes from nearly a half-million polling stations across the country’s 33 provinces.

Social UnrestThe results could trigger social unrest such as clashes

between supporters of the two candidates. Indonesia has ex-perienced frequent outbreaks of political, ethnic and separatist violence during its transition to democracy.

JAKARTA — Indonesian presidential election tally shows Jakarta governor Widodo wins 53 percent of vote. Meanwhile former Indonesian general Prabowo Subianto said Tuesday he rejected the presidential election process as unfair and that he was withdrawing from the contest as nearly complete results showed his opponent leading with 52 percent of the vote.
