Tuwing Pasko, kaming magkakabarkada ay gumagawa ng mga parol at paputok. Binenbenta naming ito

upang mayroon kaming pangkain araw-araw.

Pumasok si RJ at si JOSHUA sa entablado

RJ: Mga bata, tapos naba kayo diyan? Gabi na ah. Hindi na ba ka yo mamamasko?

JEN: Sandali nalang po tiyo. Marami pa po kasing bumibili eh.

BORJ: Tama ka diyan ate.

RJ: O sige, sige, ako na ang bahala diyan at magsi-alisan na kayo.

JESTER: Tiyo, pinapa-alis nyo na ba kami? Ayaw nyo na po ba sa amin?

JOSHUA: Hindi naman, mamamasko pa kayo diba?

JESTER: ay, tama! Nakalimutan ko... sorry po.

RJ: Walang anuman JESTER. Ang tunay na diwa ng pasko ay pagmamahalan at pagbibigayan

NICOLE: Salamat tito. Tatandaan po naming yan.

Umalis sa entablado ang magkakabarkada

JOSHUA: O sige, umalis na kayo at puputok na ang shop.

MICHELLE: Ang sungit naman! Wala pa nga akong nabili. Paano na to?

Pinulot ni RJ ang kanyang mga gamit at umalis sila ni JOSHUA sa entablado

MICHELLE malungkot na umalis sa Entablado

Pumasok si IKANG at AN-AN sumunod ang magbabarkada

JESTER: Paano na to? Konte lang an gating naipon?

NICOLE: ok lang yan.

BORJ: Ayun ate O, may bahay!

JEN: Hali! 1.....2..........3............Simula na!

Kumanta ang magkakabarkada (pasko4x pasko nanaman muli.....)

IKANG: Stooooop! Tigil! Anu ba? Ang pangit naman ng iyong boses!

JESTER: Ako?

: Oo, ikaw. Sino pa pala?

Ed: Eh bastos ka pala eh!

Malapit na suntukin ni Ed si Megan

Renz: Huwag po kuya! Tama na po. Tandaan mo ang tinuro sayo ni tiyo.

(May sound Flashback)

Huminahon si Ed

Ed: Sorry bata!

Megan: Bading ka ba? Magsuntukan na tayo!

Rachelle: Anak! Anung ginagawa mo?

Megan: Ma, pupulbusin po nila ako!

Rachelle: Anak, nakita ko ang iyong ginawa. Huwag na huwag kang magsisinungaling!

Megan: Opo.

Rachelle: Pasyensya na ha, mga bata. Ganyan lang talaga ang anak ko, palabiro.

Ed: Ang ganda naman pala ng biro niya!

Si Megan ay pupunta sa likuran ni Ed upang kunin ang paputok

Mariel: (binubulong: kuya!)

Shaira: Ang ibig po niyang sabihin ay, naiintindihan niya po ang anak mo.

Rachelle: O, ito, para sa inyo. Maligayang Pasko!

Megan: Ako po? Unfair! (galit na galit)

Magbabarkada: Maligayang pasko rin po. Salamat po!

Rachelle: Anak hali na.

Pumasok sa entablado ang pamilya ni Mon

Tumabi sa entablado sina Megan at Rachelle, Megan, Dumadabog.

Pumunta ang magkakabarkada sa kabilang bahay

Magkakabarkada: Mamamasko po!

Mikha: Get out! Wala kayong lugar dito.

Tara: Namamasko sila. Hindi sila makikitulog.

Mikha: Alam ko! Hwag mo nga ako pangunahan.

Tara: Alam kong hindi mo alam. 70 ka kasi sa card.

Mikha: Ah talaga lang ha? At least may abilidad!

Tara: Tinatawag mo ba akong tanga?

Mikha: Hindi. Tinatawag mo ba akong bobo?

Shaira: Pasensya na kung naistorbo namin kayo. Aalis na po kami.

Mikha: Dapat lang.

Tara: Huwag. Mikha!

Mariel: Ang pasko ay araw ng pagmamahalan at pagbibigayan. Hindi dapat kayo ganyan sa

isa’t-isa.

Mikha: Hmm!

Mariel: at hindi lamang sa pasko, sa araw-araw rin.

Tara: Tama ka nga. Patawad Mikha sa nagawa ko sa iyo.

Mikha: Hmm! Sige na nga. Patawad rin.

Nagyakapan ang magkapatid

Pumasok ang mag-asawa

Monica: Anong kaguluhan ito?

Frank: Hindi ito kaguluhan! Isa itong milagro!

Monica: Mikha, Tara, kayo ba talaga yan?

Frank: Salamat ha. Ito oh.

Tara: Pa pwede ditto nalang po sila kumain? Ang rami po niyan, tiyak hindi natin mauubos.

Mikha: Pleeeaaasssseee?

Monica: Sige na hon.

Frank: Sige na nga.

Frank: Halika na kayo mga bata.

Shaira: Pwede po bang isama naming si tiyo?

Rachelle: Anak! Naku! Salamat ha? Kung hindi dahil sa’yo, wala nang pasko para sa amin.

Ed: Walang anuman po. Ingatan nyo po ang anak niyo.

Mikha: Desperas na ng Pasko!

Lahat: 3.....2......1.......Maligayang Pasko!!! Let’s party party!

