FROM THE DESK OF OUR COLLEGE PRINCIPAL Chocolate Drive Thank you very much for taking a box of chocolates to sell if you are at the Tarneit Campus. This is in fact a major fundraising ac vity for the Parents & Friends for the year. It enables us to maintain valued resources that contribute to fabulous learning in literacy and numeracy. So, please do your best to sell all the contents in the box and return the money to school by the 15th of June. If it is not possible to sell all the chocolates then send money and chocolates back as soon as possible as we o en have families looking to sell more than one box. The families at Derrimut Heath will get the opportunity to help as out with selling chocolates in Term 3. Huge thanks to the Parents & Friends for all their hard work organising and distribu ng, along with the members of the Earlyact School Community, boxes to all families. Annual Concert This is a reminder that we have our Annual Concert happening again in the week beginning the 10th of September. The concerts will happen as per last year with two sessions per night, an early session in the late a ernoon and a later evening session. More details will follow early in Term 3. Values Program The next value that we discuss is that of Feelings and this includes defining emo ons, sensi vity and pa ence. Most of the problems that we deal with at school start with someone either inten onally or uninten onally hur ng the feelings of another person. We con nue to work with your children to develop an understanding and apprecia on of their personal feelings and their feelings towards others. Our slogan for this value is “Dealing with Feelings”. We have a very successful Peer Media on Program where students trained as mediators are out in the playground and do a fine job helping to resolve situa ons that o en start with hurt feelings, and then escalate into unsa sfactory responses to these feelings. Some mes young children have trouble explaining why they feel sad or angry and that quiet talk with a trusted adult is needed to sort out situa ons. Many mes this happens at home and I ask that know if your child is feeling unhappy and disconnected to school please let us know and we can help rec fy this without too much trouble. Student Report/Parent Teacher Interviews On Thursday the 21st of June you will receive your child’s midyear report on Compass. If you do not have Compass logon details please contact the office ladies and they help you get organised. We will be having Parent Teacher Interviews in the last week of Term 2 on Monday the 25th June. Baden Powell College Supports the Biggest Morning Tea

Let’s get together for a cancer-free future On Thursday 24th May Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea was held at the Derrimut Heath and Tarneit Campus. We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone for suppor ng the Big‐gest Morning Tea and helping raise much needed funds for the Cancer Council. Thank you for all of the wonderful dona ons. You are so very kind and generous. This year staff and students of Baden Powell College have raised a truly amazing amount of $1285.30 which is absolutely fantas c. The Cancer Council will be so very grateful to our Col‐lege for the amount we raised and will put this money to good use in trying to find a cure for this horrible disease. DIVISION CROSS COUNTRY DAY On Wednesday the 30th of May the Wyndham Division Cross Country was held at Presidents Park and the students that par cipated did a great job. There were many schools that par ci-pated on the day and the compe on was tough at this level. It was a lovely day to run, the 9/10 year olds ran a 2k course, while the 11/12 and 13 year olds ran 3k. GRADE 3/4 HOOPTIME BASKETBALL DAY

On Thursday the 31st of May a selected number of Tarneit and Derrimut Grade 3/4 student basketball teams travelled down to the newly renovated Werribee Basketball Centre to compete in a tournament against numerous schools from the Truganina/Tarneit District. They all played 4 pool games and showed great sportsmanship and enthusiasm during the day. It was a great team effort by all our teams winning plenty of games and having heaps of fun learning about the game. Thank-you to Mr Fugazzo o, Mr Geisler, Mr Murray, Mr Zammit and selected year 5-9 students for coaching on the day and all the people who helped train the students prior to the event. CODING SHOULD BE LEARNT AT SCHOOLS PUBLISHED EXPOSITION WRITING

Coding is a form of language used to create games, apps, and web pages. Coding isn’t like L.O.T.E it is a language but it isn’t a human language humans do not use it to communicate to other humans, but people all over the world use programming to communicate to computers everywhere. Coding is done all over the world for fun or for jobs. Coding was only introduced to schools in 2012 and it has developed more since then so if we can teach newer codes and just like art kids don’t necessarily have to become programmers! Coding has a posi ve impact to learning for example it teaches problem solving because that is a key part of being a programer, the three things that will be men oned today are: Why coding should be done at least once a week, Programming Language that is easy to learn at any age, and That kids LOVE crea vity.

Coding Should Be Done At Least Once A Week Firstly, Coding puts a huge posi ve impact on maths as it basically is maths with problem solving, number, numerators, and MUCH more. Coding also promotes the intelligence on foreign languages because it is a language and if they learn it they have basically learnt a new language. Coding helps develop skills for the future as it teaches you to instead of rage try to solve the problem. It also impacts STEM as it is big with projects and learning. It also houses Wri ng and Reading in it. Over 25,000,000(25 million) people use a programming language called Scratch, Over 34,466,213 people get Python as a program-ming language per year, and this is a chart on how many people use HTML,

The Language Is Easy To Learn At All Ages It may look temp ng to start with a SUPER HARDCORE game but trust me even the world's best programmers started with a weird and cringy game so don’t be embarrassed of a bad start. Start by looking up games like scratch to come up with an idea then simplify it so that you can learn the code. It is easy as long as it is simplified and then slowly becoming more challenging and soon enough you’ll be making amazing games like it was the easiest thing ever! and if you want to help your teachers make some classroom tool games!! Even if coding starts off hard it will gradually become easier. Many starters may say coding is hard only because they are new and haven’t learnt code.

Kids Love Crea vity Kids love to work with crea vity and coding lets you do whatever you want you can make a game about whatever and even make your own characters! All it takes is a li le bit of crea vity and a small knowledge of code and you can create a wonderful game such as a pla ormer or even crea ng the gravity engine for the pla ormer(really hard). Coding helps children both develop skills, make new skills, and use crea vity in learning and crea ng. Although many programmers would say that they aren’t the crea ve type the use problem solving and create games everyday and crea ng games comes from an idea which then builds up and creates the game and to create the idea you must have crea ve skills.onclusion

Све што је потре но је мало креативности и мали познавање кода и можете направити диван игру као што је платформер или чак стварање гравитациони мотор за платформер (тешко). Кодирање помаже деци и развијају вештине, да нове вештине, а користе креативност у учењу и стварању. Иако су многи програмери ће рећи да они нису креативни тип решавање про лема употре а и створити гамес еверидаи и стварање игре долази из идеје које потом изграђује и ствара игру и да створе идеју, морате имати креативне спосо ности. A wonderful way to relax away from the children and at the same me meet families from our community whilst raising money for our students resources, college and

campus needs. It doesn't have to end there, we have chosen the early session so that if you like we can enjoy a nice dinner together at one of the plaza restaurants a erwards. We would love you to join us and would like to hear from you now as we need to know final numbers before 26th June.
