WHY CRISTALINO LODGE?
The Southern Amazon is a unique destination.
And there are several reasons why you should
choose Cristalino Lodge for your visit to this
beautiful ecosystem. We have listed a few:
• BIODIVERSITY. The proximity of the
Pantanal and Cerrado biomes brings
species from those ecosystems to
the Southern Amazon, creating an
intermediary zone in the Amazon
rainforest that has a high level of
biodiversity and an extraordinary variety of
birds, mammals and butterflies.
• ALTITUDE. The terrain is higher than in
other Amazon regions, ranging from
270m to 450m. Flooding is therefore limit-
ed to very few areas, allowing guests to hike
along the trails all year round, which in turn
increases the chances of seeing wildlife.
• LANDSCAPE. The undulating
topography results in different types
of vegetation and greater biodiversity,
as the deciduous forests on the higher
trails provide a completely different type
of forest cover, in which the trees shed
their leaves during the dry season. The
region where Cristalino Lodge is located
contains six types of vegetation, each of
which provides a different landscape.
• UNIQUE SPECIES. The barrier effect
of the Tapajós, Teles Pires, Madeira
and Xingu rivers creates a high level of
endemism, since many Amazon species
do not cross these rivers and can only
be seen in the Southern Amazon.
• GUIDES. Professional guides with extensive
knowledge about the Amazon ensure a
very fruitful stay. The small group sizes
contribute to the personal experience.
ACTIVITIES
Cristalino Lodge offers a wide range of
outdoor activities, including:
• CANOEING. The calm waters of Cristalino
River are perfect for canoeing, with safe
and comfortable equipment provided.
• TRAILS. Nature tours along the 30-
km (19-mile) trail system offer in-
depth understanding of the tropical
ecosystem, conducted in small groups
to minimize disturbance to the forest.
• CANOPY TOWERS. For a truly unique
experience of the Amazon rainforest, a
visit to the Canopy Towers cannot be
missed. Soaring to 50-m (164-ft), with
waystations at various heights, climbers
can look out to panoramic views of the
reserve, with the vast forest canopy a
blanket of green at one’s feet.
• FLORA & FAUNA OBSERVATION.
Several flagship species of Brazilian
fauna and flora can be found in this
region, including: harpy eagle, Brazilian
tapir, giant otter, white-whiskered-
spider monkey, otter, white collared
peccary, white-nosed-saki monkey,
red-handed howler monkey, dusky-titi
monkey, cryptic falcon, crimson-bellied
parakeet, black-girdled barbet, paradise
tanager, crested owl, spangled cotinga,
pavonine quetzal, purple honeycreeper,
curl-crested aracari, great potoo, attalea
maripa, brazil-nut tree and mahogany.
This area has been highlighted by the
Brazilian Ministry of the Environment as
vital for conservation.
• BOAT TRIPS. Accompanied by guides,
the boat trips are ideal for observing
wildlife on the banks of the rivers.

WILDLIFE IN THE AMAZON
It is important to note that viewing animals
in the Amazon is a challenging task, because
of the forest environment. Many birds and
animals can only be seen with the help of
the telescope that the guides carry with
them. Nevertheless, the Cristalino region is
one of the richest when compared to other
parts of the Amazon due to the considerable
variety of types of vegetation and terrain,
thus making it more likely to see a variety of
species during your stay.
DRINKING WATER
There is free drinking water available for all
guests.
HEALTH CONSIDERATIONS
The participants should be in good health
and we recommend having basic health
examinations carried out by a doctor before
signing up for a package. The activities at
Cristalino Lodge are suitable for people of
all ages, requiring a moderate to low level
of exertion. Participants should prepare for
the tour by reading the suggested activities
and bringing the appropriate clothing and
equipment recommended by the lodge.
