    1910 Graduatedon3JunefromtheFirstBelgradeHighSchool;enrolledintheLawSchool

    attheUniversityofBelgrade.

    1914 CompletedhislecturesattheLawSchoolattheUniversityofBelgrade;on15July,Aus-

    tria-HungarydeclareswaronSerbia;WorldWarIbegins;on1SeptemberhejoinedtheStudentBattalion;on1November,hewaspromotedtocorporalandasearlyas3November,hewaspromotedtosergeantandtransferredtothe1stcompanyofthe2ndbattalion,the5thinfantryregiment,2ndbrigadeoftheDrinadivision.

    1915 On1January,PavleBeljanskiwaspromotedtostaffsergeantandthenretreatedwith

    thearmythroughAlbania;on19August,hewaspronouncedunfittoservebytheHighCommandMedicalpanelinSkadarandasanon-combatantinCorfu,hewasassignedtotheLiaisonunitoftheDanubedivision.

    1916 On16July,bytheDecreeoftheMinisterofWar,hewasrelievedofmilitaryduty;he

    resumedhislawstudiesinParis.

    1917 On17July,hegraduatedfromtheSorbonneasalawyerspecializinginthediplomat-

    ic-consularfield.

    1918 On15June,hereceivedhismastersdegreeattheSorbonneandregisteredhisdoc-

    toralthesisinthediplomatic-consularfield.

    1919 Hisdoctoralstudieswereinterruptedduetohisnewposition;on3Marchhebegan

    hisdiplomaticcareerasa1stclassclerkintheRoyalEmbassyinStockholmandon1Mayhewasalreadypromotedtosecretary;hestartedtakinganinterestincollectingart;on16July,PavleBeljanskiwasawardedwiththeOrderofIsabellatheCatholicofthe5thclass.

    1920 On1September,hebecamsecretaryintheBerlinEmbassy;on14February,hewas

    appointedsecretary,4thclass,intheWarsawEmbassy,on29JulyhewastransferredbacktoBerlin.

    1921 HereceivedaDiplomafromPopeBenedictXV.

    1922 On1February,hewasrelievedofdutyinBerlinandassignedtotheRoyalEmbassy

    inWarsaw;on13February,hewaspromotedtosecretary,2ndclass.

    1923 On14March,hewasappointedsecretaryoftheRoyalEmbassyinVienna;InVien-

    nahemetpainterMarinoTartagliaandposedforthepaintingYoung Diplomat;he

    decidedtoabandoncollectingpaintingsbyoldmasters(Luckily,Iceasedwiththisfutilebusinessin1923anddecidedtodedicatemyselfexclusivelytocollectingworksbyartistscomingfrommynativesoil);on2August,hewasawardedwiththeOrderofPoloniaRestituta,5thclass.

    1925 On9August,hewaspromotedtosecretaryinthe6thgroupofthe1stcategory;from

    25December,heworkedinthePoliticalDirectoryinBelgrade.

    1927 On13December,PavleBeljanskireceivedtheFrenchOrderoftheLegionofHonour

    ofthe5thclass.

    1928 HereceivedtheOrderoftheWhiteEagle,4thclassandtheOrderofPoloniaResti-

    tuta,3rdclass;on10April,hewaspromotedto5thgroupsecretary,1stcategory;on14MayhewasappointedgeneralmanagerofthePoliticalDirectoryintheMinistryofForeignAffairsinBelgrade;on28December,hewasappointedSection-manageroftheRoyaldelegationwiththeCommitteeofReparationsinParis.

    1929 On8February,hewasappointedchiefsecretaryoftheEmbassyinParis;on18March,

    atanauctionheldintheHtelDruotinParisheboughtthepaintingLa Toilette de lOdalisquebyVlahoBukovac,betterknowntodayasLa Grande Iza(1882);here-ceivedtheCzechOrderoftheWhiteLion4thclass.

    1930 On12June,hewasappointedCommissionerofGoodsDeliveryinParis;hestayedin

    Parisuntiltheendoftheyear,wherehemetthepainterMilanKonjovi.

    1931 On12November,hewastransferredtotheAdministrativeDepartmentinBelgrade;

    hewasawardedtheBelgianOrderofLeopold4thclass.

    1932 On21January,hewaspromotedtotherankofcounsellorofthe4thgroup,2ndclass;

    on17September,hewastransferredtoworkonspecialaffairsintheAdministrativeDepartment;hetravelledtoEgypt;hewasthebestmanatMiloMilunovisandOlgaBogdanovisweddinginBelgrade;from3to17November,M.elebonovi,M.Konjovi,M.MilunoviandJ.PeriparticipatedintheExhibition of Yugoslav ArtistsinParis.

    1933 On13March,Beljanskibecameheadofthe4thsectionoftheLegalDepartment;on

    3July,hewasbestmanattheweddingofPetarLubardaandJelenaJovanoviinBel-grade;attheinsistenceofMilanKaanin,hedonatedthepaintingLaundress(1932)byM.Konjovi,whichhadbeendedicatedtohimbythepainter,totheNationalMu-seuminBelgrade.

    1935 On26September,PavleBeljanskiwasappointedcounselloroftheRoyalEmbassy

    inRome,on20October,heassumedhisduties;heauthorizedpainterJeftoPeritochooseandpurchasepiecesforhiscollection.

    1936 On31March,hewaspromotedtocounsellorofthe4thgroup,1stclassattheRoyal

    EmbassyinRome;hewasawardedtheRoyalOrderofSaintSava,3rdclass.

