    260000 PreDesignRequirementsElectrical LoadMonitoring: Investigate the existing electrical service/distributionsystem and determine if sufficient capacity is available to accommodate the newloads.MeterreadingsarerequiredperNEC.ExistingElectrical Installation: Investigateallexistingelectrical installationssuchasexistingconcealedconduit runs,conduit types/sizes,cable types/sizes,panelboardtypes/sizes,electricalequipment locations,etc.,whichpotentially impact thenewinstallation.Compliance with NAU Technical Standards: the Design Professional shall submitthese Technical Standards to the NAU Electrical Shop prior to design anddevelopmentofprojectspecifications,withcomplyornoncomplymarkednexttoeachapplicableprovision.Providejustificationforallnoncomplyprovisions.CalculationsTheDesign Professional shall prepare and submit calculations as required by thetypeofdesignworkperformed.Calculationsshalljustifyorsupportthefollowing:

    Lightingdesigns Sizeofeachconductor Sizeofeachovercurrentprotectivedevice Sizeofeachequipmentbus Sizeofeachtransformer Sizeofeachgeneratorandtransferswitch Settingofeachovercurrentprotectivedevicewithadjustablecharacteristics RequiredPPEtomeetarcflashincidentenergylevels

    ItistheresponsibilityoftheDesignProfessionaltodeterminewhichcalculationsareperformedbytheDESIGNPROFESSIONAL,andwhichcalculationsaretobespecifiedby theDesign Professional and performed by the Contractor. Not all calculationtypeswillberequiredforallprojects. NAUreservestherighttorequestadditionalcalculationstosuittheproject.TheDesignProfessional shall submit the following calculations toNAUduring thedesignprocess:

    Lightingcalculations Faultcurrentcalculations Protectivedevicecoordinationstudy Arcflashcalculations(whennotrequiredtobeperformedbytheContractor) Loadcalculations

    Generatorand/orUPSsizingcalculations Voltagedropcalculations Harmonicdistortioncalculations Lightningprotectionsystemriskanalysis

    FaultCurrentCalculations:Prepareandsubmitcalculationsforallnewprojectsandrenovations toexistingelectricaldistributionsystems. Theavailable faultcurrentsshallbe includedon the riserdiagrams,and shall show theavailable faultcurrent(expressedinamperes,RMSsymmetrical)ateachovercurrentprotectivedeviceandtransformer inthesystem. Supportingcalculations(suchasthoseresultingfromaSKMPowerToolsanalysis)thatjustifythesummaryavailablefaultcurrentsontheriserdiagramsmaybesubmittedseparatelyin8.5x11format.CoordinationStudy:Preparecoordinationcurvestodeterminetherequiredsettingsof overcurrent protective deviceswith adjustable trip characteristics. TheDesignProfessionalshallverifyfieldsettingsattimeofprojectcompletion.ArcFlashCalculations:Perform,orspecify,anarcflashanalysis inaccordancewithIEEE Std 1584a. For each bus analyzed, determine the following: Flash HazardProtection Boundary, Incident Energy Level, Required Personal ProtectiveEquipment Category, Type of Fire Rated Clothing, Limited Approach Boundary,Restricted Approach Boundary, and Prohibited Approach Boundary. Present, orspecifytobesubmitted,thedatadeterminedbytheanalysisinatabularformat,andsubmit,orspecify tobesubmitted, thepreparationofarc flashwarning labels foreachpieceofelectricalequipment, showing the items listedaboveaswellas thedateofissue.LoadCalculations:Prepareandsubmitloadcalculationsthatjustifythesizeofeachbranch circuit and feeder, overcurrent protective device, transformer, andequipment bus (panelboard, switchboard, switchgear, automatic transfer switch,etc.). Calculations shall be performed at all voltage levels. The method ofcalculation, including all applicableNECdiversity factors andnoncoincident loadsandtheiremploymentatvarious levelsoftheelectricalsystem,aswellascapacityreserved for future load, shallbe clearlypresented in thedrawings. Calculationsmaybeinpanelscheduleandswitchboardscheduleformat.ItshallbepossiblefortheNAUreviewertofollowtheloadflowfromthelowestleveltothehighestleveloftheriserdiagrams.GeneratorSizingCalculations: Prepareandsubmitcalculationsthat justifythesizeofeachgenerator, includingall loadsdownstreamof thegenerator set(s)and thesizingimpactsofproposedloadsteps,significantmotorloads,nonlinearloads,andcapacityreservedforfutureloads.

