I had to look within

myself to find qualities that I

thought had been long buried

when I was a 19 year old student.

I had to be determined, assertive

and persevering. I had to maintain

a focus that I did not believe I was

capable of and these traits have

carried over to my current role as

LAGCC student.

Students Educational Goals Page

During research projects in my

CEP class, I have come across a

career that would suit my skill set.

This career [is] Industrial

Organizational Psychologist.

In this day where workplace

violence is on the rise, I believethat a career in this field would

allow me to play my part in

curbing this disturbing trend in our

society.

8/13/2019 Advising Through ePortfolios - A Giant Leap Towards Student Success

13/17

What kinds of conversations could you have about

transfer with this student?

Students EducationGoals Page

I highly depend on financial aid,

and I was afraid of how I was

going to pay for college. When I

entered LaGuardia and was

accepted into theAccelerated

Studies in Associate Programs

(ASAP), college became a reality.

My biggest barrier is support.

Being the first one in my family to

go to college is difficult. My family

expects a lot from me and they do

not know how the college path in

the United States works.

About Me Page

I want to work with urban-lower

class-disenfranchised minority

children and teenagers in an

educational setting to provide

them with the support and

resources that I did not have in

school as a child.

This is why I am majoring in

Language (Spanish and

Portuguese) & Latin American

Studies to better understand the

Latino community in the US.
http://www.lagcc.cuny.edu/asap/http://www.lagcc.cuny.edu/asap/http://www.lagcc.cuny.edu/asap/http://www.lagcc.cuny.edu/asap/http://www.lagcc.cuny.edu/asap/http://www.lagcc.cuny.edu/asap/

8/13/2019 Advising Through ePortfolios - A Giant Leap Towards Student Success

14/17

What kinds of conversations could you have about

transfer with this student?

I would like to pursue a Masters

in Journalism and work as acorrespondent in Latin America

or as a US diplomat. Why do I

aspire to fulfill these goals?

I am a renaissance man. I have apassion to learn the arts and

sciences, and through them

learn about my role in society

and give back to my community.

If there were no barriers, I would

without a doubt attend

Middlebury College.

I would experience life on

campus and pursue a Bachelors

degree in Latin American

Studies and Spanish and

Portuguese.

I would spend an academic year

abroad in Brazil and learn about

the language, culture, literature,

and arts.
http://www.middlebury.edu/http://www.middlebury.edu/

8/13/2019 Advising Through ePortfolios - A Giant Leap Towards Student Success

15/17

Overview of Seminar

It is a newly formed seminar

Year-long (Fall and Spring)

Co-led by faculty and staff

First to integrate faculty andstaff

The Participants

2013 - 2014 Cohort: 19 Facultyand Staff

Graduate of other ePortfolio-based seminars

Full-time and Part-time

Seminar Objectives - Click Here
http://localhost/var/www/apps/conversion/tmp/scratch_3/Seminar%20Objectives.dochttp://localhost/var/www/apps/conversion/tmp/scratch_3/Seminar%20Objectives.doc

8/13/2019 Advising Through ePortfolios - A Giant Leap Towards Student Success

16/17

Seminar Topics

ePortfolio for Academic, transfer, and career Advisement

Types of Advisement Motivational Interviewing Developing/Using an Advisement

Syllabus

Developing/Using an EducationalPlan

Faculty View: Video - SeminarParticipant - Click Here
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kHZwIccqReQhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kHZwIccqReQhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kHZwIccqReQ

8/13/2019 Advising Through ePortfolios - A Giant Leap Towards Student Success

17/17

rbhika@lagcc.cuny.edu

mdelrosario@lagcc.cuny.edu

bparson@lagcc.cuny.edu

dinsalaco-egan@lagcc.cuny.edu
