HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED AT CALVARY CHAPEL? First: Present yourself to God (Romans 12:1) for confirmation that He has planted you in this fellowship. If so, then discover your gifts and God’s calling in your life. Second: Study to show yourself approved unto God (2 Timothy 2:15). As you grow in your relationship with God, let Him prepare you for effective service. Third: Be doers of the Word (James 1:22). Commit yourself to the work of Jesus Christ in this fellowship, and get involved as a yielded vessel to God’s guiding anywhere He directs.

My Worth is Not in What I Own By  Keith  Getty,  Kristyn  Getty,  and  Graham  Kendrick  ©  2014

My worth is not in what I own Not in the strength of flesh and bone But in the costly wounds of love At the cross

My worth is not in skill or name In win or lose, in pride or shame But in the blood of Christ that flowed At the cross

Refrain: I rejoice in my Redeemer Greatest Treasure, Wellspring of my soul I will trust in Him, no other.

My soul is satisfied in Him alone.

As summer flowers we fade and die Fame, youth and beauty hurry by But life eternal calls to us At the cross

I will not boast in wealth or might Or human wisdom's fleeting light But I will boast in knowing Christ At the cross

Refrain

Two wonders here that I confess My worth and my unworthiness My value fixed - my ransom paid At the cross

Brett SchaffnerInterVarsity Link MissionaryLatin America – Ecuador

InterVarsity is a well-known Evangelical Christian organization actively reaching out to university students on campuses throughout the United States and beyond. Our vision is to see ‘Students and faculty transformed, campuses renewed, and world changers developed.’ We do this by establishing diverse witnessing communities on campuses that add critical, spiritual content to higher education where students and faculty can hear the gospel of Jesus Christ, grow as disciples of Jesus, have a space for deep spiritual formation, and become a part of God’s global mission.

InterVarsity/USA is a small part of a much larger movement. It is only one out of 154 countries participating in the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students, worldwide. Each of these movements works to further the Kingdom by proclaiming the gospel and allowing students to investigate who Jesus for themselves on their campuses.

That’s where my role with InterVarsity begins. I am working for InterVarsity Link – and it does just that – it ‘links’ the movement in the

USA to the movements around the world by providing staff and resources that the US has in abundance, in comparison to the rest of the world. I will be working on college campuses in Quito, Ecuador beginning in August of 2015, pending full funding. It is there I will get to help serve God and live out my calling by training and encouraging students to reach out to their fellow students and family members.

My commitment to serve in Ecuador is for two years. Some of my specific roles while serving abroad will include intentionally discipling students who lead university groups on their campuses, providing pastoral leadership for university groups organizing themselves to be witnesses of the gospel of Jesus Christ on their campus, assisting the communications team by developing a unified website for the movement, as well as being available to teach at national events. I will be working with one to two university campuses in Quito, joining the local Staff Team of two dedicated workers.

It is such a blessing to be called to serve cross-culturally in God’s global mission – but I need your help. As with many missionaries, I need to raise up a strong prayer and financial support team to help send me. I am currently at 65% of my funding goal (as of June 2015) and am looking for an additional $1400 of monthly support. Would you prayerfully consider joining my support team on a monthly basis? a LINEAGE of GRACE by Francine Rivers

“This compilation of the five books in the best-selling A Lineage of Grace series shares the stories of the five

unlikely women who changed eternity. Tamar, betrayed by the men who controlled her future, she fought for her right to believe in a loving God. Rahab, a woman with a past to whom God gave a future. Ruth, who gave up everything, expecting nothing, and God honored her. Bathsheba, her beauty stirred the passion of a king, her pain moved the heart of God. Mary, all eternity had been waiting for this moment and she responded in simple obedience to God’s call. Each was faced with extraordinary —even scandalous— challenges, each took great personal risk to fulfill her calling, and each was destined to play a key role in the lineage of Jesus Christ.”

The reader must remember that this book is fiction, but it is based on scripture. Francine Rivers has the gift of engaging the reader immediately, so while this is a large book, it reads very quickly. Each book ends with a short “Bible Study” that is designed to help you seek the truth in God’s word.

Living Your Belief by Beverly Chong

Lord, help me to be a reflection of your precious love, in Jesus name, Amen.

