Words to Live By “United …..We will learn with Toastmasters”.

The theme of the 2008/2009 District 47 Team has been a constant reminder to us that unity is the key and Toastmasters is the lab for learning.

It is with mixed emotions that I say farewell to you, the members of District 47. It was truly a privilege and a great pleasure to serve you as your District 47 Gover-nor for the 2008/2009 Toastmaster Year. We have had our share of challenges and have also enjoyed tremendous success.

There are 81 Districts in the world; only 6 of those Dis-tricts can be PRESIDENT’S DISTINGUISHED DIS-TRICT. We are one of them!!! This is an amazing accomplishment in our first year as half of the previous District 47. There were not many people that believed we would have a chance…. But we did it!! There was never a doubt in my mind.

I wish to thank and congratulate each member for his/her achievement; each CC, CL, AC, AL, DTM, New Member, New Club, Officer trained and dues to Toast-masters International paid has made a significant im-pact on the District as we reached our goal.

You will all be with us in spirit as we take the stage at the Toastmasters International Convention in Mashan-tucket, CT in August. We will proudly accept the award from International President Jana Barnhill. This was a team effort. I’m so proud of you all.

I take this opportunity to wish the incoming District 47 Governor Kristina Kihlberg, DTM and her team the best of luck and a year of great success in 2009/2010. I also offer her my support and knowledge should she require any assistance.

Toastmasters of District 47, I encourage you to remain focused on your goals. Reach high. This is the best and cheapest program in the world to develop your skills as a communicator and leader. Toastmasters has so much to offer. We never really finish; there is always something new we can learn and more impor-tantly, teach to newer members.

I wish to personally thank all you for your commitment and dedication to continuing self development and leadership and look forward to seeing you at a Toast-masters event real soon.

CONFIDENCE - LEADERSHIP – SERVICE

This is the District 47 theme this year. It is the same theme as Toastmasters International 2009-2010, and I found it to be so powerful that I adopted it as well.

These three words are the basis of what we, the District

Leadership, promise our members this coming year.

We will lead you with CONFIDENCE. We want you to find YOUR CONFIDENCE by using the fantastic Toastmaster program. Soak up all that is there, so you can be the most CONFIDENT in all aspects of your life. Speak outside your Club, COMPETE in all contests, be an Officer, work through the Advanced Manuals, be really creative at your Club meetings. The more personal challenges you take on within the safe environment of Toastmasters, the more CONFIDENT you will be everywhere. DARE! Have the Courage to Conquer.

We will utilize our LEADERSHIP skills to SERVE you dur-ing this year. When you have found your CONFIDENCE, and have taken that step into the role as a Club Officer, it’s time for you to SERVE your Club members as a LEADER too. There are so many of you out there, that are about to soar. Give it a try! We know you can do it. Take

yourself to the next level; show your CONFIDENCE.

It all boils down to one thing – we are here to SERVE the members so they can continue to learn, develop and flour-ish. It’s all about the members! You all matter. You are

the reason we are here. It is our privilege to SERVE you.

Immediate Past District Governor, Antionette Fox, DTM, and the District Team of 2008-2009 did an outstanding job! We are a leader within the Toastmaster world - a PRESI-DENT's DISTINGUISHED DISTRICT. Only 6 Districts (out of 81) can reach this desirable accomplishment. We can tell that our members here in District 47 are winning! You have worked hard on improving your skills to become better communicators and leaders. Thank you.

We will expect the same for this year. Actually, we want to be #1 in the world!!! We want to continue to show the world how it’s done; how our members continue to em-brace all aspects of the Toastmaster program; how we use the manuals as our tools when we speak at the Club or outside; how we welcome new members to join; how we mentor these new members and lead by example; how we start new Clubs in corporations and communities so Toast-masters is available in all corners (or in our case, the cen-ter) of our District.