    Voltage Drop Calculations: Prepare and submit calculations demonstratingcompliancewiththefollowingvoltagedroplimits:2%forfeeders,and3%forbranchcircuits,takenatdesignload.Harmonic Analysis: Prepare and submit calculations estimating the voltage andcurrenttotalharmonicdistortion(THD)forbusesrichinnonlinearloads.Usethesecalculationstojustifyactiveorpassivecomponentstomitigateharmonicdistortion.Lighting Calculations: Lighting calculations shall include the room name, roomnumber,fixturetypechosenfortheroom,numberandtypeoflampstobeusedintheroom,requiredilluminationlevel,calculatedilluminationlevel,andlightlossandreflectance assumptions used. Calculations for most interior spaces may beperformed using the zonal cavity method. Perform and submit pointbypointfootcandlelevel calculations for areas of greater architectural or luminoussophistication, and outdoor areas. The Design Professional shall submit exterioroutdoor pointbypoint footcandlelevel calculations and accompanying luminairecutsheets to the Dark Sky Committee for review. Calculations shall includedemonstratedcompliancewithenergyconservationmeasuresandcodes.DesignRequirementsRefertotheCodesandStandardsadoptedbyNAU.

    Sustainability: Provide metering and submetering as required to accomplishmeasurementandverificationgoals. Provideconduitpath(s) from the roof to theelectrical service entrance equipment to facilitate connection of roofmountedphotovoltaicsystems.Performlifecycleanalyseswhererequiredtosupportprojectgoals.Allmaterialsshallbenew,listedbyUnderwritersLaboratories.Electrical equipment spaces shall not be located beneath toilets, showers,laboratories,kitchens,sinks,opencourtyards,planters,roofdrain leaders,orotherareas where water service is provided. Electrical equipment spaces shall bedesigned to allow maintenance equipment access, and to facilitate equipmentreplacementwithoutdemolitionand reconstructionother than removalofadoorcenterpost.The Design Professional shall show electrical equipment footprints andaccompanyingNECworkingclearancesonthedrawings.Providethesameworkingclearancefornonfusedswitchesasisrequiredforfusedswitches.

    Anypipeorductsystemforeigntotheelectrical installationshallnotenterorpassthroughanelectricalequipment space. TheDesignProfessional shallensure thatforeignpipingsuchaswaterpipes,steampipes,medicalgaspipes,sanitarywastepipes,roofdrains,A/Cductsandotherunrelatedpipingsystemscontaining liquidsor gases arenot installedorpass through electrical equipment spaces. Sprinklerpipingshallnotberouted throughelectricalrooms,unless itserves toprotect theelectricalinstallation.Electrical equipment spaces shall have the necessary mechanical ventilation orcooling system to maintain the indoor temperature range required for properoperationoftheequipmentwithinitsULlisting.Electricalequipmentspacesthatcontainfreestandingelectricalequipmentshallbesizedsuchthatsufficientspaceisprovidedtoaddoneadditionalsectiontoeachunitoffreestandingequipment.Provideextendedpadspaceandspareconduitsthatwillfacilitate future installation of equipment and conductors. Spare space shall beindicatedondrawings.Electrical closets shallhave20% sparewall space for future installationof similarelectricalequipment.The Design Professional shall coordinate electrical metering and submeteringrequirements with NAU during design. NAU may wish to submeter separateoccupanciesorareaswithinabuilding.Sustainability: Building electrical service equipment shall have breaker space toacceptconnectionofgridtiedphotovoltaicsystems.InstallationRequirementsAll electrical equipment, disconnects, starters, panels, devices and plates shall beinstalledplumbandtrue.AllelectricalworkshallbeinspectedandapprovedbytheNAUElectricalShoporitsdesigneebeforebeingcovered. AlltestsaretobeobservedbytheNAUElectricalShoporitsdesignee.Any ele