Another story 2

Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) Roshane Lopez shares the pain of not being with her children -- especially her Bunso -- as they are growing up. In her story, she hopes to make non-OFW parents realize that their children are luckier than hers in the sense that they have their whole family at home for Christmas. Malapit na naman ang Pasko. Hindi ko mapigilan ang sarili ko na mangulila sa mga taong mahalaga sa akin na nasa 'Pinas. Hindi pa rin kumpleto ang buhay ko kahit na masasabi kong medyo naabot ko na ang karera na gusto ko. Miss na miss ko na ang mga anak ko. Pang-apat na Christmas na ito na 'di ko sila nakakasama. Palaging isang malaking kahpon ang kapalit ko sa araw ng Pasko -- isang kahong puno ng laruan, sapatos, damit, at kung anu-ano pang bagay na nabili ko para sa dalawang anak ko. Lahat ng naiisip ko na alam ko'ng magugustuhan nila, binibili ko agad, kahit pa wala nang matirang budget para sa'kin. Nasa isip ko palagi kasi gusto ko'ng maging masaya sila sa Pasko at 'di nila maramdaman na wala ako. Ilang pares ng damit ba ang naibigay ko kay Bunso? Dalawang relos para sa magkabilang kamay niya? Dalawang sapatos para sa dalawang paa? Tatlong sumbrero para sa isang ulo niya? Samu't saring laruan na 'di na niya alam kung ano ang uunahing laruin? Isang kahong chocolate? Palaging sobra ang ibinibigay ko sa kaniya -- sobra sobra palagi. Ayaw ko kasing magkulang ano man ang gusto niya. Naiisip ko lang na baka sakaling mapunan nu'n ang pagkukulang ko sa kaniya sa araw ng Pasko, 'yung walang "Mommy" sa loob ng apat na taon. Kahit papaano, gusto ko'ng maramdaman niya na wala man si Mommy, maraming sobra sa inaasahan niya. Maraming blessings ang dumating sa buhay ko ngayong taon na ito. I could say that I'm blessed kasi God gives me more reason to stay here at paglingkuran ang mga taong nagtiwala sa'kin. Pero blessed nga ba talaga ako? Sa karera ng buhay siguro, pero sa buhay ng mga anak ko, isa lang ang ibig sabihin nu'n -- dalawang taon ulit silang mangungulila sa akin, mabubuhay nang walang nanay na gagabay sa kanila. Ilang beses na ba akong absent sa recognition? Sa field trip sa schools? Meetings ng mga parents? Alam kong naiintindihan nila kung bakit ako nandito sa malayo, pero ang masakit na katotohanan ay kung ano man ang nawalang panahon at oras na 'di nila ako nakasama ay 'di ko na maibabalik pa. I can't bring back the times na umiiyak sila kasi inaway ng kaklase nila. 'yung mga pagkakataong nadapa si Bunso at walang ako du'n para i-kiss ito para mawala ang sakit. Mahirap, malungkot, nakakadurog ng puso na kailangan mong gawin ang isang bagay hindi dahil gusto mo kundi dahil kailangan para din sa ikabubuti nila. Lagi akong naiinggit kapag nakikita ko ang mga larawan sa Facebook ng mga magulang na kasama

sa special events ang mga anak nila. Inggitera na kung inggitera. Though naranasan ko naman ito sa panganay kong anak, mas nalulungkot ako kay Bunso na 'di man lang nakaranan na mabantayan ko sa school. Hindi man lang niya naramdaman ang presence ko 'pag may mga pagdiriwang sa eskuwela niya. Mas masuwerte ba siya kaysa sa mga anak ninyo? Mas masuwerte nga ba siya dahil anak siya ng OFW? Hindi ko mapigilang isipin at makunsensiya na iniwan ko ang isang bata sa Pilipinas para magtrabaho dito sa malayo. Mabuti si Ate niya, may sarili nang mundo. Tatakbo lang sa mga kaibigan niya at mag "Aleluya Amen" sa church niya ay tapos na ang pangungulila niya. Pero si Bunso -- isang pitong taong gulang na batang lalaki na mag-isang lumalaban sa araw-araw na buhay nang walang nanay at tatay paggising sa umaga. Ito ang takbo ng isa sa mga usapan namin: AKO: Anak, nagustuhan mo ba ang mga pinadala ko sa'yo? BUNSO: Opo, Mommy. Nagustuhan ko po lahat. AKO: Ano ba ang pinakagusto mo sa lahat ng naibigay ko sa'yo? BUNSO: 'yung relo po kasi may calendar siya. 'di ba sabi mo sa March ka uuwi? AKO: Oo, anak. At ise-celebrate natin ang birthday mo kahit tapos na pagdating ko diyan. BUNSO: Yehey! Kaya nga, Mommy, binibilang ko sa calendar kung gaano pa 'yun katagal eh. AKO: Malapit na 'yun anak, uuwi na diyan si Mommy. BUNSO: Babalik ka pa diyan? AKO: Oo, anak. Kailangan ni Ate mag-aral sa college. Kailangan pa ni Mommy mag-stay dito. BUNSO: Ah, pero matagal pa ulit bago ka babalik dito? AKO: Anak, basta hintayin mo si Mommy kasi uuwi na ako ulit. Makakatabi mo na ako sa pagtulog. BUNSO: Yehey! Ang Pasko daw ay para sa mga bata, pero para sa'kin, ang Pasko ay para sa pamilya. Hindi mahalaga ang materyal na bagay na maibibigay ninyo sa inyong mga anak. The most important thing is how you love and cherish them dahil biyaya sila ng Panginoon. Gusto kong yakapin si Bunso sa Pasko. Gustung gusto ko'ng sabihin sa kaniya'ng nandito ako para sa kaniya. Gusto kong sabihin na alam ko'ng 'di sapat ang isang balikbayan box kapalit ng pagmamahal ko bilang nanay niya.

