A message from the Principal
As Week 3 draws to a close it has been an extremely busy week and the week isn’t over yet. Despite the wind, rain and cold, it was terrific to see so many brave the elements to support the Relay for Life last Saturday. There were a few sore legs on Monday morning following the weekend event as some people covered a lot of kilometres throughout the day and night event. On Tuesday, we continued with the theme to raise money for Cancer research by hosting a Dress purple day.
Kindergarten orientation began this week, with our 2020 cohort attending their first official visit to big school. Kindergarten orientation continues next Wednesday and the following Wednesday and includes time in the classrooms as well as meeting buddies and enjoying some playground time.
Our teaching staff was involved in full day team meetings this week to collaboratively plan, program and assess student learning. John Hattie cites the number one positive influence on student learning as “collective teacher efficacy” or collaborative conversations based on evidence. Full day team meetings complement our “triad” approach to teacher observations of practice where colleagues provide feedback on one another in the classroom, with the aim of identifying and seeking feedback on areas of strength and further development.
A message from the Principal (continued)
Today our Year 6 students attended A Taste of High School, as part of the transition process to high school. All students were invited to attend, regardless of whether they are attending AHS next year, to participate in a high school experience. Students were also able to experience ASTRA, Albury High School’s annual showcase. For other students and parents, ASTRA is open to the AHS community from 5:00pm – 7:00pm on Thursday 31 October.
School Swim Scheme expressions of interest were sent home this week for students in Years 2-6. Swim scheme is primarily for students in Year 2 and 3, however, students in Years 4 to 6 are welcome to apply if they are not yet able to confidently swim a distance of 25 metres. Students wishing to participate in swim scheme need to return their note to their teacher by Wednesday 6 November (Week 4).
Next Thursday, Albury PS will be hosting the annual Proud and Deadly awards to recognise the achievements of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. The awards ceremony begins at 10:30am and will conclude with a barbeque. Invitations for this important event have been sent home this week.
Presentation days 2019: This year, we have changed the Presentation days as we will not fit into the Albury High School hall.
Years 3 – 6: Wednesday 11 December. The assembly will start at 10:45am, Albury High School hall.
Kindergarten: Will have their own assembly on Thursday 12 December in the Albury Public School Hall from 10:00am – 11:00am
Year 1 and 2: Will have their own assembly on Thursday 12 December in the Albury Public School Hall from 12:00pm – 1:00pm
All NSW Department of Education schools are on Inclosed Lands. The legislation is clear about principals restricting vehicles, including those belonging to parents/carers, from entering schools and staff car parks, following a number of deaths and near misses in schools around the state. It is very disappointing to have to report that a small number of parents/carers who access the OOSH service, are still ignoring the repeated requests from both the school and OOSH to not use the staff car park. Please refrain from entering the staff carpark (either on foot or in a vehicle) to drop off or pick up students BEFORE 4:30pm each day during the school term.
Please assist us to keep all students safe. When you are next in town, head to MAMA to check out the artworks of our talented students in 5/6LS in the Nginhagu 'belonging to this place' exhibition! Nginhagu is the culmination of the 'HOME' Aboriginal language and art program, a collaboration between five local primary schools, the NSW Department of Education, MAMA and the Art Gallery of NSW. Well done 5/6LS and Mrs Power!
Quote of the week: “At the end of the day, the most overwhelming
key to a child’s success is the positive involvement of parents”.

ROAD SAFETY
The roads surrounding the school are very busy and this is
certainly evident before school and after school. Unfortunately
there have been some very unsafe practices exhibited by
parents collecting their children.
** PLEASE do not double park and let your children out of the car
** PLEASE do not park on the other side of the road and call your children across
the road.
** PLEASE do not park in the bus zones
** PLEASE set a great example to your children by crossing with the green lights
at traffic lights, if you need to cross the road.
Parking rangers will be around our school at some peak times.
Grandparents’ Day
Grandparents’ day
On October 25 Albury Public School held grandparents day from
12:00pm to 1:00pm. We all had a very good hour playing different
types of old games. Some of these games include:
Bocce
Quoits
Dominoes
Marbles
Paddocks
And many more. We all really enjoyed playing fun games with our
grandparents. I did not have a grandparent there but I saw a lot of
other people having a great time. I really enjoyed playing with my friends and my friends’
grandparents.
I think grandparents’ day is a great way to see your grandparents if you don’t get to see them
much because they live somewhere else. Also they get to see their grandchildren’s school
Thank you to all the teachers for setting this up for Albury Public School. We all had a really good
time playing the games provided for us.
From Lucas Williams
***********************************
Albury Public School had a very important middle session on the 25 October, Grandparents’ Day.
Grandparents’ Day is held once every year and has been going for a long time.
Our school had lots of old games all around the school for students’ and their grandparents to
play. Some of these games are…
Bocce
Quoits
Dominoes
Marbles
Croquet
Paddocks
And more. The teachers did a really good job to set up and get ready for our elderly visitors.
My pop came to visit me and we had a great time playing Connect Four, Croquet and I even
drew a portrait of him. He only stayed for about ten minutes because he had to visit my siblings
and get back to his farm.
I think grandparents’ day is a great opportunity for the grandparents to meet other
grandparents, see the school and most of all spend time with their grandchildren.
