5th Sunday of Lent - March 13 Be Merciful as God is Merciful

The Lord is doing something new. (Isa 43) Being one with Christ is worth everything. (Phil 3) Parable of the woman caught in adultery. (John 8)

The theme of last Sunday’s parable of the prodigal son continues this Sunday, but with a woman who has been caught in the act of adultery. Instead of the prodigal son’s father, we have Jesus, who asks her: “Has no one con-

demned you?” She replies: “No one sir.” Jesus for-gives her: “Neither do I condemn you.” Jesus hears the woman’s confession and then absolves her: “Go your way, and from now on do not sin again.” By intervening, Jesus rescued the woman from stoning, lifted her up, and set her onto a new path. Lent presents us with the chance to look more deeply at our own lives. In the Rite of Reconcilia-tion, we, like the woman, receive counsel, absolu-tion, and a penance. The sacrament reveals Jesus offering us mercy and showing us a path forward that will avoid the consequences of sin that can rain down like stones upon us. --Deacon Dick Folger Next weeks readings . . .

Welcome to New Parishioners We are happy to welcome new Families to our Par-ish Community. If you have not yet registered as Parishioners, please call or come to the Parish Of-fice to meet us and give us your family information.

We welcome you to our church and offer these simple WOR-SHIP PRACTICES to help everyone enter fully, consciously, and actively in our liturgies. As We Gather….We should be quiet when we enter the church. All private prayer ceases when Mass begins and we join as one Body of Christ. All chatter or visiting at the church entry must cease while Mass is being celebrated.

Jesus you are my only true and real friend. You share all my sorrows

and take them upon yourself, knowing how to turn them to my good.

You listen to me kindly when I tell you my difficulties,

and you never fail to lighten them. Wherever I go I always find you;

you never leave me, and if I am obliged to go away,

I find you waiting for me. You are never weary of listening to me, and you never cease to do me good. I am sure of being loved if I love you. However watched I am, no one nobler

or more clever or even more holy can rob me of your friendship;

and death will only unite me to you. All the accidents of age or of fortune

will never detach you from me; on the contrary,

I shall never enjoy you more fully and you will never be so close to me as when everything goes against me.

You bear with my defects with tender patience; even my infidelities and ingratitude do not wound you in such a way

that you are not always ready to return to me when I call upon you.

(St. Claude la Colombière SJ)

Spanish Mass The 5 p.m. Spanish Mass will resume for the sea-son on April 24th. If you know a farmer who may have some Hispanic Migrant workers, please spread the word. Posters with details are available at the church if you wish to provide one.