Pero pansamantalaga, magbibilang pa ulit ako ng tatlong buwan para mayakap ulit si Bunsoy. Sabi ko sa ninang niya, 'wag na siyang regaluhan sa Pasko. Bigyan na lang niya ka'ko ng mahigpit na yakap ang anak ko para maramdaman niya kahit papaano na may nagmamahal sa kaniya this Christmas. Merry Christmas to everyone. Ishini-share ko lang ito sa inyo dahil I know everybody is busy buying things para sa Pasko. I want to remind everyone that the true essence of Christmas is to give love. Mas masuwerte pa rin ang mga anak ninyo dahil kumpleto ang pamilya nila sa Pasko. Give thanks to God for that blessing.

TIME

The skit is in three parts and has places indicated for songs to be sung. With songs it runs

about 45 minutes long. Narrators may read their scripts. The actors have a few lines.

SYNOPSIS

Narrators 1 & 2 tell the traditional Christmas story while costumed performers act out the

story onstage. Narrator #2 admits at the beginning that he is not sure he believes it all.

He had believed in Santa Claus (and you know what happened there!) Narrator #1 agrees

to tell him the story, to see if he will believe it. “But” he warns “whether you believe it

or not… it’s still true. And the really good thing is that, since it’s true, no one can ever

take it away from you!” The Narrators take turns reading the script as the actors portray

the various parts onstage. Occasionally the actors interact with the Narrators; Mary in

particular speaks several time to Narrator #2 asking him if he believes yet. Narrator #2

likes Mary (thinking she is very beautiful). He becomes more engaged with the story as

it continues, wondering what will happen to Mary and to the baby Jesus. At the end, he

is convinced that the story is true. He finds it really is “A Christmas to Believe In!”

SETTING

The stage is open except for two stands for Narrators in front or to side of the stage.

Narrators must have lighting available to read from scripts.

SONGS

The songs indicated in the play are just suggestions. You may opt to have children’s

choirs, or the congregation, sing with the actors onstage at the appropriate times.

PROPS

One manger. And a poster which reads “His name is to be JOHN!”

Type: A Christmas Skit

For: Elementary age children

Characters: About 12 actors and actresses:

Narrators (1-3)

Soldiers, Shepherds (can be played by same actors in different

costumes)

Costumes: Easy, loose fitting items such as large pieces of cloth tied at the waist for

tunics. Big pieces of fabric for shawls and head coverings. Sandals for

feet (or bare feet). Crowns and fancy things for the kings. Shields and/or

armor for the soldiers. (Cardboard, spray painted gold, makes good

shields.) Narrators may want to wear matching clothes or Christmas

outfits.

Props: Manger. Baby Doll with blankets to represent Baby Jesus.

Chair for Angel to drag around and stand on.

Optional: Throne or really big chair for King Herod

Stuffed animal type sheep for the shepherds to “watch” or carry around

Sound: Microphones on one side of stage for 2-3 Narrators. Other characters may

need to have a microphone. Check ANGEL, MARY and KING HEROD.

Setting: Stage is set for a traditional Christmas play. You may like to decorate

with poinsettias, Christmas trees, wreaths, etc.

DIRECTOR’S NOTES:

• When planning your Christmas event, invite the pastor, or Children’s

Leader to welcome the congregation, to pray, and to introduce the play.

• If you like you may wish to include some Christmas songs either before or

after the play. Some suggested song titles follow.

• Christmas cookies and punch go great after a pageant! Enjoy!

JUST A LITTLE CHRISTMAS

(Children’s Version)

[SETTING –A MANGER set up at CENTERSTAGE FRONT with the DOLL

representing Baby Jesus hidden nearby. Microphones set up for Narrators.]

[LIGHTS UP ONSTAGE]

[NARRATORS ENTER and take positions near microphones.]

Narrator 1: A long time ago in a city of Nazareth there was a woman named Mary.

[MARY ENTERS and moves to CENTERSTAGE.]

Narrator 1: Mary was promised to marry a man named Joseph, who lived there too.

[JOSEPH ENTERS and moves to STAGE LEFT.]

Narrator 2: One day, an angel from God came and talked to Mary.

[ANGEL ENTERS dragging a chair and moves to CENTERSTAGE]

Narrator 2: He told Mary she was going to have a baby.

[ANGEL sets chair near MARY and stands up on chair before saying line.]

Angel: Mary, you’re going to have a baby! And He will be the Son of God.

[MARY looks up at ANGEL and says line happily, like there’s no problem]

Mary: Oh, OK!

Narrator 3: (as if giving directions to angel) And then the angel left!

[ANGEL gets down off of chair and drags it towards CENTERSTAGE BACK and

waits there.]

Narrator 3: Now, Joseph wasn’t sure what to do when he heard that Mary was going

to have a baby.

[JOSEPH paces back and forth and looks worried.]

Narrator 3: So, one night while he was asleep, the angel came to talk to Joseph too.

[ANGEL drags chair to STAGE LEFT, positions chair near JOSEPH, and gets up

on chair before saying line.]

Angel: Joseph, Mary is going to have a baby from God. It’s OK for you to marry

her and take care of her and the baby. You will name the baby Jesus.

Joseph: Oh, OK!

Narrator 3: And, so that’s just what he did.

[JOSEPH walks over to MARY, offers her his arm, and they walk back to STAGE

LEFT.]

[ANGEL EXITS dragging the chair.]

