BackgroundIn 2000, Millennium Development goals (MDGs) were set by the United Nations. The Declaration of MDGs was endorsed and adopted by 189 countries. In order to make people’s life better, the eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) were built an agreement that all countries will take necessary actions to reduce poverty and hunger, to tackle ill-health, gender inequality, lack of education, lack of access to clean water and environmental degradation. After 15 years later, it is shown that world has significantly achieved targeted goals of MDGs. Like other countries, it is found that Bangladesh has met several targets of the MDGs like poverty reduction, attaining gender parity at primary and secondary education, under-five mortality rate reduction, containing HIV infection with access to antiretroviral drugs, children under five sleeping under insecticide treated bed nets, detection and cure rate of tuberculosis under directly observed treatment short course and others. But different reports shows that still Bangladesh faces major challenges of creating jobs, preserving ecology and ensuring nutrition in terms of achieving the Millennium

Development Goals (MDGs). It indicates Bangladesh still far from achieving goals of employment, nutrition, and environment.

But again, building on the successes of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), the Goals has been considered and included new areas such as economic inequality, innovation, climate change, sustainable consumption, peace and justice, among others. Now, across the world leaders are getting ready to adopt the new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which are essentially an agreed vision to put people and planet on a sustainable path by 2030. On 25 September 2015, the 193 countries of the UN General Assembly adopted the 2030 Development Agenda titled “Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”. These new 17 SDGs, also known as Global Goals, comprise of 169 targets and will guide policy and funding for the next 15 years. These targeted SDGs are universal, inclusive and a bold commitment to people and planet.
