Classroom environment – Lacks • Student centered teaching

• Too many events during school time and only a group of students are permitted

• Competent teachers in subjects like English, Tamil.

• Time for extra-curricular activities.

• Laboratory facilities, Instruments, Text books

• Syllabus and content in text books, including Tamil and history subjects

• Not enough if importance to Value, Emotional and Moral education

• Focus on grade 6 to 8

Recommendations

• Student centered learning

• Utilize resources at school after school hours for skill education

• Involve parents in class room activities in rotational manner

• Strengthen Primary education and Secondary education to prepare students to face the future. – Need a thorough study on required skills for

employment and survival in provincial and Sri Lankan context.

• Teacher assessments, Monitoring and Rewarding for teachers

• On demand Short training

• Compulsory long training on teaching methodologies to new teachers after every 3 years of service

• Strengthen the role of ISA

• Strengthen year 9 provincial level examination: Test various skills of students, (not only the writing skill).

• Year 5 scholarship examination should be conducted for the exact purpose.

• Establishing an examination unit under the provincial education
