What’s this all about?Many waterfalls, mountains and volcanoes can be sensational, natural sights, but the seven natural wonders of the world offer beauty beyond the normal.

People have long flocked to the different corners of the world to view the natural wonders of the world, but what makes them so beautiful, what are they and what is the best time to visit them?

Aurora BorealisAurora Borealis, often referred to as the Northern Lights, is a light phenomenon in the sky that rarely occurs and requires certain conditions to appear.

This natural wonder is a light show caused by the collision of solar wind and magnetospheric charged particles at altitudes of above 80km.

Viewing Aurora Borealis can be tricky though. Winter in the north, particularly in Scandinavia, is a good time to see the lights, with long periods of darkness and the increased frequency of clear nights proving the best conditions.

Victoria FallsVictoria Falls is an awe-inspiring natural wonder on the Zambezi River at the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe.

It is best to avoid seeing the wonder during February and May, which is the river’s annual flood season and the falls are often shrouded with mist.

Paricutin volcanoParicutin, known as the Volcano in a Cornfield, is unique in that its evolution, creation and extinction were all witnessed and observed by Mexican locals and experts.

The sudden growth of the Paricutin volcano was discovered in 1943 when an Indian farmer discovered a hot mound of soil in his cornfield in the Mexican state of Michoacan.

Great Barrier ReefThe Great Barrier Reef is the world’s largest coral reef system and located in the Coral Sea, off the coast of Queensland, Australia.

To maximise your experience, snorkelling and scuba diving provide close up views of fish, coral and marine life, whilst a helicopter tour provides incomparable aerial views of the Great Barrier Reef.

The tropical weather of Australia means that anytime of the year is great to visit this wonder, with its regular accessibility making it a hugely popular attraction.

Harbor of Rio de JaneiroAlso known as Guanabara Bay, the Harbor of Rio De Janeiro was created by the Atlantic Ocean as waves eroded softer rocks and sand of the bay.

Beautiful at day or night, the bay is a sensational experience at any time in Brazil with the gorgeous granite mountains a particular feature of interest.

Grand Canyon

Located entirely in northern Arizona of the United States, the Grand Canyon is one of the most famous holiday and tourist destinations in the world.

The Grand Canyon is a massive gorge created courtesy of erosion from the Colorado River which exposed almost two million years of Earth’s geological history across 277 miles of land.