[EMPEROR ENTERS and stands at STAGE RIGHT.]

Narrator 1: A while later, the Emperor in Rome, Caesar Augustus, said that everyone

had to go to their own hometown to be counted.

Emperor: Everyone go to your own hometown, so that I can count you!

[EMPEROR EXITS.]

Narrator 1: So Mary and Joseph went to the town of Bethlehem to be counted,

because Joseph was of the house and line of David. And Bethlehem was

known as the City of David.

[MARY and JOSEPH walk to CENTERSTAGE FRONT near MANGER.]

Narrator 2: There were lots of other people there too. There were so many people, in

fact, that there was no room for them in the inn. So, Mary and Joseph

stayed in a stable, which was a place for animals to stay warm and dry.

Narrators 2 and 3: There was a cow there. (Mooo)

There was a sheep there. (Baaaa)

There was a chicken there. (Bock Bock Bock.)

And Mary and Joseph stayed there too.

Narrator 1: While they were there, baby Jesus was born and Mary took him and

wrapped Him up warm and laid Him in the manger.

[MARY takes baby doll and places it in manger.]

Narrator 2: That night there were some shepherds out in the fields watching over their

flocks of sheep. SKIT – JUST A LITTLE CHRISTMAS (Children’s Version) PAGE 3



[SHEPHERDS ENTER at STAGE LEFT. They may be carrying stuffed-animal

type sheep.]

Shepherd: (Baaaa)

[ANGEL ENTERS dragging the chair again. When SHEPHERDS see ANGEL

they fall down on their faces and quake in fear.]

Narrator 2: And the angel came and talked to the shepherds. And they were terribly

afraid.

[ANGEL gets up on chair, before saying line.]

Angel: Don’t be afraid! I bring you good news! The Savior, which is Christ the

Lord, has been born today in Bethlehem! You will find the baby wrapped

in soft cloths and lying in a manger!

Narrator 2: And all of a sudden there were lots of angels saying…

All Narrators: Glory to God in the highest. Peace on Earth! Good will to men!

[ANGEL waves arms back and forth]

Narrator 2: And then the angels left.

[ANGEL gets down off the chair and EXITS dragging the chair.]

Narrator 3: And when the angels had left, the shepherds went and found the baby

Jesus in the manger, just as they had been told.

[SHEPHERDS cross to CENTERSTAGE and kneel down by MANGER.]

Narrator 3: And when they found Him, they worshiped Him.

Narrator 1: Not far away, in a place called Jerusalem, there lived an evil King named

Herod.

[KING HEROD and SOLDIERS ENTER from STAGE RIGHT with throne. KING

HEROD sits on throne and SOLDIERS stand on either side of throne.]

[SHEPHERDS EXIT at STAGE LEFT.]\

Narrator 1: One day after baby Jesus had been born, wise men came to Jerusalem

looking for the newly born King of the Jews. SKIT – JUST A LITTLE CHRISTMAS (Children’s Version) PAGE 4



[3 WISE MEN ENTER carrying gifts and cross to STAGE RIGHT.]

Narrator 2: They asked King Herod where He was.

3 Kings: Where is he who is born “King of the Jews”?

Narrator 3: So the king asked his advisors.

King Herod: Where is this King of the Jews to be born?

Narrator 3: In Bethlehem.

King Herod: (to kings) In Bethlehem. Go and find Him and let me know where He is

so I can come and worship Him too.

Narrator 2: So the wise men went and found baby Jesus by following His star and

when they found Him, they worshiped Him.

[WISE MEN CROSS to CENTERSTAGE and kneel down. They place their gifts

near the MANGER.]

Narrator 3: But King Herod didn’t really want to worship baby Jesus. He wanted to

harm Him. The wise men were warned by God about this, so they went

home another way.

[WISE MEN EXIT without going back towards KING HEROD.]

Narrator 3: When the King found out he was tricked, he was really mad!

King Herod: Arrghh!! I am really mad!!!

Narrator 1: He was determined to destroy this newborn king! So King Herod sent his

soldiers to Bethlehem to find the baby Jesus.

King Herod: (speaking to soldiers) Go and find Him and destroy HIM!

[KING HEROD points to CENTERSTAGE! SOLDIERS don’t move yet.]

[ANGEL ENTERS dragging chair to CENTERSTAGE, where ANGEL stops and

stands on chair.]

Narrator 1: But God warned Joseph in a dream to GET OUT OF THERE!

Angel: (shouting with hands cupped around mouth)…GET OUT OF THERE!

[MARY and JOSEPH EXIT at STAGE LEFT QUICKLY.]

[ANGEL stays on chair and watches activity onstage.]

[SOLDIERS cross to CENTERSTAGE and look disappointed because they missed

Mary and Joseph! ANGEL looks very happy!]

Narrator 2: And so Joseph and Mary and the little baby Jesus went to Egypt. And

they stayed there until the evil King Herod died.

[KING HEROD “plays dead”. SOLDIERS carry or drag King Herod offstage.]

Narrator 2: After King Herod died, God told Joseph it was safe to come back because

the people who wanted the child dead had now died.

Angel: (shouting to Mary and Joseph, who are still offstage) HEY! You can

COME BACK NOW!!! IT’S SAFE!!

[MARY and JOSEPH ENTER and move to STAGE LEFT.]

Narrator 3: Mary and Joseph and baby Jesus came back from Egypt. And they went

to live in the town of Nazareth again.

Narrator 3: And that’s where baby Jesus grew up… until He was grown.