I remember my Drama class in high school, and the occasional assignment of performing an Improvisation in front of the whole class. In those days, I was afraid of my own shadow, so you can imagine the heavy blanket of fear and total stress that would wrap me up in its grip. Makes you wonder, what on earth was I doing in a Drama class in the first place? At any rate, that Improvisation, an enactment of a scene that is done without spoken words, held a very hefty grade; a grade that sometimes meant you passed the semester or not. I remember one particular moment, when called upon to present mine, all I could do was to block out all awareness of my classmates and Instructor, and completely become that other person…that actor… and perform as if I were actually in the situation that I was presenting. Well, I fulfilled what I had to do, and did so quite well. However, during the enactment, my fear realized it could hear a pin drop…actually that pin crashed to the floor…, not to mention being aware of every eye intensely staring at me, which caused me to STOP way too soon! Needless to say, my instructor was speechless as to why I stopped when I did, and my grade reflected that disappointment.

This analogy is very similar to the presenting of our living beliefs in real time. Our beliefs must be just as sincere and believable to all who look upon us, as an Improvisation causes a belief in what is being presented. The huge difference, of course, is we aren’t acting for a grade in real time, at least I would hope not. We are to sincerely reflect, not act who Jesus is, and become all that He has done for us in our lives. When our heart and our spirit are filled with His presence, keeping our hearts yearning eyes upon Him, there is no pretense for others to witness. It will all be pure living proof of His indwelling Love and Spirit.

Jesus commanded us to go into the entire world and preach the gospel; preach about His great Love and the Salvation that He offers freely to all who would accept, and all too often our actions are what speak the loudest. Our testimony weighs very heavy in convincing the public eye, and because of that, it should be counted as a blessing to be used by God to reflect our beliefs in our Savior. Yes, we will often be called upon to voice our beliefs. But, if we cannot present what we believe, without acting, I feel it is all rubbish to even try to sound like a clanging cymbal. There is a saying…You are what you eat. Well, I would like to believe you are what you believe, by the word that you eat! And, I sure hope you can see what I believe, because my precious Savior is everything to me. Have a very “Reflective Presentation” kind of day.

Hello, my name is Austin, for the past year and a half I have been attending Calvary Chapel Bible College in Murrieta, California. This last Fall I had the opportunity to attend the teaching site in Malta, it was a brand new teaching site and the group which I was apart of were the guinea pig’s, so it was quite the adventure. The trip started in Turkey, and while there we visited many of the Biblical sites and some of the non-Biblical sites in Istanbul. The Biblical sites we visited were Ephesus, Smyrna; Laodicea, Pergamum, and Sardis (Five of the seven churches mentioned in Revelation chapter 2 and 3). In the midst of the trip we stayed in a Turkish beach Town called Kusadasi from which we took a 4 hour boat ride to Patmos, the island that the Apostle John was transferred to by Rome and received the Revelation from God. When we were through visiting the sites there, we went west to Greece and visited Athens where we saw Mars hill (Where Paul proclaimed the name of God to the Philosophers in Acts

17:22), as well as the Acropolis of Athens. Later in Greece, we visited the ancient city of Corinth as well as Acrocorinth. After we visited Greece we continued west to the island which Paul was shipwrecked on; Malta, where my group stayed for 2.5 months. Malta is mentioned in Acts 17:39; 18:1-10. There is really only one Biblical site in Malta, that is St. Thomas bay, this is where Paul shipwrecked, though the Roman Catholic church will claim that it was St. Paul’s bay. Why do we know that it was St. Thomas bay? Because Paul was shipwrecked by a reef, and there isn’t a reef near St. Paul’s bay, but there

is a reef on St. Thomas bay. The Bible also mentions he ended up on a sandy beach, and I can reassure you that

Malta is definitely not beach like at all, it’s a giant rock!

Calvary Chapel Bible College by Austin Lippert

This is the Blue lagoon, it is right off of the Maltese island of Camino, Malta has six islands, one is a rock that the British used in WWII to practice bombing, two are little islets right next to the main island; then there is Camino which is about a 30 minute ferry ride, if I remember correctly there are only six houses total on Camino and a really pretty resort for guests. Another main island is Gozo, and that is more rural than the main island of Malta — Gozo is about a 40 minute ferry ride from the main island.

