Chapter IIntroduction of The Study

Bronze (2011) said reading is not only about how to pronounce and to know the meaning of words, but also how the readers comprehend the idea of the writer in written form.

Next

Pratiwi (2013) stated that teaching reading is not an easy task. For example, for us in Indonesia, English is a foreign language.

In addition Slavin (2008) said that in Team Assisted Individualization method (T-A-I), the students will be assistant or will guide individual friend.

Why the Researcher Do this Research? The researcher definitely realize that reading is

one of the learning ways for students to enrich her ability and knowledge to teach reading comprehension.

Related Study

Husnun (2013) said T-A-I method has been proven to be good implementation in learning Reading Compression.

Statement of the Problem

Statement of the problem of this research is: Is there any significant difference in reading

comprehension between those who are taught using T-A-I method and those who are taught using conventional method?

Page 10: TAI presentation, shanty shines

Scope and Limitation

The researcher will limit this study on grade XI of Adventist Senior High School Darma Putra, Bekasi. They will be divided into groups, where the researcher will use T-A-I method to enhance students’ Reading comprehension.

The Hypothesis

This study uses of the following hypothesis : Ho: There is no significant difference in reading

comprehension between students who are taught using in T-A-I method and students who are taught using conventional method to enhance students’ Reading comprehension.

Ha: There is significant difference in Reading comprehension between students who are taught using in T-A-I method and students who are taught using conventional method to enhance students’ Reading comprehension.

Significance of The Study

The writer hopes the result of the study is expected to help the followings:

Teachers : become skillful teachers in teaching reading comprehension through cooperative learning in T-A-I method.

Students: This research is expected to help the students in learning reading comprehension. It is also expected to give more motivation to learn English, to give assumption that reading english is interesting, and to reborn their self confidence so that they can improve their reading comprehension.

Reading Comprehension

Hornby in Hartono (2008) stated that reading is a complex activity that involves both perception and thought.

Chapter IIIResearch Method

This study will use two groups and will use pre-test and post-test design, where one group will be given treatment the other group is not given any treatment. This is done to distinguish the two classes in improving reading comprehension between the experimental groups and control groups.

Population and Sample

The students from SMA Advent Darma Putra, Bekasi, with the total students 60 students.

The samples that were used in this research are taken randomly.

Instrument of Research The instruments of this research is the reading

comprehension test for pre-test and post-test. The pre-test was designed to measure the ability of the students in reading comprehension before applying the T-A-I method.

The Reading Comprehension test is multiple-choice question type taken from the TOEIC test with a total number of 60 questions.

Variable Independent Variable : It is usually

symbolized by “X”. In this research, independent variable is the use of Team Assisted Individualization method.

Dependent Variable : It is symbolized by “Y”. Dependent Variable in this research is the enhancement of students’ Reading Comprehension.

Instrument Research

The instruments of this research are Reading Comprehension test for pre-test and post-test. The pre-test was designed to measure the ability of the students in Reading listening comprehension before applying the T-A-I technique. The post-test was designed to see the result of the study after applying the T-A-I technique. The Reading Comprehension test is multiple-choice questions taken from TOEIC test with a total number of 60 questions.

Giving Treatments

The researcher will divide the students in groups into 4 or 5 and each groups have to choose a leader. The task of the leader is to present the discussion of the group.

The researcher will give reading text to the students. The researcher will ask the students to discuss about the text. The researcher will give some instructions to the groups about

what they will do with the reading text. The researcher will ask the leader to present the result of the

discussion. The researcher ask the students to do the exercise test based on

the reading text by individually The students will gather again with their group and discuss about

that exercise test and help each other to solve the problem in the exercise test.