    1937 From10to24June,theExhibition of Contemporary Yugoslav ArtwasheldinRome,

    PavleBeljanskitookpartintheorganization(theexhibitionwasopenedbyministerGaleazzoCiano,theforewordinthecataloguewaswrittenbyVeljkoPetrovi);from25Septemberto11October,BeljanskiwasChargdAffairesintheRoyalEmbassyinRome;inRomehewasawardedtheOrderoftheSaintsMauriceandLazarus,3rdclass.

    1938 From1Augustto11September,heassumedthepostoftheChargdAffairesinRome

    again.

    1939 On23October,hewasawardedtheOrderofSaintSava,2ndclass;hewasawardedthe

    OrderoftheCrownofItaly.

    1940 On8May,PavleBeljanskiwaspromotedtocounsellorofthe3rdgroup,2ndclassin

    andtherepresentativeoftheMinisterofForeignAffairs.

    1944 On24SeptembersevenmembersofPavleBeljanskifamilywerekilledduringanair

    raidinSvilajnac:hisbrotherNikolawithwifeStefniaGorgonyi,histwosistersAnaAnkaIsakoviandAleksandraSandaJoksimovi,AleksandraschildrenDragomirandNadawithNinoRisti,Nadashusband.

    1945 On1March,hereturnedtodiplomacyhewasappointedcounsellorofthe3rdgroup,

    2ndclassandorganizedtheprotocoloftheMinistryofForeignAffairs;hisartcollec-tionwasondisplaytothepublicforthefirsttimeon27October;theCityMuseumandLibraryinSomborwereopenedwithThe Exhibition of 67 Works of Art From the Collection of Pavle Beljanski;thewriterVeljkoPetrovigaveaspeechattheopening;theexhibitioninSomborwasondisplayuntilMarch1952.

    1946 PavleBeljanskigavelecturesonprotocolattheDiplomaticSchool;SeptemberOc-

    tober:TheNationalMuseuminBelgradeorganizedanexhibitionentitledPainting and Sculpture of the Peoples of Yugoslavia in the 19th and 20th Century,whereeightpiecesfromBeljanskiscollectionbyP.Lubarda,M.Konjovi,M.elebonovi,M.MilunoviandS.Aralicawereexhibited;from1946to1948,theexhibitionappearedinZagreb,Ljubljana,Moscow,Leningrad,Prague,Warsaw,BratislavaandBudapest;hewasawardedthePolishGoldenCrossofMeritandtheOrderoftheStarofHon-ourofEthiopia.

    1947 On31March,hewaspromotedtoChiefofProtocolofthe3rdgroup,1stclassinthe

    MinistryofForeignAffairs;on30May,thedecisionwasmadetofoundtheMuseumofVojvodinaandtheGalleryofMaticaSrpska;on15September,hewasappointed

    1950 September:asoloexhibitionofworksbyMiaPopoviattheArtPavilioninBel-

    grade.

    1951 FebruaryMarch:nineartpiecesfromtheCollectionofPavleBeljanskiwereexhib-

    itedattheexhibitionentitledSeventy Paintings and Sculptures From 19201940 intheULUSGallery;PavleBeljanskinegotiatedtheexhibitionofthecollectioninSwit-zerland;from18Marchto1April:anexhibitionofworksbyMilanKonjovientitledPeople,ArtPavilion,Belgrade;from1Mayto1June:PetarLubardassoloexhibition,theULUSGallery,Belgrade.

    1952 On26Marchanexhibitionof68worksofartfromBeljanskisCollectionwasopened

    intheBelgradeCityMuseum,accompaniedbyaspeechbyZoraSimiMilovanovi;duetoinsufficientspace,onlyapartofthecollectionwasexhibited,andthedisplaywaschangedseveraltimesuntiltheendoftheexhibitionin1957sothatthepubliccouldseethecollectionasawhole;theCaryatidbyRistoStijovifromPavleBeljan-skisCollectionwasexhibitedatthe26th Biennale in Venice.

    1953 FromNovember1953toJanuary1954,artworksfromPavleBeljanskisCollectionwere

    ondisplayatanexhibitionentitledHalf a Century of Yugoslav Painting 19001950attheNationalMuseuminBelgrade.

    1954 On31May,PavleBeljanskiwasawardedtheOrderoftheYugoslavFlag,2ndclass,by

    theDecreeofthepresidentofFPRY,JosipBrozTito;hewasawardedtheOrderoftheHonourofAthensandtheOrderofthePhoenix;on1August,hewaspromotedtotheministerplenipotentiaryofthe3rdgroup.

    1955 On20June,hewasappointedmemberoftheCounciloftheBelgradeCityMuseum.

    1956 TheYugoslavtheaterfestivalSterijinopozorjewasfounded;thepermanentdisplay

    ofTheGalleryofMaticaSrpskawasopenedinabuildingoftheformerCommodi-tiesMarket.

    1957 On16April,PavleBeljanskiwaspromotedtotheministerplenipotentiaryofthe2nd

    group;inSeptember,La Grande IzawasexhibitedataretrospectiveexhibitionofVla-hoBukovac,organizedbyJAZUinZagreb;on5September,thelocationforthefuturegallerywasdeterminedintheCaraLazaraStreet,nexttothenewlyopenedGalleryofMaticaSrpska;on18November,theDonationContractwassigned,wherebyPavle
