As your District 47 Governor, I pledge to support you as you develop communica- tion and leadership skills and achieve your goals. We would like all members in Clubs across the District to commit themselves to earning as many education goals as possible in this fiscal year. Last year, we had members earning as many as four- teen education awards. WOW... Imagine that! If they could do it, you can do it too! Earning education awards means clubs are meeting regularly and members are given the opportunity to overcome speaking fears at the lectern. As Toastmasters, we can all agree that the harder we work, the greater our rewards. Preparing for assignments and attending meetings may seem challenging at times, but you must be prepared to stick with it and give it your all. This year, we want ALL clubs in our District to be Distinguished and this goal can be accomplished with your help and the assistance of your Area and Division Governors. If you are a new member, take advantage of the “Mentoring Program”, it works! There is an answer to every question so, never feel as though you are working alone... Welcome to the New Toastmasters Year 2011 – 2012 just ask and you WILL have the support and encouragement of your Fellow Toastmasters. Be willing to meet new friends and be open to receive constructive feedback from your weekly assignments and manual projects. Take the feedback, work at polishing your act and I guarantee you will become a great Toastmaster. If you are a Club President, take the liberty to appoint a team of Advisers who can give guidance and support during your term in office. Once we equip ourselves with the tools for success, it is our duty as members to “Talk Up Toastmasters” in our community. The results in membership growth will be overwhelming. Introduce at least one new person to Toastmasters and encourage them to become a member. Imagine the possibilities! If each of our 5,500 members encourage at least one person to join, our District will double in size in one year. I believe we can do this…do you? There are many exciting things planned this year and we will introduce Club incentives to you in our August edition of the Sun- shiner. Take a moment and check out the Toastmasters International website at www.toastmasters.org to learn more about the Toastmasters brand refresh. On August 17, 2011, the first day of the Toastmasters International Convention, Toastmasters will officially unveil its refreshed brand! This month, Toastmasters International randomly selected a group of Club Presidents and invited them to attend a brand orientation webinar. According to Toastmasters International, the primary objective of the rebrand is to communicate one consistent Toastmasters’ identity that is recognizable wherever you may be and accurately symbolizes the benefits of this great organization we are all proud to be a part. This year we have an incredibly energetic team of District Officers to serve you. We have committed ourselves to provide you with the support and resources required to make you a successful Toastmaster. Keep us updated as you meet your goals so we can celebrate with you. All the best on your communication and leadership journey and let’s make this a year of learning and fun. Kindest regards, Pamela D. Rolle, DTM District 47 Governor