[ALL ACTORS ENTER and stand across the stage facing the audience.]

Narrator 1: And so now you’ve heard it all: About how God sent His Only Son to be

born as a baby, so that later He could save everyone from their sins. And

all it took was…

All Narrators: …Just a Little Christmas!

SYNOPSIS: This skit tells the traditional Christmas Story, starting with the scriptures

prophesying the coming of the Messiah and continuing through the birth of

Jesus. Much of the narration and dialogue is taken directly from the Holy

Scriptures; as such it represents the events of the first Christmas as taken

from “The Book”: The Word of God – The HOLY BIBLE.

SETTING: Ancient Israel including Nazareth, Bethlehem, and the stable

COSTUMES:Should resemble costumes from ancient Israel. (Robes, large pieces of

fabric tied at waist, sandals or bare feet, and pieces of fabric for head

coverings.) Shepherds may have a shepherd’s crook. Kings may have

crowns and gifts (gold, frankincense, and myrrh.)

LIGHTS: Lights and spotlights on stage.

SOUND: Narrators must be able to easily reach their microphone(s) without moving

PROPS: Manger

Gifts (representing gold, frankincense, and myrrh)

Baby Doll wrapped in Blanket (to represent Baby Jesus)

SLIDES: You may wish to project slides of various scripture verses, or song words

STAGING: Consider placing the stable and manger onstage from the beginning, as if

foreshadowing the birth of Christ, which is foretold. Have a light or

spotlight dedicated to it during the skit. Bring light up or down as desired.

SONGS: Suggested songs may be omitted, replaced or used as desired. Options

Christmas by The Book

[As the skit opens, the stage is empty except for a stable and manger.]

[HOUSE LIGHTS DOWN. STAGE LIGHTS UP.]

[NARRATORS #1-3 ENTER and take positions, where they stay. They may be

seated at STAGE LEFT, or offstage, if they may still be seen by the audience.]

[NOTE: Do NOT read the scripture references, which are listed in parentheses!]

Narrator #1: For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be

on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,

Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6)

Narrator #2: Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will

reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding

it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal

of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this. (Isaiah 9:7)

Narrator #3: The words of the Old Testament prophet Isaiah, quoted here before you,

ring down through the years (over 2000 of them) to us today. Who do

they describe? Of whom do they speak? They tell of the Messiah; the

Promised One; the Christ, who was to be the Savior of mankind.

Narrator #1: He is the One who was promised as early as the Garden of Eden; when

God said that the “Seed of the Woman” would one day come and crush

the head of the Serpent, who would only be able to strike at His heel.

Narrator #2: But there were other words as well. Words telling us how He would be

born…

Narrator #3: Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child

and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel. (Isaiah 7:14)

Narrator #2: And even where He would be born…

Narrator #1: But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among

the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will be the

shepherd of my people Israel. (Micah 5:2, Matthew 2:6)

Narrator #2: That’s enough of prophesy for now! We have met together to hear of the

fulfillment of the prophesies; of the coming of the Messiah, The Promised

[BREAK #1 with Optional Song.]

[MARY ENTERS and stands or is seated at STAGE LEFT. In the dialogue that

follows, NARRATORS #1-3 intermittently seem to speak over one another.]

Narrator #1: A record of the genealogy of Jesus Christ the son of David, the son of

Abraham…

[Narrator #1 begins reading as if reading a very long list.]

Abraham was the father of Isaac,

Isaac the father of Jacob… (Matthew 1:1 and following)

[Narrator #1 fades out. As Narrators #2 & 3 take turns speaking, Narrator #1

continues as if reading the Genealogy of Jesus from Matthew 1:2-6 very quietly.]

Narrator #2: The coming of the Messiah was of no small importance. It was imperative

that He come just as the scriptures had foretold and at just the right time.

The writers of the Gospels not only tell us of His Genealogy, but they tell

us about the facts surrounding His Birth, as recorded by eye-witnesses.

[As Narrator #2 finishes, Narrator #1 becomes louder again.]

Narrator #1: Boaz the father of Obed, whose mother was Ruth,

Obed the father of Jesse,

and Jesse the father of King David! (Matthew 1:2-6)

[Narrator #1 looks to Narrators #2 & 3 for approval. (High Fives, etc.) Then

Narrator #1 takes an audible deep breath and resumes “reading” the list.]

Narrator #1: David was the father of Solomon, whose mother had been Uriah’s wife,

Solomon the father of …

[Narrator #1 fades out again, but continues to act as if still reading…)

Narrator #3: Many have undertaken to draw up an account of the things that have been

fulfilled among us, just as they were handed down to us by those who

from the first were eyewitnesses and servants of the word. Therefore,

since I myself have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, it

seemed good also to me to write an orderly account for you … so that you

may know the certainty of the things you have been taught. (Luke 1:1-4)Skit – CHRISTMAS BY THE BOOK Sunday School Center



Narrator #1: (as if summing it all up…) …and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband

of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.

(very excited and pointing to script!) Thus there were fourteen

generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile

to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Christ!

[Narrators #2 & 3 give Narrator #1 more High Fives, etc.]

Narrator #2: All of these things were written down in God’s Word, the BIBLE, so that

we can know that they all happened and that they are all true. And that is

one of the reasons we are able to bring you…“Christmas by The Book.”

[SPOTLIGHT UP ON MARY.]

[MARY STANDS at STAGE LEFT. GABRIEL ENTERS and addresses her.]

Narrator #1: In the sixth month, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in

Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a

descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary.

GABRIEL: Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.

