What is MXF?

MXF, short for Material Exchange Format, is a container format for professional digital video and audio media defined by a set of SMPTE standards. It has been designed with full time-code and metadata support to reduce the problems with non professional formats. With its high quality, MXF format is widely used by many high end camcorders like Sony XDCAM, Canon XF, Panasonic P2, and so on.
