INTRODUCTIONIn this PowerPoint we will be discussing:• How existing trailers have inspired us• Any theorists that may be evident • How our research has impacted our planning
INSPIRATION: PLOTTHE GALLOWS (2015):
Similarities: • Set in a school• Psychological • Teenagers• “Hand-held”/”Found-footage” sub-genre of horror
Differences:• What we wont take from the trailer however, is that it
reveals too much of the plot – links back to our Prezi on ‘The Do’s and Dont’s of Horror Trailers’.
INSPIRATION: THEMESTHE WOMAN IN BLACK (2012):
Similarities: • Ghosts haunting the characters • Revenge
Differences:• Instead of a woman being the ghost we will use a
teenager to make it more relatable for our target audience.
INSPIRATION: EDITINGThe Conjuring (2013)
Similarities: • Jump Cuts• Fades
Differences:• Night-vision
INSPIRATION: MISE EN SCENEPROM NIGHT (1980) & CARRIE (2013):
Similarities: • Use of a school• Low-key lighting • Minimal use of props• Costumes that reflect the time period (casual,
suburban clothing)
Differences:• We will solely set our trailer within a school, showing
the viewers different locations within the school rather than different locations altogether (e.g. parks and houses etc.)
THEORIESTodorov’s Narrative Theory• Elements of all 3:
• State of equilibrium• Recognition of
disruption• Middle of disruption
Propp’s Character Types• A group of
“Princesses”• A villain
Levi Strauss• Teenagers vs.
Supernatural
INFLUENCE FROM OUR RESEARCH
Horror Timeline
Analysis of trailers
Horror Trailers: The Dos and Don’ts
Horror Questionnaire
OUR IDEA• Students know of a rumoured spirit that haunts the school around Halloween, and decide
to stay behind after school, to find out more about this “ghost”• Thinking it is a hoax, they jokingly call the spirit, and begin to ask questions.• After calling the spirit over a couple of days, they find out that the spirit is actually real,
by asking the question “Will someone die this Halloween?”• Then begins the disruption, as the spirit starts to haunt the students
Ways in which the spirit will be present:• Lights flickering/ off and on (Lights Out)• Doors slamming• Objects falling• Use of Sound• Dragging• Clap and basement scene (The Conjuring)