Narrator #2: Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of

greeting this might be. But the angel said to her…

GABRIEL: Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God.

You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the

name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High.

The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign

over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end.

MARY: How will this be, since I am a virgin?

GABRIEL: The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will

overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.

Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and

she who was said to be barren is in her sixth month. For nothing is

impossible with God.

MARY: I am the Lord’s servant. May it be to me as you have said.Skit – CHRISTMAS BY THE BOOK Sunday School Center



Narrator #3: Then the angel left her.

[GABRIEL EXITS. ELIZABETH ENTERS and stands STAGE RIGHT. MARY

gathers her things and moves to STAGE RIGHT to speak to ELIABETH.]

Narrator #3: At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of

Judea, where she entered Zechariah’s home and greeted Elizabeth.

When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and

Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. In a loud voice she exclaimed…

ELIZABETH: Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear! But

why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? As

soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my

womb leaped for joy. Blessed is she who has believed that what the Lord

has said to her will be accomplished!

MARY: My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he

has been mindful of the humble state of his servant.

From now on all generations will call me blessed, for the Mighty One has

done great things for me—holy is his name.

Narrator #1: Mary stayed with Elizabeth for about three months and then returned

home.

[MARY crosses to STAGE LEFT and EXITS. ELIZABETH EXITS.]

[JOSEPH ENTERS. He may act as if he is sawing wood, etc.]

Narrator #1: Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, a righteous man, who was a

carpenter in Nazareth.

Narrator #2: But before Mary and Joseph came together as husband and wife, Mary

was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit.

Narrator #3: Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and did not want to

expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly.Skit – CHRISTMAS BY THE BOOK Sunday School Center



[GABRIEL ENTERS. JOSEPH LIES DOWN to sleep.]

Narrator #1: But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in

a dream and said…

GABRIEL: Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife,

because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth

to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save

his people from their sins.

[GABRIEL EXITS. MARY ENTERS and stands across stage from JOSEPH.]

Narrator #2: All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet:

“The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call

him Immanuel”—which means, “God with us.”

[JOSEPH crosses to MARY and brings her back with him to his original spot.]

Narrator #3: When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had

commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. But he had no union

with her until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.

Narrator #1: In those days Caesar Augustus, who was the ruler in Rome, issued a

decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. And

everyone went to his own town to register.

[JOSEPH and MARY cross to stable and manger.]

Narrator #2: So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to

Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line

of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be

married to him and was expecting a child.

[MARY takes baby doll wrapped in cloths and places it in manger.]

Narrator #3: While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she

gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed

him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

[MARY and JOSEPH are at stable. SHEPHERDS ENTER at STAGE LEFT.

GABRIEL ENTERS.]

Narrator #1: And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch

over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the

glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel

said to them…

GABRIEL: Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the

people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is

Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in

cloths and lying in a manger.

Narrator #2: Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel,

praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace

to men on whom his favor rests.”

Narrator #3: When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said

to one another…

SHEPHERD: Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the

Lord has told us about.

[SHEPHERDS cross to Stable and Manger.]

Narrator #1: So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was

lying in the manger.

[SHEPHERDS EXIT through the audience, if possible, while acting as if they are

“spreading the word”.]

Narrator #2: When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been

told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the

shepherds said to them. But Mary treasured up all these things and

pondered them in her heart.

Narrator #3: The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they

had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

[MARY and JOSEPH are at STAGE LEFT with baby doll representing Jesus.

MAGI (WISE MEN) ENTER at STAGE RIGHT and speak to the audience.]

Narrator #1: After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King

Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked…

MAGI #1: “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews?

MAGI #2 We saw his star in the east…

MAGI #3 …and have come to worship him.”

Narrator #2: When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with

him. When he had called together all the people’s chief priests and

teachers of the law, he asked them where the Christ was to be born.

Narrator #3: “In Bethlehem in Judea,” they replied, “for this is what the prophet has

written: ‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least

among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will be the

shepherd of my people Israel.’”

Narrator #1: Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact

time the star had appeared. He sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go

and make a careful search for the child. As soon as you find him, report to

me, so that I too may go and worship him.”

[MAGI (Wise Men) cross to STAGE LEFT and find MARY and JOSEPH.]

Narrator #2: After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they

had seen in the east went ahead of them until it stopped over the place

where the child was.

[MAGI (Wise Men) rejoice and present their gifts.]

Narrator #3: When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house,

they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and

worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with

gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh.

[MAGI (Wise Men) EXIT by a different route than they came.]

Narrator #1: And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they

[MARY and JOSEPH are at STAGE LEFT ASLEEP. GABRIEL ENTERS.]

Narrator #1: When they had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a

dream.

GABRIEL: Get up, take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until

I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.

[JOSEPH takes MARY and baby to far edge of stage and “hides” there.]

Narrator #2: So he got up, took the child and his mother during the night and left for

Egypt, where he stayed until the death of Herod. And so was fulfilled what

the Lord had said through the prophet: “Out of Egypt I called my son.”

Narrator #3: After Herod died, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in

Egypt and said…

[GABRIEL ENTERS.]

GABRIEL: Get up, take the child and his mother and go to the land of Israel, for those

who were trying to take the child’s life are dead.

[GABRIEL EXITS.]

Narrator #1: So he got up, took the child and his mother and went to the land of Israel,

and he went and lived in a town called Nazareth

[MARY and JOSEPH and baby EXIT.]

Narrator #2: So was fulfilled what was said through the prophets: “He will be called a

Nazarene.”

