TPACK for K12 Classrooms

Integrating technology is not about technology – it is primarily about content and effective instructional practices. Technology involves the tools with which we deliver content and implement practices in better ways. Its focus must be on curriculum and learning. Integration is defined not by theamount or type of technology used, but by how and why it is used. (p. 8)

Critical thinking includes careful comparison of ideas. Facts must be organized and documents

Base content on standard curriculum:4.06 Evaluate the effectiveness of civil rights and social movements throughout United States' history that reflect the struggle for equality and constitutional rights for all citizens.

Perspective taking and historical thinking is appropriate for this content.

Best practices dependent on content:

Inquiry based learning: generate a question; What would be the differences in a diary written by a slave owner and a slave in the year 1860?Compare historical fiction with fact based materials to answer the research question. Read, listen, view primary sources. Keep a Learning Log to record notes. Enter personal reflections. This is generative learning strategy that analyzes information, compares information in a variety of formats. Thinking processes for perspective taking and historical thinking.