Reflecting the Light of Jesus by Mary Jane Robinette

When we live by what we believe it is our daily purpose to reflect the light of Jesus. His joy can reach through us to others by the way we live our life as Christians. As a follower of Jesus Christ we are in Him and He is in us. We can look at ourselves in the mirror and see our physical appearance reflecting back at us. The mirror reveals our image on how we want to appear to others with hair, make up and clothes. Since we can’t see Jesus in our mirror then how do we know He is in us? We look for Jesus in our bible and when we find Him there, we can find Jesus in ourselves. Our spiritual reflection comes from having a daily relationship with Jesus Christ. Philippians 1:27-28 “Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel, and not frightened in anything by your opponents. This is a clear sign to them of their destruction, but of your salvation, and that from God. ” Living what we believe, sharing His joy, comes from daily Bible reading and Prayer. Even when faced with trials we can share enduring joy by staying in prayer. This past November my faith was tested when my son was facing death through the loss of blood. I kept constant vigil praying over his weakening body. My faith in God’s healing prevailed. When the moment I feared arrived and I thought his death was near, it was then my spiritual energy took over and I cried out in five, tear fed beseeching words, “God don’t take my son.” Over and over I cried these urgent words to God and He heard my prayer; my son lives. I believe by faith in God’s Word, “And whatever things you ask in prayer believing, you will receive.” Matthew 21:22. The stronger our belief the more likely our prayers will be in line with God’s will. He doesn’t give us our desires all the time, but our joy remains from knowing Jesus personally and from depending on His strength rather than our own. During this time God chose to place people before me to give me a focus to reflect His light. He gave me opportunities to offer prayer for others, and even the giving of a bible. Our faith in God shows us how to live what we believe in the midst of our adversities. God will use us to share His presence unexpectedly and we must be prepared to live what we believe in all circumstances. I live by faith in the Word of God and in the Power of Prayer. Jesus is our joy, our trust, our purpose in life.

Please join us on Saturday, August 8th from 8:00am – 5:00pm at Sand Harbor Group Area in Lake Tahoe. The baptism begins at 1:00pm. Each car will be charged $10.00. Do you want to know Jesus? Did you know you can take this time right now and invite Him to be your Lord and Savior, but most of all your best friend.

The first step to inviting Jesus into your heart is to admit you are a sinner and you desperately need him. The Bible tells us in Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” This means before we can come to know God we have to recognize we are a sinner.

Once we have recognized we are in need of a Savior the Bible tells us in Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” and in Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” That is what Easter is about! Did you know that?

Finally, the Bible tells us in Romans 10:13 “For whoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” and in Romans 10:9-10 “That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that god has raised Him for the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes to righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made to salvation.”

Pray this prayer right now, “”Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner, and I ask for Your forgiveness. I believe You died for my sins and rose from the dead. I turn from my sins and invite You to come into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow You as my Lord and Savior.

Women’s Retreatby Mary Jane Robinette

Our Women’s Retreat that DiAnn and the ministry teams had waiting for us blessed us with a spiritually filled weekend.  Our Worship team led us in song to welcome the presence of the Holy Spirit to this event. The ladies that did our teaching captured our hearts with how “HOPE” should be a major word in our daily vocabulary. We need to have a heart of hope in waiting for the Lord’s return; being fed daily by His Word, and seeking a daily filling of His Holy Spirit. Every part of this year's Women's Retreat showed how the heart of God, His love, His character came forth through DiAnn and all the ladies that worked so hard to make our 2015 Women's Retreat the most spiritual and uplifting event. Together we prayed and sang to welcome the Holy Spirit's presence, and He came. It is easy to say that DiAnn is everyone's best friend. She is blessed with the gifts of wisdom,

leadership, teaching, hospitality, to name a few. She portrays God's amazing love and oh how it shines from within her. Her leadership filled this event with special memories for each of us to carry home. You cannot help but see the love of Jesus Christ through her eyes. Without a doubt this godly woman submitted and let God be in control. She glorified Him in following what He put before her. We were all blessed to have DiAnn as a mentor, spiritual leader and teacher of God's word. We all felt the power of the Holy Spirit come down upon us and fill us to overflowing. Like DiAnn, I also felt privileged to be part of the Prayer Team, praying over what each woman wrote down revealing what she wanted to glean from the Retreat. It was so emotional and spiritual for all the women who prayed over them.  We were all blessed with an amazing time in our own ways. Thank you Father God for using DiAnn and our women’s ministry teams in faithful service to you. God truly walked before all of them.