Narrator #3: We know the story. Most of us have heard it many times before. But it is

as ageless as it is true. The Messiah who was spoken of in the

prophecies had come. And the world would never be the same!

Narrator #1: This same Jesus was the one who would grow to be a man and eventually

die on the cross to “save his people from their sins” just as the angel had

Narrator #2: And after He died on the cross, He rose from the dead on the third day,

and later ascended into heaven. Proving (as Peter said) that “God has

made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.”

Narrator #3: This story of prophecies fulfilled is still there today in the Bible, for anyone

to read; so that we may all know the truth of … “Christmas by The Book!”

[ALL CAST assembles onstage.]

Type: A Christmas Skit

For: Young Teens to perform for Younger Audiences.

Characters: About 12 actors and actresses:

Narrators (1-3)

Mary

Joseph

Angel

Emperor Caesar Augustus / King Herod

3 Kings

Soldiers, Shepherds (can be played by same actors in different costumes)

Costumes: Easy, loose fitting items such as large pieces of cloth tied at the waist for tunics.

Big pieces of fabric for shawls and head coverings. Sandals for feet (or bare feet).

Crowns and fancy things for the kings. Shields and/or armor for the soldiers.

(Cardboard, spray painted gold, makes good shields.) Use two different crowns

for Caesar and Herod. Narrators may wear matching clothes or Christmas outfits.

For actor playing Herod and Caesar; have a crown for one and a garland for other.

Props: Manger. Baby Doll with blankets to represent Baby Jesus.

Chair for Angel to drag around and stand on.

Optional: Throne or really big chair for King Herod

Stuffed animal type sheep for the shepherds to “watch” or carry around

Sound: Microphones on one side of stage for 2-3 Narrators. Other characters may need to

have a microphone. Check ANGEL, MARY and KING HEROD.

Setting: Stage is set for a traditional Christmas play. You may like to decorate with

poinsettias, Christmas trees, wreaths, etc.

Section ONE

Mary, Joseph and Angel

[SETTING – STAGE IS EMPTY except for microphones set up for Narrators.]

[LIGHTS UP ONSTAGE]

[NARRATORS ENTER and take positions near microphones.]

Narrator 1: Over 2000 years ago in a city called Nazareth there was a young woman

who was named Mary.

[MARY ENTERS and moves to CENTERSTAGE.]

Narrator 1: Mary was promised to marry a man named Joseph, who lived there too.

[JOSEPH ENTERS and moves to STAGE LEFT.]

Narrator 2: One day, an angel from God came and talked to Mary.

[ANGEL ENTERS carrying a chair and moves to CENTERSTAGE]

Narrator 2: He told Mary that she was going to have a baby. And that the baby was to

be the Son of God.

[ANGEL sets chair near MARY and stands up on chair. After ANGEL gets up on

chair he/she straightens robes and clears throat and then says line loudly.]

Angel: Hey Mary! You’re going to have a baby! And He will be the Son of God.

[MARY looks up at ANGEL and says line happily, like there’s no problem]

Mary: Oh, OK!

Narrator 3: (as if giving directions to angel) And then the angel left!

[ANGEL gets down off of chair and drags it towards CENTERSTAGE BACK and

waits there.]

Narrator 3: Now, Joseph wasn’t sure what to do when he heard that Mary was going

to have a baby.

[JOSEPH paces back and forth and looks worried.]

Narrator 3: So one night while he was asleep…SKIT - JUST A LITTLE CHRISTMAS – (Teens’ Version) PAGE 2



[JOSEPH keeps pacing….]

Narrator 3: Ahem… I said… “ONE NIGHT WHILE HE WAS ASLEEP…!!

[JOSEPH picks up his cue and lies down on ground as if asleep.]

Narrator 3: (now in a normal tone of voice) One night while he was asleep, the angel

came to talk to Joseph too.

[ANGEL carries chair to STAGE LEFT, positions chair near JOSEPH and gets

up on chair. Clears throat, straightens robe and says line loudly.]

Angel: Hey Joseph! Mary is going to have a baby from God. It’s OK for you to

marry her and take care of her and the baby. You will name the baby

Jesus.

Joseph: Oh, OK!

Narrator 3: And, so that’s just what he did.

[JOSEPH walks over to MARY, offers her his arm, and they EXIT together.]

[ANGEL EXITS as well… carrying the chair.]

[NARRATORS EXIT or sit down near microphones].

Herod, Soldiers, Mary, Joseph, All Actors

[LIGHTS UP ONSTAGE]

[EMPEROR ENTERS at STAGE RIGHT.]

[MARY and JOSEPH ENTER and stand STAGE LEFT.]

Narrator 1: A while later, the Emperor in Rome, Caesar Augustus, said that everyone

had to go to their own hometown to be counted.

Emperor: Everyone go to your own hometown, so that I can count you!

[EMPEROR EXITS.]

Narrator 1: So Mary and Joseph went to Joseph’s hometown of Bethlehem.

[MARY and JOSEPH start walking slowly all the way across the stage and then

back to CENTERSTAGE. As they do this ALL OTHER ACTORS ENTER and

jostle around near CENTERSTAGE as MARY and JOSEPH are “traveling”.

Finally MARY and JOSEPH arrive at Bethlehem or CENTERSTAGE.]

(NOTE: One of the actresses needs to be carrying a baby doll. One of the actors

needs to be carrying a manger.)

Narrator 1: There were lots of other people there too. There were so many people, in

fact, that there was no room for them in the inn. So, they stayed in a

stable, which was a place where the animals stayed warm and dry.

