4 Common Signs Your Car Needs Brake Repairs
Apart from the tyres, the brakes are the most important safety feature of
your car. They are the mechanism responsible for stopping your
vehicle, therefore, allowing you to avoid accidents and collisions.
So if your car’s braking system is acting up, you shouldn’t waste any
more time. You must get brake repairs immediately.
There are tell-tale signs that will help you determine if it’s time
to have your car’s brake repaired or replaced. Here are some of them.
1. Worn out brake padsThe brake pads are basically what stop the tyres from moving. If they
are showing signs of advanced wear and tear,
they can affect the performance of your car’s braking system. Ideally,
the brake pads should be at least 0.6 centimetres thick. If they fall bellow
half a centimetre, they should be replaced ASAP.
Replacing the brake pads is simple car work, but if you don’t know how
or you simply want to make sure that it will be done properly, you should
take your car to the nearest auto shop.
2. The feeling of your car pulling to the left/right when braking
If it seems like your car is veering to the left or right when braking, then
you should get auto repairs immediately.
While some may think that this problem is caused by the steering wheel, it is actually related to the car’s braking system. More often
than not,
when your car is pulling to the sides, it is very likely that you have a
collapsed brake hose, a stuck caliper, or uneven brake pads.
3. Your car takes longer than normal to stop
Do you have to exert all your strength when stepping on the brake pedal just to make sure your car will
stop? If it is taking longer
than usual for your car to stop completely, then there’s something
wrong with your brakes that must be taken care of immediately.
4. Squeals, screeches, and high-pitched noises when braking
If you hear a grinding or squealing sound from your tyres or somewhere underneath your vehicle, it’s time to
get brake repairs. One reason for these high-pitched noises is a worn-
out brake pad.
The brake pad is so damaged that the metal of the caliper is grinding
against the metal of the rotors. If left as is, it can cause serious problems
to your vehicle.
Always remember that it is unsafe to drive a car with a problematic braking system. If your car is showing any of
the signs discussed above, you should pay your trusted brake repair shop a
visit immediately.
