FROM THE DESK OF OUR COLLEGE PRINCIPAL
Oval Update For some me now, as many of you realise, we have been trying to accumulate enough money to redo the oval at the Tarneit Campus. The forma on of an oval was indeed part of the building specifica ons but due to many years of drought, two unsuccessful a empts to reseed the ground and then the need to bring so many portables into the Tarneit Campus, we really could not jus fy the costs associated with con nually funding a empts that were doomed for failure. So we did get some quotes for synthe c ground cover and then began saving funds to eventually get the oval developed. A visit from local Member of Parliament Telmo Languiller, a le er from Labor Candidate for Tarneit Sarah Connolly and a passionate plea from College Captain Sarah Ador on the Australian Broadcas ng Corpora on show Q&A seems to have succeeded. I have received a le er from the Minister for Educa on the Honorable James Merlino to let me know that we are to receive $161,200 towards the oval upgrade and this amount along with the money we have set aside for the work means that we can go ahead with this important project much earlier than expected. Parent Opinion Survey Our school is conduc ng a survey to find out what parents think of our school. The Parent Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Educa on and Training that is conducted amongst a sample of randomly selected parents. It is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of parents’ percep ons of school climate, student behaviour and student engagement. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies. Approximately 30 per cent of parents will be invited to par cipate in this year’s survey. All responses to the survey are anonymous. This year the Parent Opinion Survey will be conducted from Monday 23rd July to Sunday 26th August. The survey will be conducted online, only takes 10‐15 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient me within the fieldwork period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. The online survey will be available in a range of languages other than English. These include: Arabic, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Hindi, Japanese, Somali, Turkish, Punjabi and Greek. The survey results will be reported back to the school at the end of September Chocolate Drive Thanks very much to the families from the Tarneit Campus who went to a great effort to sell chocolates. This fundraising ac vity really does bring in a lot of much needed funds and on the 20th of August the families from Derrimut Heath Campus will get a turn to take a box of chocolates to work or to have some treats for the family at home. Spellathon Hopefully your son or daughter has been sharing a commitment to perfect spelling, as, during this week, lots of spelling tests are happening in the Learning Spaces at Baden Powell College. Through this ac vity we hope that the money raised from the sponsorship graciously provided from family members, and friends, will support the oval beau fica on project that is part of the Oval Master Plan. When we find out who are our College spelling champions are we will enter them in the Wyndham Library Spelling Bee to be held on Thursday the 23rd of August. Use of Compass Thank you so much for those of you who are checking Compass each day. It is important as we are communica ng daily on Compass and you may very well miss some important informa on if you do not check in daily. Should you have forgo en how to log in or your login details please contact the office at school and the friendly ladies will assist you to sort out any problems. Performance We are now planning for the Annual College Concert that is to be held in September. The Concert for the stu‐ dents in Prep to Year 4 at the Tarneit Campus will be held on Tuesday the 11th of September, whereas the Con‐ cert for the students in Years 5‐9 will be held on Thursday the 13th of September. For Derrimut Heath all students from Prep to Year 6 will be performing on Wednesday the 12th of September. Each day there will be two concerts star ng at 5pm and then at 7pm with a theme of Friends4Life guiding the selec on of song and dance. The price for a cket remains at $5……. A bargain when you consider the amazing opportunity to see your li le Super Star performers in ac on!! Yours in Educa on, Looking Forward, Staying Ahead, ]âÄ|x `táÉÇ College Principal

WYNDHAM TECH SCHOOL OPENING
The Wyndham Tech School opening was held on the 25th of June. The Tech School is a facility with a lot of high tech equipment including drones, AI robo cs, 3D Printers and Virtual Reality Goggles. The day was an amazing experience, students from Baden Powell College, Good News Labyrinth, Thomas Carr College and Wyndham Central College had spent the morning explaining the equipment to the Minister of Educa on and Other Candidates. The opening ran successfully and students were privileged to have been welcomed to the Wyndham Tech School. 7‐9 students will get an opportunity to learn there in semester two. SHOULD BEAUTY PRODUCTS BE TESTED ON ANIMALS? By MILLIE THOMAS
I strongly believe that beauty products should NOT be tested on poor defenceless animals.
Some of the reasons that I think this is because animals don't have the voice like humans to say “don’t test me !” etc. Lots of animals are used for this and also many get killed. Firstly, animals