[ALL ACTORS step back behind MARY and JOSEPH and face audience.

VARIOUS ACTORS make barnyard animal noises on cue next.]

Narrator 2: There was a cow there. (Mooo)

There was a sheep there. (Baaaa)

There was a chicken there. (Bock Bock Bock.)

And Mary and Joseph stayed there too.

[ONE ACTRESS hands baby doll prop to MARY. ONE ACTOR places the

manger CENTERSTAGE. MARY takes baby doll and places it in manger.]

Narrator 3: While they were there, baby Jesus was born and Mary took him and

wrapped Him up warm and laid Him in the manger.

Shepherds, Angel

[LIGHTS UP ONSTAGE]

[NARRATORS STAND at microphones.]

Narrator 1: That night there were some shepherds out in the fields watching over their

flocks of sheep.

[SHEPHERDS ENTER and move to CENTERSTAGE. They may be carrying

stuffed-animal type sheep.]

Shepherd: (Baaaa)

[ANGEL ENTERS dragging the chair again. When SHEPHERDS see ANGEL

they fall down on their faces and quake in fear.]

Narrator 1: And the angel came and talked to the shepherds. And they were terribly

afraid.

[ANGEL gets up on chair, straightens robes and says line loudly.]

Angel: Don’t be afraid! I am bringing you good news! Jesus is born in

Bethlehem! He is the Savior for all peoples. You will find Him lying in a

manger!

Narrator 2: And all of a sudden there were lots of angels saying…

[ANGEL waves arms back and forth]

Narrator 2: And then the angels left….

[ANGEL doesn’t leave. ANGEL just keeps on waving arms back and forth.]

Narrator 2: Ahem… I said, AND THEN THE ANGELS LEFT!!!

[ANGEL gets down off the chair and EXITS dragging the chair.]

Narrator 3: And when the angels had left, the shepherds went to find baby Jesus in the

manger, just as they had been told.

Narrator 3: And when they found Him, they worshiped Him.

SECTION FOUR

King Herod, Soldiers, 3 Kings, Mary, Joseph, Angel and All Actors

[LIGHTS UP ONSTAGE]

[NARRATORS STAND at microphones.]

[KING HEROD and SOLDIERS ENTER with throne and sit or stand at STAGE

RIGHT. KING HEROD SITS on throne. SOLDIERS stand at side of throne.]

Narrator 1: Not far away from Bethlehem, in a place called Jerusalem, there lived a

King named Herod. Herod was an evil man, who was not interested in

sharing the power over his kingdom with anyone else.

[3 WISE MEN ENTER and cross to STAGE RIGHT.]

Narrator 1: One day after baby Jesus had been born, wise men came to Jerusalem

looking for the newly born King of the Jews.

Narrator 1: They asked King Herod where He was.

3 Kings: Where is he who is born “King of the Jews”?

Narrator 2: So the king asked his advisors.

King Herod: Where is this King of the Jews to be born?

Narrator 2: In Bethlehem.

King Herod: (to kings) In Bethlehem. Go and find Him and let me know where He is

so I can come and worship Him too.

[MARY and JOSEPH ENTER with doll in arms and sit at STAGE LEFT.]

Narrator 2: So the wise men went and found baby Jesus by following His star and they

worshiped Him.

[WISE MEN CROSS to STAGE LEFT and worship baby Jesus.]

Narrator 3: But King Herod didn’t really want to worship baby Jesus. He wanted to

kill Him. The wise men were warned by God about this, so they went

home another way.

[WISE MEN EXIT without going back towards KING HEROD.]

Narrator 3: When the King found out he was tricked, he was really mad! SKIT - JUST A LITTLE CHRISTMAS – (Teens’ Version) PAGE 8



King Herod: Arrghh!! I am really mad!!! The wise men tricked me!

Narrator 1: So King Herod sent his soldiers to go and kill all the little male babies in

Bethlehem who were two years old and younger.

King Herod: (speaking to soldiers) Go and kill all the little male babies in Bethlehem

who are two years old and younger!

[SOLDIERS look busy but don’t move until after next line.]

[ANGEL ENTERS dragging chair to CENTERSTAGE, where ANGEL stops and

stands on chair.]

Narrator 1: But God warned Joseph in a dream to…

Angel: (shouting with hands cupped around mouth)…GET OUT OF THERE!

Narrator 1: And so they did.

[MARY and JOSEPH EXIT QUICKLY just before the SOLDIERS get to STAGE

LEFT. ANGEL stays on chair and watches activity onstage.]

[SOLDIERS look disappointed because they missed Mary and Joseph!]

Narrator 2: And so Joseph and Mary and the little baby Jesus went to Egypt. And

they stayed there until the evil King Herod died.

[KING HEROD “plays dead”. SOLDIERS carry or drag King Herod offstage.]

Narrator 2: After King Herod died, God told Joseph it was safe to come back because

the people who wanted the child dead had now died.

Angel: (shouting to Mary and Joseph, who are still offstage) HEY! You can

COME BACK NOW!!! IT’S SAFE!!

[MARY and JOSEPH ENTER and move to CENTERSTAGE near ANGEL, who is

still standing on the chair.]

Narrator 3: Mary and Joseph and baby Jesus came back from Egypt. And they went

to live in the town of Nazareth again.

Narrator 3: And that’s where baby Jesus grew up… until He was grown.

Narrator 1: And so now you’ve heard it all: About how God sent His Only Son to be

born as a baby, so that later He could save everyone from their sins. And

all it took was…

All Narrators: …Just a Little Christmas!
